In its Ninth Programme, the English Law Commission said it would set up this
joint project to examine at least two key areas of insurance contract
law: non-disclosure (which will necessarily include misrepresentation) and breach
of warranty. It said we would consult on whether there is a need to review other
areas such as the law on insurable interest and on joint policies. No decision has
yet been made as to whether other areas should be reviewed.
Marketers have identified urban, low-income African-American and Latino youth as
“superconsumers” of soda, candy, and snack products. Many young people report frequent
snacking, unstructured meals, and eating “junk food,” such as candy, chips, and soda, for their
primary meal. Recent research studying the amount and type of advertising on prime-time
television programs oriented to African-American audiences compared to those for general
audiences found that far more food commercials appear on shows with large...
It also reviews different valuation methods and estimated values for non-market forest
goods and services in Europe. Chapter 5 gives an overview of the financing mechanisms used in the
Member States and their applicability for different goods and services. It includes a theoretical
review of alternative financing mechanisms for non-market forest goods and services (FG&S) as well
as an empirical assessment of their use in Europe and EU Member States (EU MS).
The capital of the Fund is represented by issued and
redeemable shares with no par value. The shares are
entitled to distributions, if any, and to payment of a
proportionate share based on the Fund’s NAV per
share upon redemption. The Fund has no restrictions
or specific capital requirements on the subscriptions
and redemptions of shares except as disclosed in
Note 8(a), if any. The relevant movements in capital
are shown on the Statement of Changes in Net Assets.
This is because IT
uses primers based on allele sequences of functionally characterized genes, and thus specific
banding patterns corresponding to plant phenotypes can be identified (Cernák, 2008;
Cernák et al., 2008; Gizaw, 2011). However, development of such markers depends on the
availability of robust genomic databases holding several target sequences for IT marker
development. Functional gene characterization criteria might be limiting factors, since it is
not possible to establish gene functions in a molecular ecological sense for all genes.
Real and perceived quality gaps in public coverage and delivery systems serve as an impetus for
PHI purchases in some countries. Waiting times, increasing demand for choice, and perceptions of
inadequacy of public systems are leading motivations in Ireland, Australia, Denmark, and the United
Kingdom. Where public cover is not provided, primary PHI policies are purchased mainly to minimise the
financial risks associated with illness. Finally, the diversity in consumer attitudes and preferences is
difficult to compare across countries.
Non-EU AIFMs intending to market AIFs they manage in the EU with a passport once it is available (expected in 2015), or to manage EU AIFs, must receive a prior authorization from the competent authorities of their EU Member State of reference. To obtain such authorization, they must comply with the requirements of the Directive or equivalent rules.
The Member State of reference is determined in accordance with a complex series of rules; in summary, it is generally the Member State where the applicant AIFM carries out most management or marketing.
One of the key economic functions of credit institutions is to convert short-
term deposits into long-term loans. Depending on the scale of this maturity
transformation – which essentially determines the risk arising from a bank’s
balance sheet structure – sharply fl uctuating market interest rates can have a
considerable impact on banks’ earnings and on their capital base. The increas-
ing complexity of markets makes effective processes for measuring and man-
aging interest rate exposure an essential business requirement for credit insti-
LISA has an international perspective, and a diverse audience including researchers, students, library
staff, and information professionals. Since its inception in 1969 LISA has been interested in a broad range
of library and information science (LIS) theory and practice, now taking in developments facilitated by
information and communications technology and LIS-related fields such as archives, records
management, publishing, information design and technical writing. Consequently, LISA covers a great
variety of publications.
Existing sensor network architectures are based on the as-
sumption that data will be polled. Therefore, they are not
adequate for long-term battery-powered use in applications
that must sense or react to events that occur at unpre-
In addition to insulating the feet from the extreme heat of
molten metal, foundry shoes keep hot metal from lodging in shoe
eyelets, tongues or other shoe parts. These snug-fitting leather or
leather-substitute shoes have leather or rubber soles and rubber
heels. All foundry shoes must have built-in safety toes.
Care of Protective Footwear
As with all protective equipment, safety footwear should be
inspected prior to each use. Shoes and leggings should be checked
for wear and tear at reasonable intervals.
How shall we assess the structural change hypothesis as the basis for inner-city urban
poverty? It certainly seems plausible. One has only to walk the former industrial district
of any large, older city, from New York to San Francisco, to see its physical manifesta-
tions. Yet some nagging problems remain.
During the time we met as a Commission, tragedies such as the African famines, the leak at the
pesticides factory at Bhopal, India, and the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, USSR appeared to
justify the grave predictions about the human future that were becoming commonplace during
the mid-1980s. But at public hearings we held on five continents, we also heard from the
individual victims of more chronic, widespread disasters: the debt crisis, stagnating aid to and
investment in developing countries, falling commodity prices and falling personal incomes.
Organic chemicals commonly used by industry with known or suspected
human health impacts that are often encountered in groundwaters include, for example,
aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (collectively
known as “BTEX”) as well as volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons such as tetrachloroethene and
trichloroethene. A diverse range of pesticides is also found in groundwaters that is primarily,
but not exclusively, ascribed to agricultural activities.
The conclusion to be drawn from the last requirement above is that if a county is interested in
minimizing the amount of time that it stores various types of records, it needs to draft a request for a
shorter retention period, including the basis for requesting that shorter period, and submit it to the public
forms and records board for review and approval.
Income maintenance programs require special records retention periods. Records documenting that
clients received notices of overpayments must be retained until the overpayment issue is resolved,
however long that takes.
Ibbotson’s earlier work (with numerous co-authors) has documented the past
returns of the major asset classes, thus revealing the payoffs received for taking
various types of risk, and has presented an approach to forecasting future asset class
returns. The asset classes that Ibbotson and his associates are best known for
studying are stocks, bonds, bills, and consumer goods (inflation).
Battelle Memorial Institute is completed a DOE
sponsored project that designed an experimental CO2
injection well and prepare it for permitting. Tasks
involved include subsurface geologic assessment
in the vicinity of the experimental site, seismic
characterization of the site, borehole drilling to
characterize the reservoir and cap rock formations,
injection and monitoring system design, and risk
assessment. The well site is located at a large coal
fired power plant in west-central West Virginia.
The Delaware River Basin Commission is a regulatory body that was established in 1961 by a
congressional compact. It includes a division engineer from the US Army Corps of Engineers and
representatives from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware who are appointed
individually by the executive office in each state . Any decision of the Commission involves the
approval of all members. The Commission has full water resource management authority, including
water allocations and diversions.
When a complication of acute rhinosinusitis or an alter-
native diagnosis is suspected, imaging studies may be ob-
tained. Complications of ABRS include orbital, intracranial,
or soft tissue involvement. Alternative diagnoses include
malignancy and other noninfectious causes of facial pain.
Radiographic imaging may also be obtained when the pa-
tient has modifying factors or comorbidities that predispose
to complications, including diabetes, immune compromised
state, or a past history of facial trauma or surgery.
Usingmarket conditions at graduation as instruments for initial career choice, I
show that taking a position onWall Street leads a person to bemuchmore likely
to work onWall Street later in his or her career. I then estimate how shocks that
lead people to either start their careers on Wall Street or elsewhere affect the
discounted long-term financial value of their compensation. I estimate that a
person who graduates in a bullmarket and goes to work in investment banking
upon graduation earns an additional $1.
