The belief that children will take care of the parents in the old age is eroding in India where
the family size has been cut down as a result of the demographic process (Dandelkar, 1996).
The situation in the urban areas shows a rejection of older people by the next generation and
this is spreading to rural areas (Desai, 1985). In the nuclear family regime, the position of the
aged becomes more vulnerable and is treated as a burden to the family (Nayar, 1992). The
social negligence of the aged occurs due to cultural, social and economic relations within the...
These capital requirements were notable because, for
the first time, regulatory minimum capital requirements could
be based on the output of banks’ internal risk measurement
models. The market risk capital requirements thus stood in
sharp contrast to previous regulatory capital regimes, which
were based on broad, uniform regulatory measures of risk
The proposed new local audit regime would continue to provide Parliament with the assurances it needs on public spending. The National Audit Office would prepare the Codes of audit practice, which prescribe the way in which auditors are to carry out their functions, and which would continue to be approved by Parliament, and associated guidance. The National Audit Office would also continue to audit Government departments providing funding to local public bodies and will continue to receive Whole of Government Accounts returns.
The rules of the Royal Institution forbid (and wisely) religious or political controversy. It was therefore
impossible for me in these Lectures, to say much which had to be said, in drawing a just and complete picture
of the Ancien Regime in France. The passages inserted between brackets, which bear on religious matters,
were accordingly not spoken at the Royal Institution.
But more. It was impossible for me in these Lectures, to bring forward as fully as I could have wished, the
contrast between the continental nations and England, whether now, or during the eighteenth century.

Streamline Information Security Regulations: Many private sector corporations are
subject to more than one regulator for the protection of their data. For example,
Sarbanes-Oxley requires companies to certify that their financial systems are
appropriately controlled; HIPAA requires control of any personal information regarding
health care, similar to the requirement that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB) Act puts on
personal financial information.
l-Dopa has been used for Parkinson’s disease management for a long time. However, its wide variety in the rate and the extent of absorption remained challenge in designing suitable therapeutic regime. We report here a design of using d-phenylglycine to guard l-dopa for better absorption in the intestine via intestinal peptide transporter I (PepT1). Methods: d-Phenylglycine was chemically attached on l-dopa to form d-phenylglycine-l-dopa as a dipeptide prodrug of l-dopa.
For at least five decades this unique non-suppurative sequel to group
A streptococcal infections has been a concern of the World Health
Organization and its member countries. Sentinel studies conducted
under the auspices of the WHO during the last four decades clearly
documented that the control of the preceding infections and their
sequelae is both cost effective and inexpensive. Without doubt,
appropriate public health control programs and optimal medical
care reduce the burden of disease (1–6)....
Mistreatment of older people has been identified in
facilities for continuing care (such as nursing
homes, residential care, hospitals and day care
facilities) in almost every country where such
institutions exist. Various people may be responsible
for the abuse: a paid member of the staff,
another resident, a voluntary visitor, or relatives or
friends. An abusive or neglectful relationship
between the older person and their caregiver at
home may not necessarily end once the older
person has entered institutional care; the abuse may
sometimes continue in a new setting.
This book addresses several aspects of the law and economics of intellectual
property rights (IPRs) that have been underanalyzed in the existing literature.
It begins with a brief overview of patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and trade-
marks, and the enforcement and licensing of IPRs, focusing on the remedies
available for infringement (injunctions, various forms of damages, and dam-
ages calculation issues); the standard of care (strict liability versus an intent-
or negligence-based standard); and the rules for determining standing to sue
and joinder of defendant for IPR violations.
Constipation: Treatment After the cause of constipation is characterized, a treatment decision can be made. Slow-transit constipation requires aggressive medical or surgical treatment; anismus or pelvic floor dysfunction usually responds to biofeedback management (Fig. 40-4). However, only ~60% of patients with severe constipation are found to have such a physiologic disorder (half with colonic transit delay and half with evacuation disorder).
The issue of health system financing has dominated the health care agenda of
consecutive governments since the changeover from the communist regime. The
first wave of reforms (1989–1993) transformed the system from one financed
primarily through taxes to one based on compulsory health insurance. In 2009
Hungary spent 7.4% of its GDP on health, with public expenditure accounting
for 69.7% of total health spending. Health spending has been unstable over
the years, with several waves of increases followed by longer periods of
cost-containment and budget cuts.
