  • Composite applications aid businesses by stitching together various componented business capabilities. In the current enterprise scenario, empowering business users to react quickly to the rapidly changing business environment is the top most priority. With the advent of composite applications the 'reuse' paradigm has moved from the technical aspect to the business aspect. You no longer re-use a service but re-use a business process. Now, enterprises can define their own behaviors optimized for their businesses through metadata and flows.

  • Today’s stringent design requirements and difficult-to-machine materials such as tough super alloys, ceramics, and composites, have made traditional machining processes costly and obsolete. As a result, manufacturers and machine design engineers are turning to advance machining processes. These machining processes utilizes electrical, chemical, and optimal sources of energy to bind, form and cut materials.

  • Concrete can be classified as composite material and that is a combination of different components which improve their performance properties. In general case binder component which can be in hard crystalline or amorphous state is considered as the matrix of composite material. In concrete matrix phase the grains of aggregates (dispersed phase) are uniformly distributed.

  • The JAXB compiler generates the interfaces and the implementation classes corresponding to the XML Schema. The JAXB Class Generator, which is based on the Java Specification Request (JSR) recommendation for JAXB, is to be used for new applications. The Class Generator for Java is deprecated and replaced by the JSR-31 implementation of XML Data Binding (JAXB). The runtime will be supported, so that the Java classes generated in older releases will continue to work.

  • In this chapter, we looked at the different classes which are part of the MVC architecture in Ext JS as well as Sencha Touch. We also looked at the function of each of these classes and saw the differences in their behavior and usage. In addition to the common classes—application, controller, model, view (component)—we also looked at the Touch-specific way to handle profiles to encapsulate device-specific behaviors and layout in the applications. Also, we saw how to set up the routes in a Touch application and have the history tracking in place.

  • The US dollar appreciated by roughly 25% with respect to the euro and Swiss franc in the five months following the collapse of Lehman Brothers, and by even more against many other currencies during this period. Unless accounted for, exchange rate movements of this size severely distort credit growth rates for those economies where credit stocks have large foreign currency components. Moreover, they complicate the construction of regional and global credit aggregates (and growth rates), which requires that credit to borrowers in different countries be expressed in a common currency....

  • Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a potent blocker of angiogene-sis in vivo, and of endothelial cell migration and tubule formation, binds with high affinity to an as yet unknown protein on the surfaces of endothe-lial cells. Given that protein fingerprinting suggested a match of a 60 kDa PEDF-binding protein in bovine retina withBos taurusF1-ATP synthase b-subunit, and that F1Fo-ATP synthase components have been identified recently as cell-surface receptors, we examined the direct binding of PEDF to F1. ...

  • Across evolution, the signal recognition particle pathway targets extra-cytoplasmic proteins to membranous trans-location sites. Whereas the pathway has been extensively studied in Eukarya and Bacteria, little is known of this sys-tem in Archaea. In the following, membrane association of FtsY, the prokaryal signal recognition particle receptor, and SRP54, a central component of the signal recognition par-ticle, was addressed in the halophilic archaea Haloferax volcanii.

  • The growth factor pleiotrophin (PTN) has been reported to bind heparan sulfate and nucleolin, two components of the cell surface implicated in the attachment of HIV-1 particles to cells. Here we show that PTN inhibits HIV-1 infection by its capacity to inhibit HIV-1 particle attachment to the surface of permissive cells. The b-sheet domains of PTN appear to be implicated in this inhibitory effect on the HIV infection, in particular the domain containing amino acids 60–110. PTN binding to the cell surface is mediated by high and low affinity binding sites....
