  • Engineering often involves applying a consistent, structured approach to the solving of problems. A general problem-solving approach and method can be defined, although variations will be required for specific problems. Problems must be approached methodically, applying an algorithm, or step-by-step procedure by which one arrives at a solution.

  • The Seattle, Las Vegas, and Atlanta arrays should use the same enterprise policy. Only the Chicago site has a connection to the Internet. You want the other three sites to use dial-up connections to the Chicago site. The ISA Server computers at the Seattle, Las Vegas, and Atlanta sites should provide Internet access to client computers on the network. At what level should you configure dial-up connections, dial-up entry policy elements, and routing rules at these three sites.

  • Module II is the second course in the C++ Programming for Game Developers series. Recall that in Module I we started off by studying fundamental programming concepts like variables, console input and output, arrays, conditional statements, strings, loops, and file input and output. We then pursued higher level programming methodologies such as classes, object oriented programming design, operator overloading, inheritance, and polymorphism. By now you should feel competent with the fundamentals and at least comfortable with the higher level subject matter...

  • What is programming? Programming, according to Dictionary.com, is “a set of coded instructions that enables a machine, especially a computer, to perform a desired sequence of operations.” In other words, programming allows you to make your computer do whatever you want it to do. Programming is used in everything related to the computer, but there are many distinct flavors of programming. This book teaches game programming.

  • Historically, a course on data structures has been a mainstay of most computer science departments. Over the last 18 years, however, the focus of this course has broadened considerably. The topic of data structures has now been subsumed under the broader topic of abstract data types (ADTs)—the study of classes of objects whose logical behavior is defined by a set of values and a set of operations.

  • The concept of money is something that has been around in human civilization for thousands of years. Yet, to this day, there is a large array of misconceptions, superstitions and outright lies concerning money. Some consider money to be some sort of supernatural phenomenon, like manna from the Gods, which somehow imbues upon each person a quantifiable amount of merit. Other people consider money as the proverbial “root of all evil” – a mechanism of enslavement utilized as the primary tool of either a malicious Devil or the combined society of greedy men. The aim of this document is to...

  • We present an array of force spectroscopy experiments that aim to identify the role of solvent hydrogen bonds in protein folding and chemical reactions at the single-molecule level. In our experiments we control the strength of hydrogen bonds in the solvent environment by substituting water (H2O) with deuterium oxide (D2O). Using a combination of force protocols, we demonstrate that protein unfolding, protein collapse, protein folding and a chemical reaction are affected in different ways by substituting H2O with D2O.
