The general objectives of the study are to evaluate the status and to find out scientific basis to develop freshwater prawn culture in brackish water, in order to diversify culture systems and species, to stabilize social-economics for inhabitants, and to adapt to the issues of sea level rise and saltwater intrusion in Mekong Delta.
In order to maintain economic development and minimize future regional and
international conflicts, the United States will need sustainable supplies of high-quality fresh water. Solutions to local water scarcity issues will likely require a combination of approaches, including demand management, improved water storage capacity, water
quality protection, and advancements in supply-enhancing water treatment technologies. Desalination technologies can create new sources of freshwater from otherwise impaired waters such as seawater or brackish water.

This study aimed to scaling-up Chaetoceros sp., which has been isolated from Vinh chau saltfield prior inoculation as a stock for fertilizer pond in Artemia culture system. The cultulre system included of 100 L, 500 L in plastic baskets, while 2 m3 and 15 m3 were the earthen ponds with plastic lining. Before starting the new culture, natural brackish water was filtered and treated with chlorine within 48 hours.
