They clam approximately 500 species, widely distributed in coastal intertidal zone of tropical temperate countries. Our country has about 40 species of 7 breed groups, distributed along the coast from north to south.
Northern coastal areas have clam oil (Meretrix lime), clam password (Meretrix llusoria Rumplius). Southern coastal areas have clam (Meretrix lyrata Sowerby).

The culture of striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage), or “ca tra” in Vietnamese in
the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, can be considered as a unique aquatic farming system in many ways.
Production is the fastest growth recorded in any aquaculture sector, ever, based on a single species,
superseding the production per unit for any form of primary production. Stripped catfish aquaculture
now need to be improved in many aspects and environmental issues need to be paid more attention to
ensure the sustainable development.
Genetic improvement of fish species is considered a priority area for research and development by the government of Viet Nam, particularly in the context of rural development, food security and poverty alleviation. The current proposal has been developed in consultation with Vietnamese staff of participating institutions. The project builds upon the existing collaborative links between Deakin University and the Research Institutes of Aquaculture (RIAs) in Viet Nam.
The project uses a dual approach which focuses on both the physical / scientific dimension of aquaculture and the educational / training dimension of aquaculture extension program development. This dual approach enables the improvement of aquaculture practises resulting from Dimension 1 to be consolidated and disseminated more broadly through provincial aquaculture communities per medium of the activities of Dimension 2. The project supports capacity building in both aquaculture management and aquaculture extension (community education)....
The overall objective of the project is to increase food security and income of rural Vietnamese in coastal communities by improving the profitability, and environmental sustainability, of intensive aquaculture in Vietnam. This addresses identified priorities of the CARD Program to build capacity in areas of fisheries and aquaculture and livestock feed improvement. This will be delivered by building the teaching and research base for aquaculture nutrition at the University of Fisheries (UoF) at Nha Trang.
Goal It is to provide scientific arguments about the biological characteristics, and reproductive and rearing techniques of Channa lucius. The success of the project will contribute greatly to the development process of Channa lucius hatchery to supply artificial fish for aquaculture systems and renewable fish resources in the wild in the Mekong Delta as well as in the whole country.
Shrimp farming is an evolving sector of agriculture that creates important economic
opportunities in many rural communities plagued by under and unemployment. This
water farming practice relies on the wise and responsible use of coastal natural
resources and habitats. The long-term, local success of shrimp farming is also influenced
by global market forces, consumer preferences and international food safety standards.
Advances depend on accessibility of critical research, educational and laboratory services.
Myanmar was hit by Cyclone Nargis in May 2008 with winds
of 190km/hour and an enormous sea surge. It destroyed
houses and even whole villages and caused massive
fl ooding with an offi cially estimated death toll of 140,000
people and the livelihoods of 2.4 million people seriously
affected. I outlined issues relating to small-scale aquaculture
in articles in previous columns (‘Myanmar revisited’ in the
January-March 2009 issue and ‘Small-scale aquaculture
in the Ayeyarwady Delta’ in the April-June 2009 issue).
The third step involved examining the relationship between Spanish performance at the
end of second grade and English performance at the end of third grade and end of fourth
grade through a series of regression analyses. This technique allowed us to test the
relationships between initial factors (initial reading performance in Spanish) and outcome
factors (performance in English reading at the end of third and fourth grades), controlling
for initial performance on other factors that could influence this relationship.
If better management (BMP) was adopted in Vietnam there is evidence that the current trends and past environmental degradation can be stopped and even reversed, and shrimp production efficiency can be increased.
The main objective of the project is to develop and expand clam technology (production of seeds and livestock) to sustain the livelihoods of poor farmers in coastal North Central Province and develop a management strategy contributes sustainable water use clam aquaculture farms to improve water use thai.Trong tomtrang six months, the focus of the project is focused in the following two aspects. (1) Prepare and create favorable conditions for the agreement between stakeholders and research organizations to carry out 'on farm trials.
Bivalve culture such as clam production is a promising activity as it is more profitable despite a low production rate. However, clam culture has the disadvantage of mainly relying on capture of seed source from the wild. At the same time, due to disease outbreak in the prawn farming sector as a consequence of water deterioration, there has been an overall reduction in aquaculture production. Clam is recognized as a water cleaning machine(filter feeder), thus water quality will be improved if clam can be incorporated into the shrimp farming system.
