  • Human development has different meanings depending on the area we will focus on. It is the ontogenetic process of individual development for psychologists. It considers systematic psychological changes in several areas, such as motor, cognitive, emotional, social, that occur in human beings over the course of their life span. To sociologists and economists, among others, human development is the consideration of the macrolevel countries or regions and their development conditions related to human needs.

  • At its inception, the original plan for this symposium was to emphasize the medical aspects of inorganic chemistry, rather than to go over once more new developments in bioinorganic chemistry, important as the subject is, since the latter topic has been treated many times in recent symposia reviews and monographs.

  • In the last two decades, fractional (or non integer) differentiation has played a very important role in various fields such as mechanics, electricity, chemistry, biology, economics, control theory and signal and image processing. For example, in the last three fields, some important considerations such as modelling, curve fitting, filtering, pattern recognition, edge detection, identification, stability, controllability, observability and robustness are now linked to long-range dependence phenomena. Similar progress has been made in other fields listed here.

  • Morphogenesis, growth, and modeling of the skeletal system are dynamic processes, and the skeleton, once formed, is managed dynamically through remodeling. Attempts at consensus definitions and scripts for such processes will provoke heated debate, especially among the kinship of brothers who revere the skeleton. A review chapter of the likes conceived herein will provide grist for debate. This is good. Considerable information is available in the literature on bone morphogenesis, growth, modeling, and remodeling.

  • The use of alternative fuels to displace coal reduces reliance on fossil fuels, reduces emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other pollutants, and contributes to long-term cost savings for cement plants. Further, due to their high burning temperatures, cement kilns are well-suited for accepting and efficiently utilizing a wide range of wastes that can present a disposal challenge. This report begins with an overview of the types of alternative fuels used in cement kilns, focusing on energy and environmental considerations.

  • Since the first edition of this book was published the popular idea of bacteria to which attention was drawn in the original preface has undergone considerable modification. Experimental medicine has added constantly to the list of diseases caused by bacterial organisms, and the general public has been educated to an adequate conception of the importance of the germ as the chief agency in the transmission of disease, with corresponding advantage to the efficiency of personal and public hygiene. At the same time knowledge of the benign bacteria and the enormous role .

  • This Handbook has been designed to assist students as well as professionals in the behavioral and biological sciences to understand and apply the principles and methods of experimental research. The Handbook is comprehensive but is written in a concise, outline format. This allows a considerable amount of material to be presented in an explicit, compact form that facilitates the perception and understanding of the hierarchical and parallel relationships among concepts. As a result, learning, retrieving, and applying the information should be greatly enhanced....

  • This Report addresses in considerable detail the consequences of hot particles on and near the skin, in the eye, ear, respiratory system, and gastrointestinal tract. Limits for exposures from hot particles are recommended. If exposures are maintained below the recommended limits, few, if any, deterministic biological effects are expected to be observed, and those effects would be transient in nature. If effects from a hot-particle exposure are observed, the result is an easily treated medical condition involving an extraordinarily small stochastic risk.

  • The summer/winter difference in plasma volume may be related to the regularly observed summer fall in red blood cell values and total protein. In a fully dehydrated camel with 65% body water, alimentary water has been reported as 12%, which is similar to the figure for tropical cattle. The total water content of the camel is considerably greater in hot dry weather (up to 75%) than in cooler periods (down to 50%), which indicates its physiological water conserving capability.

  • The semichemical process SAICA (Lora & Escudero 2000) and chemi- mechanical Bivis process (Westenbroek & van Roekel 1996, Roberts 2000, Westenbroek 2004) have also been used for mill-scale non-wood pulp production. The chemical consumption of these processes is lower than in chemical processes, nevertheless the spent liquor must be incinerated or treated biologically. Some mills in China have used the neutral sulphite semichemical (NSSC) process (Nassar 2004, Savcor Indufor 2006, Pöyry 2006) for containerboard production.
