  • Modern WAN architectures require additional network capabilities to support current higher bandwidth and mission-critical applications. Requirements for deploying voice over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing include high availability, IP multicast, and quality of service (QoS). Today, most enterprises rely on private WAN connections such as Frame Relay, ATM, or leased-line services to connect their businesses.

  • Everybody’s talking about cloud services today. It’s one of the hot new buzzwords, but most of the conversation is about how to develop custom applications in the cloud. While that is a really important topic, it ignores another very useful attribute of a distributed cloud: as a great place to build and host an IT infrastructure. The dearth of discussion about this overlooked facet of cloud computing is the reason I wrote this book.

  • In Vietnam, project cycle management (PCM) of road investment projects consists of investment preparation, implementation, construction, and operation processes. The postevaluation of projects during operation has not yet been considered through PCM in a systematic and effective manner. This paper discussed project management issues of road infrastructure projects in Vietnam. Then the paper introduced the post-evaluation process for integrating into Vietnam’s PCM using the PCM methodology developed by Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID).

  • Despite the great technological advancement experienced in recent years, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) are still used in many applications from the real world and still play a central role in infrastructure of industrial automation. PLC operate in the factory-floor level and are responsible typically for implementing logical control, regulatory control strategies, such as PID and fuzzy-based algorithms, and safety logics. Usually PLC are interconnected with the supervision level through communication network, such as Ethernet networks, in order to work in an integrated form....

  • Before looking at the steps necessary to build the preceding application, I should cover what the term .NET means and what it offers to a software developer. .NET is an infrastructure that provides two major benefits: productivity and security. Using .NET, a developer can write code for many modern problem domains faster, and during coding, the developer faces fewer pitfalls that could end up in security vulnerabilities. Furthermore, .NET code can be implemented so that it can be executed with restricted access to APIs.
