  • This book is designed for those with an inspired idea who wish to translate it into a successful new business or incorporate it in an existing business. Usually, the first challenge for those who want to get a business idea off the ground is securing funding. Any investor or those in an existing business with responsibility for approving new initiatives will invariably insist upon seeing a business plan before they approve any investment.

  • A context-sensitive approach to sustainable planning and development helps to protect public health, safety, andwelfare. By avoiding inherent site problems, or constraints, and by capitalizing on inherent site assets, or opportunities, site planners can limit long-term maintenance costs and, more important, reduce the risks to life and property from natural hazards. The careful analysis of sites—and the site’s context—can lead to better development proposals and, ultimately, to higher-quality built environments. Qualified site planners and designers are vital to this process.

  • Once the SRS has been approved, implementation begins. Programming teams have many options: The programmers can simply start building the code and create the objects and user interface elements. Designers can build a user interface prototype to demonstrate to the users, stakeholders and the rest of the team. Any code used to develop the prototype is typically thrown away once the design has been finalized. Pictures, flow charts, data flow diagrams, database design diagrams and other visual tools can be used to determine aspects of the design and architecture.

  • Another kind of reductionism occurs with attempts to reduce percep- tion to brain processes or neural events (Ramachandran & Hirstein 1999). Evidently, the brain is necessary for perceptual processing. Yet, according to TSC, perceptual processes are constructed in real time in the interaction between agent and environment. As Harth (2004) remarks in discussing the relation between neurophysiology and art, a theory of artistic expression must take into account not only the human brain, but also the world at large.

  • A review is any activity in which a work product is distributed to reviewers who examine it and give feedback. Reviews are useful not only for finding and eliminating defects, but also for gaining consensus among the project team, securing approval from stakeholders, and aiding in professional development for team members. Reviews help teams find defects soon after they are injected making them cost less to fix than they would cost if they were found in test. All work products in a software project should be either reviewed or tested.

Italian and Canadian banks, for example, are required to seek prior approval by their home regulator in order to open an overseas branch, and the Bank of Spain can refuse a bank’s application to open a branch on a wider set of criteria than in the case of subsidiaries (for EU-domiciled banks, these additional constraints do not apply for affiliate operations in EU member states given the EU single passport regime).

  • This collection offers new perspectives on ethical naturalism, narrowly construed as the conjunction of two core theses. One holds that there are moral properties and facts, the other that at least some such properties and facts are natural properties and facts. Thus understood, ethical naturalism is distinct from, though usually motivated by, philosophical naturalism, a more general metaphysical outlook according to which all there is is the world as conceived by science.
