People with MEN1 have a very high risk of developing tumors of 3 glands: the pituitary,
parathyroid, and pancreas. About one-third to one-half of people with this condition also
develop adrenal adenomas or enlarged adrenal glands. These usually do not cause any
symptoms. This syndrome is caused by defects in a gene called MEN1. People who have
a family history of MEN1 or pituitary, parathyroid, pancreas, or adrenal cancers should
ask their doctor if they might benefit from genetic counseling.
In addition to incidence figures, population-based cancer registries that
conduct adequate follow-up of their patients are able to estimate the preva-
lence of cancer. Prevalence figures give an indication of the burden of the dis-
ease in the community. Cancer registries generally assume that once diag-
nosed with cancer, an individual remains a prevalent case until death. Thus,
prevalence may be estimated from data on incidence and survival.
Vaccinating girls and women before sexual debut, and therefore before exposure to HPV
infection, provides an excellent opportunity to decrease the incidence of cervical cancer over
time. As these vaccines protect against HPV types responsible for about 70% of cervical
cancers, there will be a continued need to screen women who have been vaccinated as well
as those who have not been vaccinated.
Pink culture” is ubiquitous. We are surrounded by pink
ribbons that raise awareness about breast cancer and urge
women to be screened against this deadly disease. In the marketplace,
we are bombarded with “pink” products – pink sneakers,
pink kitchen mixers, and even pink buckets of fried chicken – all
designed to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research
and education. But is “pink culture” the best means to these
ends? Are we doing the best we can to fi ght breast cancer?...
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among men and women in
the United States with 170,000 deaths per year. This exceeds the sum of the
next three leading causes of death due to cancer: breast, colon, and prostate.
There are over 1 million deaths worldwide due to lung cancer, making it truly
an epidemic. Fewer than 15% achieve a 5-yr survival. The vast majority (85%)
present with advanced disease, although stage I patients may have a 5-yr
survival approaching 70% (1).
The nucleocapsid complex is surrounded
by a protein shell called capsid to form the viral core. A layer of matrix protein, which is
formed outside the capsid, interacts with the envelope (env) which consists of lipid
envelope derived from the host cell and viral envelope glycoproteins. Viral glycoproteins
are made of two units: a transmembrane portion, which attaches the protein into the lipid
bilayer, and a surface portion, which binds to the cellular receptor.
A fundamental element of sustainable development is environmental sustainability.
Hence, this series was created in 2007 to cover current and emerging issues
in order to promote debate and broaden the understanding of environmental
challenges as integral to achieving equitable and sustained economic growth. The
series will draw on analysis and practical experience from across the World Bank
and from client countries.
The Texas Women’s Health Program (WHP) provides family planning and preventive
health services to low-income women under a Medicaid family planning waiver program. As of
February 2012, the WHP provided care to about 127,000 low-income Texas women.
program cost was $35.6 million in 2011, of which the federal government paid $32 million –
about 90% of the total cost -- while the state paid $3.6 million.

After researching literature on addiction and film,
I chose the films for the study and viewed each one many
times, specifically looking for socioeconomic representations
of characters, treatment of different races, sexes, and sexual
preferences, methods of production as they relate to addicted
characters and drug usage, and the depiction of treatment/
self-help groups. I then outlined the narrative of each film
and compared the uses and meanings brought to addicts,
addiction, and substances. I found that these movies construct
a fairly unified image of treatment.
Car-sharing means that a number of persons share the use of one or more cars.
Use of a car is booked beforehand, the user paying a fee based on the distance
driven and the length of time the car was made use of.
Although this is similar in some ways to traditional car rental, it differs in the
possibility it provides of booking a car for short periods of time and in the rental
agreement being made for an extended period of time, rather than each time a car
is used. In addition, each household has its own set...
Water requirements of camels, although low in comparison to other livestock species, are
still quite high in absolute terms. At the height of the dry season, when the ambient
temperatures are high and the vegetation is dry, an adult camel needs approximately 80 to
100 litres of water every five to seven days. If the pasture consists mainly of halophytic
plants and/or the available water is rich in minerals, the requirement will increase. It will
also increase in lactating animals. A herd of 100 camels during the dry season might
require as much as 10,000 litres of water three...
This demand feature bridges the gap between borrowers and lenders. It
allows governments to issue the long-term bonds they prefer, while making
that debt eligible for purchase by money funds that must invest in short-term
Sound like the SIVs we discussed earlier? VRDNs are like SIVs in many
respects, but with some key differences. First, there is generally less concern
about the credit quality of the bonds in a VRDN than the securities held
in a SIV—governments are usually pretty good payers.
Public transport. As an air quality strategy, a primary goal of a public transport
intervention involves the targeting of service improvements and enhancements in corridors and
for socio-economic groups that would otherwise be expected to adopt widespread car use. Since
these groups tend to be more price- than time-sensitive, service enhancements are more effective
than fare restraint or fare subsidies. For many jurisdictions, this strategy may conflict with
another fundamental goal of public transport policy: providing low-cost transport services to the
Our analysis will emphasize a mechanism of propagation of the effects of cloud
computing which depends on the endogenous market structures. Through business
creation, the adoption of cloud computing is going to enhance competition in each
sector and to increase production and lower mark ups. This will have a positive im-
pact on consumption so as to contribute to the recovery of the EU economy. Most
of all, part of these effects are going to be positively related to the speed of adop-
tion of the new technology.
In preparation to this new scenario, many hardware and software companies are
investing to create new platforms able to attract customers on the clouds. Cloud
platforms provide services to create applications in competition or in alternative to
on-premises platforms, the traditional platforms based on an operating system as a
foundation, on a group of infrastructure services and on a set of packaged and cus-
The 2004 Climate Plan outlines a series of programs designed to cut 72 million tons of
carbon dioxide emissions annually, beyond the scope of France's commitments under
the Kyoto Protocol. The European Union's burden-sharing approach to the Kyoto
Protocol calls on France to freeze its greenhouse gas emissions at 1990 levels over the
2008-2012 period, an objective that government officials say will require annual
reductions of 54 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Against this backdrop, and assuming that policy actions at the European and Member-State level will
continue to rein in the sovereign-debt crisis, thus allowing an easing of financing conditions and a
return of confidence, the EU economy is expected to stabilise at the turn of the year and to embark on a
moderate recovery path thereafter. With strong internal headwinds holding back domestic demand, net
exports are likely to remain the most important growth driver next year.
Process costing is used in situations where homogeneous products or services are produced on
a continuous basis. Costs flow through the manufacturing accounts in basically the same way in
a process costing system as in a job-order costing system. However, costs are accumulated by
department rather than by job in process costing.
In process costing, the equivalent units of production must be determined for each cost cat-
egory in each department.
