In the past, environmental goods and services were seen as having limited economic importance.
Now, environmental issues and activities pervade every aspect of our economic life and performance
and are subject to challenging national and international targets, strict monitoring regimes and
ongoing discussion and debate in the media. As understanding of environmental challenges has
grown, so too has appreciation of the size of the market and the associated business opportunities.
This means that services which could potentially fall within the remit of both insurance
schemes tend to be shifted to the LTC insurance because this is much cheaper. Secondly,
although the revenues and costs of all the German health funds are equalized to take account
of their respective member structures (age, gender) (Strukturausgleich), this is not the case for
the revenues and costs of the LTC funds. This leads to a high disincentive for the LTC funds
to minimize their costs.
Our primary motivation for improving the health of women is our concern with their well-being. But the health of
women and adolescent girls is intimately linked to the health of their own children and future generations. Because
of their roles in child-rearing, such as providing and seeking care, and managing water and nutrition, women play a
crucial role in providing access to health services and health-related knowledge for their families and communities.
From 2002 to 2007, remittances to developing
countries increased by 107 per cent (table 3). Much
of this increase occurred in low- and middle-income
countries. In 2005 it was estimated that
approximately 500 million people (8 per cent of the
world’s population) were benefiting from remittances.
Latin America and the Caribbean, East Asia and the
Pacific, and South Asia obtain the largest shares of
international remittances. According to 2007
estimates, these regions received, respectively,
25, 24 and 18 per cent of all official international
remittances to developing countries.
The European Commission is expected to finalise the bulk
of the AIFMD level 2 implementing measures in the second
trimester of 2012. Then the onus will be on the Luxembourg
lawmakers to push ahead in the remaining months of 2012
to draft the new legal texts required to transpose the EU
framework into local law. The ultimate deadline to transpose
the AIFMD is July 2013.
Some genres have specific stylistic characteristics or employ techniques that are a key way of
generating suspense or fear. Point-of-view is one of the principal techniques of the horror genre
(for example, the sequence of the serial killer stalking Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs in Lesson
1). This extract from Halloween is one of the most famous examples of the use of point-of-view in
film with the movie beginning with the point-of-view of an anonymous murderer as he stalks and
kills a victim and then the camera draws back at the end of the scene to deliver...
This paper gives insights into the BA segment with a special focus on Germany. First we introduce
the concept of BA financing. In a second step we analyse the BA market in Germany. We
conclude that there is a significant excess demand for early stage financing. In the third part of this
paper we explain, how the EIF aims to address this by providing a flexible and timely support to
the BAs market through establishing an intermediation infrastructure to efficiently leverage this
To date, most mutual fund performance evaluations have been fairly simplistic: how has a fund
performed relative to “the market”? The Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index is usually used as a proxy for
the market, despite the fact that it accounts for only about 70% of the capitalization of the U.S. stock market
and is dominated by corporations with gigantic market capitalizations. (Its largest 25 stocks account, on
average, for 1% of the entire market; the 6500 “non-500” stocks in the market have an average weight of
4/1000 of 1%.) But today, many funds resemble...
You may be asked to choose between a “tax-qualified” long-term care
insurance policy and one that is “non-tax-qualified.” There are important
differences between the two types of policies. These differences were
created by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
A federally tax-qualified long-term care insurance policy, or a qualified
policy, offers certain federal income tax advantages. If you have a qualified
long-term care policy and you itemize your deductions, you may be able to
deduct part or all of the premium you pay for the policy.
The number of alerts the Threat Analyzer can display has a direct correlation to your
system's memory. Since you can access the Central Manager from the local host or a
remote connection, this depends on the machine used for the Central Manager logon. The
memory overhead for alerts, including the code base and Java virtual machine, is
approximately 1 KB per alert when there are at least 10,000 alerts in the Threat Analyzer
(more KBs when there are fewer alerts). McAfee recommends 1 GB of RAM in your
system which enables you to handle up to 1,000,000 total alerts. If...
Individuals and businesses desire a certain quality from a GI service for which they are willing to
pay a certain amount of money. If that GI service fails to meet the expectations in terms of quality and
price, the service requestor is likely to patronize another provider. The availability of gradually
differentiated quality versions of a GI service offered by a provider as a GI service product line
enforces the user to self-select the price-quality combination that satisfies her or his needs.

With nearly one billion online videos viewed everyday,
an emerging new frontier in computer vision research is
recognition and search in video. While much effort has
been devoted to the collection and annotation of large scal-
able static image datasets containing thousands of image
categories, human action datasets lag far behind. Cur-
rent action recognition databases contain on the order of
ten different action categories collected under fairly con-
Interview results support the idea that the executive director plays
a central role of in an organization’s operations and effective
governance. In the organizations interviewed, all had self-defined
successful relationships between the executive director and board
of directors—partly because the executive director actively
participated in board matters. The caveat is that executive directors
were strategic in their areas of involvement and, more importantly,
how they got involved (i.e.
Due to saturation in some of the big Turkish cities and rapidly
increasing land prices, many developers and institutional investors
are forced to look beyond the biggest cities and explore secondary
cities, like Mersin, Samsun, Kocaeli and Diyarbakir. Mersin for
example, is a sizable city with a busy port on the Mediterranean
coast of southern Turkey and an industrialised and commercially
active city. It has already attracted a number of retail investment
projects and houses five shopping centres, with the capacity to
absorb further centres.
The structure of health systems and PHI roles influence differences in access to health care by
insurance status. In OECD countries with no observed waiting times for elective surgery – such as the
United States, France, Switzerland, Japan, Belgium and Germany – all insured individuals enjoy timely
access to care irrespective of whether their main form of coverage is public or private health insurance.
Exchanges have suggested several complementary rationales for
establishing themselves as a source of corporate governance-related regulations.
In essence, by raising transparency and discouraging illegal or irregular
practices, exchanges are themselves able to accumulate an amount of
The outputs of an ARIES session have numerous practical uses for conservation and economic development planning. Notably, they can show which regions are critical to maintaining the supply and flows of particular benefits for specific beneficiary groups. By prioritizing conservation and restoration activities around sources and sinks for particular services, benefit flows may be maintained or increased. Similarly, focusing development or extractive resource use outside these regions can prevent degradation of benefit flows.
These are two dramatically different exercises. In recent decades much work in the
public health field has focused on the first, on identifying the primary causes of poor health,
including their prevalence and distribution, and on developing an evidence-based understanding
of the interventions that will work to addresses those causes. There is broad consensus on the
methodology for evaluating evidence of the efficacy of interventions.
As part of the world’s commitment towards the right to development, peace and security, gender
equality, eradication of multi-dimensional poverty and sustainable human development, the GoN
endorsed the Millennium Declaration in September 2000. In order to achieve the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), the GoN has incorporated the MDGs into the strategic framework of the
country’s Tenth Plan/Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (2002/03-2006/07).
