  • Air travel is continuing to experience the fastest growth among all modes of transport. Increasing total fuel consumption and the potential impacts of aircraft engine emissions on the global atmosphere have motivated the industry, scientific community, and international governments to seek various emissions reduction options. Despite the efforts to understand and mitigate the impacts of aviation emissions, it still remains uncertain whether proposed emissions reduction options are technologically and financially feasible....

  • This technical report describes the F-15 programmed depot maintenance (PDM) process as performed at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WR-ALC) in FYs 2004-2006. WR-ALC has a sequential process that F-15s follow when undergoing PDM. The average WR-ALC F-15 PDM visit runs behind schedule. This problem was

  • The classic text on helicopter aerodynamics, "Aerodynamics of the Helicopter" has been in continuous print for over fifty years. Clearly written and well illustrated, the book focuses on fundamental physical relationships without a highly complex mathematical development. The emphasis on fundamentals makes the book an ideal - indeed, necessary - first step towards more advanced study.

  • An imposing barrier to entry for current plant-derived materials, and the issue most often debated, is the competitive cost situation. In many cases, the current cost of using plant-based materials is viewed as being relatively high, and not competitive with hydrocarbon-based processes. However, the cost-competitive situation contains several highly complex interactions among the key factors: value of product, cost of materials, volume of throughput, degree of processing required, and performance of the building blocks used.

  • The CGAP measure of relative macroeconomic performance is attractive for a number of reasons. First, it is based on changes in real GDP, a fundamental variable that should be highly correlated with changes in underlying welfare. Second, our measure should not be unduly sensitive to the stage of an economy’s business cycle going into the crisis. An economy that was overheating prior to 2008 would tend to have a positive unexplained component at that point in time, but it is only the unexplained component during the crisis itself that is considered in our analysis.

  • This book contains chapters on nanocomposites for engineering hard materials for high performance aircraft, rocket and automobile use, using laser pulses to form metal coatings on glass and quartz, and also tungsten carbide-cobalt nanoparticles using high voltage discharges. A major section of this book is largely devoted to chapters outlining and applying analytic methods needed for studies of nanocomposites. As such, this book will serve as good resource for such analytic methods.

  • This subcourse is designed to provide instruction on the concept and operation of the basic components of the hydraulic system. It also describes the various components of a typical hydraulic system, their construction and functions, and their relationship to each other. When the term hydraulics is applied to aircraft, it means a method of transmitting power from one location to another through the use of a confined fluid.

  • Fuel cell-powered aircraft have been of long-term interest to the aviation community because of their potential for improved performance and environmental compatibility. Only recently have improvements in the technological readiness of fuel cell power plants enabled the first aviation applications. Based on the results of conceptual design studies and a few technology demonstration projects, a widespread understanding of the importance of fuel cell power plants for near-term and future aviation applications has emerged.
