This report documents the medical record abstraction form and guidelines for appropriateness of hysterectomy used in the HMO Quality of Care Consortium study of this procedure. The abstraction form was designed to follow the format of a medical record so that abstraction would be both accurate and efficient. For each item or group of items, the section of the medical record that was to serve as th.....
There has been an exponential growth in the number of techniques for
measuring characteristics of the family. Specifically, the first edition covered
a thirty-year period and included abstracts of 319 measures. But the second
edition, which adds abstracts of instruments published in just a ten-year span,
contains 494 additional measures, or a total of 813. Because the number of
instruments has more than doubled, it was not possible for the two of us alone
to search the hundreds of journals in which these measures appear and to abstract
all 494 instruments.

Astronauts aboard the ISS spend a great deal of their time performing complex procedures. This often involves having one crew member reading the procedure aloud, while while the other crew member performs the task, an extremely expensive use of astronaut time.
Oracle object technology is a layer of abstraction built on Oracle relational
technology. New object types can be created from any built-in database types and
any previously created object types, object references, and collection types.
Metadata for user-defined types is stored in a schema that is available to SQL,
PL/SQL, Java, and other published interfaces
The imperative programming paradigm is the subject of Chapter 12. This chapter presents the following content: What makes a language imperative? Procedural abstraction, expressions and assignment, library support for data structures.
This procedure suggests to: Calculating for ship’s structure that is not recommended by Viet Nam Rules for Ship Building and...
Abstract In this paper we demonstrate how Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals can be used to obtain exponential bounds for the solutions of time-invariant linear delay systems. Keywords: time delay system, exponential estimate, Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional.
The objective of this note is to describe a systematic procedure of constructing quadratic Lyapunov functionals for (exponentially) stable linear delay systems in order to obtain exponential estimates for their solutions.
This paper describes the challenges of decentralisation and privatisation of rural services from the perspective of communication strategy development. The wave of decentralisation and privatisation in rural services worldwide creates challenges for rural communities, service providers and local governments. Local organisations – both in government and civil society – are confronted with rules and procedures that are unprecedented. The new roles require significant changes in attitudes, skills, and especially a new level of accountability. ...

Reflections on the theory of “silver bullet” octreotide tracers: implications for ligand-receptor interactions in the age of peptides, heterodimers, receptor mosaics, truncated receptors, and multifractal analysis
Abstract The classical attitude of Nuclear Medicine practitioners on matters of peptide-receptor interactions has maintained an intrinsic monogamic character since many years.
Since the first Digital Forensic Research Workshop (DFRWS) in 2001 [Pal01], the need for a stan-
dard framework has been understood, yet there has been little progress on one that is generally
accepted. A framework for digital forensics needs to be flexible enough so that it can support future
technologies and different types of incidents. Therefore, it needs to be simple and abstract. On the
other hand, if it is too simple and abstract then it is difficult to create tool requirements and test
procedures for each phase....

Epidural cement leakage through pedicle violation after balloon kyphoplasty causing paraparesis in osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures - a report of two cases
Si-Young Park1, Hitesh N Modi2*, Seung-Woo Suh2, Jae-Young Hong1, Won Noh2, Jae-Hyuk Yang1
Abstract Kyphoplasty is advantageous over vertebroplasty in terms of better kyphosis correction and diminished risk of cement extravasations.

Perioperative safety of two-team simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty in the obese patient
Benjamin C Taylor*1, Craig Dimitris1, John G Mowbray1, Steven T Gaines2 and Robert N Steensen2
Abstract Background: Although the rates of perioperative morbidity and mortality with simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty remain a concern, multiple studies have shown the procedure to be safe in selected patient populations.

Abstract Background. Medical termination of pregnancy can be successfully performed with a combination of mifepristone (RU 486) and a prostaglandin analogue. We conducted a prospective, randomized trial to compare oral with vaginal administration of the prostaglandin E1 analogue misoprostol for first-trimester abortion in women treated initially with mifepristone. Methods. The study population consisted of 270 women seeking abortion within 63 days after the onset of amenorrhea. The dose of mifepristone was 600 mg, and the dose of misoprostol was 800 mg.
The information is collected from these sources by either active collection
or passive reporting. Active collection involves registry personnel actually vis-
iting the different sources and abstracting the data on special forms. This is
the usual method in registries in developing countries. Passive reporting
involves health-care workers completing the notification forms developed
and distributed by the registry, or sending copies of discharge abstracts to
the registry. A mixture of both procedures, with an emphasis on the latter,
is followed in most registries in developed countries.
This paper describes an implemented parser-interpreter which is intended as an abstract formal model of part of the process of sentence comprehension. It is illustrated here for Phrase Structure Grammars with a translation into a familiar type of logical form, although the general principles are intended to apply to any grammatical theory sharing certain basic assumptions, which are discussed in the paper.
Substantial efforts have been made in order to cope with disjunctions in constraint based grammar formalisms (e.g. [Kasper, 1987; Maxwell and Kaplan, 1991; DSrre and Eisele, 1990].). This paper describes the roles of disjunctions and inheritance in the use of feature structures and their formal semantics. With the notion of contexts we abstract from the graph structure of feature structures and properly define the search space of alternatives.
Functions represent the key element of procedural abstraction in any language. An understanding of the semantics of function definition and call is central to any study of programming languages. The implementation of functions also requires an understanding of the static and dynamic elements of memory, including the run-time stack. The stack also helps us understand other ideas like the scope of a name and the lifetime of an object. These topics are treated in Chapter 9.
