Most research in robotics centers on the control and equations of motion for
multiple link and multiple degree-of-freedom armed, legged, or propelled systems. A
great amount of effort is expended to plot exacting paths for systems built from
commercially available motors and motor controllers. Deficiencies in component and
subsystem performance are often undetected until the device is well past the initial design
Born amidst the furious social changes of the mid-1960s, postmodern architecture redefined the purposes of a prestigious profession. In this work, Magali Sarfatti Larson gives a bold and comprehensive account of the social, economic, and ideological shifts that cracked the modernist dogma and reintroduced historical allusion, diversity, and ornament into architectural discourse and practice.
The RoboCup Initiative, the Robot World Cup Soccer Games and Conferences,
provides a large spectrum of research and development issues in Articial Intelligence
(AI) and Robotics. In particular, it remarkably provides a common task,
namely robotic soccer, for the investigation and evaluation of dierent approaches,
theories, algorithms, and architectures for multiagent software and robotic
The RAGS proposals for generic specification of NLG systems includes a detailed account of data representation, but only an outline view of processing aspects. In this paper we introduce a modular processing architecture with a concrete implementation which aims to meet the RAGS goals of transparency and reusability. We illustrate the model with the RICHES system – a generation system built from simple linguisticallymotivated modules.
This paper describes recent progress on the TRIPS architecture for developing spoken-language dialogue systems. The interactive poster session will include demonstrations of two systems built using TRIPS: a computer purchasing assistant, and an object placement (and manipulation) task.
We argue that verbal patient diagnosis is a promising application for limited-domain speech translation, and describe an architecture designed for this type of task which represents a compromise between principled linguistics-based processing on the one hand and efficient phrasal translation on the other. We propose to demonstrate a prototype system instantiating this architecture, which has been built on top of the Open Source REGULUS 2 platform. The prototype translates spoken yes-no questions about headache symptoms from English to Japanese, using a vocabulary of about 200 words. ...
This book is based on material from the first 12 issues of the Green Building Digest. We began to publish the digest in 1995 in an attempt to distribute information abuot the enviromental impact of building material and techniques to a wide range of people conectned with the built environment in England...
Spent the years, the Electrical and Electronic technology has bloomed in white hairs; white
technologically for much people and green socially for others.
To who writes to them, it wants with this theoretical and practical book, to teach criteria of
design with the experience of more than thirty years.
As with micromachining processes, many MEMS sensor-packaging techniques are
the same as, or derived from, those used in the semiconductor industry. However,
the mechanical requirements for a sensor package are typically much more stringent
than for purely microelectronic devices. Microelectronic packages are often generic
with plastic, ceramic, or metal packages being suitable for the vast majority of IC
This dissertation investigates novel applications of the wavelet transform in the analysis and compression of audio, still images, and video. In a second focal point, we evaluate the didactic potential of multimedia–enhanced teaching material for higher education. Most recently, some theoretical surveys have been published on the potential for a wavelet–based
Leonard and Durrant-Whyte summarized the problem of navigation by three questions:
"where am I?", "where am I going?", and "how should I get there?" This report surveys the stateof-
the-art in sensors, systems, methods, and technologies that aim at answering the first question,
that is: robot positioning in its environment.
Resembling a large-scale comprehensive building design, an encyclopedia necessitates
the collaborative efforts of countless individuals and may take considerable time to
complete. It seems long ago that Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers invited me to edit a two-
volume encyclopedia about 20th-century architecture. In 1998, I was teaching the history
of architecture in a landmark 1890s Richardsonian Romanesque building at Lake Forest
College, a small liberal arts college north of Chicago.
NC programs include those which are prepared by custom macro and very
seldom altered and those which may differ from one another according to
relevant machining such as part programs. A batch handling of these
programs of different characters may cause 1 quicker battery
consumption, or spoil the custom macro in case of misoperation.
The word “robot” was introduced by the Czech playright Karel ˇ Capek in his 1920 play
The word “robota” in Czech means simply “work.” In spite of such practical beginnings,
science fiction writers and early Hollywood movies have given us a romantic notion of robots.
Thus, in the 1960s robots held out great promises for miraculously revolutionizing industry overnight.
In fact, many of the more far-fetched expectations from robots have failed to materialize. ...
Parallax wanrrants its products against in materials and workmanship for aperiod of 90 days, If you discover adefect ,Parallax will at its option, repair, or refund the purchase price. Simply call for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number, write the number on the outside of the box and send it back to parallax.
Throughout its history, the Army has been manpower-intensive in most of its systems. The
combination of demographic changes (fewer young men), changed battlefield scenarios, and
advanced technologies in improved robotics, computers, and artificial intelligence (AI) suggests
both a need and an opportunity to multiply the effectiveness of Army personnel.
IMS – the IP Multimedia Subsystem of the 3GPP family of telecommunication standards –
may very well be at the same time the worst and the best kept secret of the telecom world.
“Secret” because it is essentially designed to be invisible – the modern version of the infrastructure
that delivers communication to the world. “Worst kept” because it has dominated
the strategies for communication evolution in the past years, and has thus been very visible,
at least to those in the industry.
This book discusses an emerging approach to
architecture in which building performance is a
guiding design principle. This architecture places
broadly defined performance above, or on a par
with, form-making; it utilizes digital technologies of
quantitative and qualitative performance-based
simulation to offer a comprehensive new approach
to the design of the built environment.
A BBS (Bulletin Board System) Forum for the DE2 board has been created at the address shown
