  • Chapters in the first part of the book cover all the essential speech processing techniques for building robust, automatic speech recognition systems: the representation for speech signals and the methods for speech-features extraction, acoustic and language modeling, efficient algorithms for searching the hypothesis space, and multimodal approaches to speech recognition.

  • As the Internet grows and routing complexity increases, network-level instabilities are becoming more and more common. End-to-end communications are especially susceptible to service disruptions, while diagnosing and mitigating these disruptions are extremely challenging. In this dissertation, we design and build systems for diagnosing routing anomalies and improving robustness of end-to-end communications. The rst piece of this work describes PlanetSeer, a novel distributed system for diagnosing routing anomalies.

  • We present a novel PCFG-based architecture for robust probabilistic generation based on wide-coverage LFG approximations (Cahill et al., 2004) automatically extracted from treebanks, maximising the probability of a tree given an f-structure. We evaluate our approach using stringbased evaluation. We currently achieve coverage of 95.26%, a BLEU score of 0.7227 and string accuracy of 0.7476 on the Penn-II WSJ Section 23 sentences of length ≤20. grammar for generation.

  • If you were to do a search right now for the hottest technology trends, you would see a consistent theme of focus on the technical areas of web, cloud, and mobile solutions combined with big data and economies of scale. With these trends comes a need for tools that allow technologists, such as you and me, to harness these technical focal areas and bend them to our will.

  • This work presents an agenda-based approach to improve the robustness of the dialog manager by using dialog examples and n-best recognition hypotheses. This approach supports n-best hypotheses in the dialog manager and keeps track of the dialog state using a discourse interpretation algorithm with the agenda graph and focus stack. Given the agenda graph and n-best hypotheses, the system can predict the next system actions to maximize multi-level score functions. To evaluate the proposed method, a spoken dialog system for a building guidance robot was developed.

  • This tutorial will give a practical description of the free software Carnegie Mellon Olympus 2 Spoken Dialog Architecture. Building real working dialog systems that are robust enough for the general public to use is difficult. Most frequently, the functionality of the conversations is severely limited down to simple question-answer pairs. While offthe-shelf toolkits help the development of such simple systems, they do not support more advanced, natural dialogs nor do they offer the transparency and flexibility required by computational linguistic researchers. ...

  • A desirable characteristic of a performance measure is that it be timely, i.e., measure the effect of the manager's actions on firm value at the time those actions are taken (Holmstrom, 1982). This suggests earnings should incorporate the future cash flow effects of managers' actions. Ifthis was all there were to the determination of earnings, we could understand the robust result from thirty years of evidence that, for shorter horizons, average annual earnings is relatively well-described by a random walk (see Watts and Zimmerman, 1986, chapter 6).

  • This book is about a marriage of two compatible yet unlikely partners. Extreme Programming (XP) is a software development methodology that enables users, business people, programmers, and computers to communicate effectively. Perl is a dynamic programming language that lets an XP team embrace the inevitable change caused by effective communication. Perl the fixer and doer of the pair, and XP is the organizer and facilitator. Together they help you build robust software applications efficiently. Like any good marriage, the partners of Extreme Perl support each other....

It systematically attempts to make this data robust: to verify it, ensure as far as possible that it is not partial or selective, and quantify it in such a way that it allows London to be compared with other cities. To assist judgement, we have also recorded, as far as possible on a...
