  • This paper describes a novel method by which a dialogue agent can learn to choose an optimal dialogue strategy. While it is widely agreed that dialogue strategies should be formulated in terms of communicative intentions, there has been little work on automatically optimizing an agent's choices when there are multiple ways to realize a communicative intention. Our method is based on a combination of learning algorithms and empirical evaluation techniques.

  • Participatory mapping exercises began during the very first days of the survey with two women and men groups of villagers using two basic maps, assisted by two research members to explain the objectives of the exercise. They facilitated the process through discussion with villagers about which resources and land types to add to the basic maps. These maps were then put together to build a single map representing the perception of the overall community. During all our onsite activities, the map was available to any villager for adding features and making corrections.

  • What is the definition of a formulation? Why is it needed? What is the importance of a formulation? These are some important questions that need to be addressed during the development of a potential drug product. The strict definition of the word is to specify a formula or to express a formula in systematic terms or concepts. The formula, in the current case, is a pharmaceutical dosage form. A formulation is needed to deliver the drug or the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to its targeted site. In order to overcome some of the physiochemical limitations of an API,...

  • This book combines a careful philosophical discussion of the rationale justifying self-defence together with detailed discussions of the range of statutory selfdefence requirements, as well as discussions of numerous other relevant issues (ie, putative self-defence, excessive self-defence, earlier guilt, battered women). The book argues that before formulating definitions for each aspect of self-defence (necessity, proportionality, retreat, immediacy, mental element, etc.

  • Research show that RVT doesn’t has any side effect on fertility. In 200 cases of pregnancy after RVT 66% lead to neonate birth. Premature birth before 37th week happened in 27% of the cases. Abortion rate in first trimester was 16-20% like general population and second trimester abortion was 9.5% (Plante et al., 2005; Jolley et al., 2007). If the tumor volume is less than 500mm, tumor size is less than 2 cm and invasion depth of stroma is less than 2mm we can do ultraconservative operations include simple trachelectomy or extensive conization with knife. In this...

  • More than 30 years ago, Aaron T. Beck (1967, 1976) emphasized the operation of cognitive schemas as the most fundamental factor in his theories of emotional disorders. Schemas, accordingly, played a principal role in the development and maintenance of psychological disorders as well as in the recurrence and relapse of episodes.

  • Lean Thinking Brings Powerful Financial Incentives to Resource Conservation and Pollution Prevention Improvement. Pollution prevention adherents often advocate a “pollution prevention pays” theme to promote more sustainable production behavior. As well, pollution prevention guidance encourages facilities to examine the total costs of polluting behavior to ensure investment decisions are fairly and completely evaluated. This “Total Cost Assessment” approach, according to advocates, can produce a strong business case (e.g.

  • These changes in the WHO institutional framework, associated with the new aspects of public health challenges and other recent major technical developments, as well as the ongoing WCO re-profiling exercises, have generated the need for developing a second generation Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS). Mozambique’s second generation CCS, covering the period 2009– 2013, builds upon the first CCS that spanned the period 2004–2008. It incorporates national, regional and global developments in health that have occurred since the first generation CCS was formulated.

  • Two models were used to apportion human cases to sources on the basis of sequence types: the modified Hald model and the Island model (12,15). The modified Hald model combines the prevalence of each C. jejuni sequence type among the sources with the observed number of human isolates of that type by using a Bayesian framework (15). This model includes source-specific and type-specific factors, and accounts for variation in the estimated prevalence.

  • This edition continues the theme that runs throughout all 12 chapters: global environmental sustainability. This strategic issue will become even more important in the years ahead, as all of us struggle to deal with the consequences of climate change, global warming, and energy availability. We continue to be the most comprehensive strategy book on the market, with chapters ranging from corporate governance and social responsibility to competitive strategy, functional strategy, and strategic alliances.

  • Knowing that the plant parameters can vary within their lower and upper bounds, this parametric uncertainty is formulated as an additive perturbation in the transfer function matrix. It is important to note that the controller be designed with respect to worst case uncertainty for each λij. This can be achieved by performing an optimization procedure given by (61) for 200 frequencies. Here an element by element uncertainty bound model is used for the characterization of upper bound of the uncertainty matrix. Then wij , which satisfies (62) for each λij is given in matrix form as,...

  • and procedurally rational behavior. Among the limits to rationality are the fact that we can formulate, analyze, and interpret only a restricted amount of information; can devote only a limited amount of time to decision-making; and can become involved in many more activities than we can effectively consider and cope with simultaneously. We must therefore necessarily focus attention only on a portion of the major competing concerns.

  • MULTIOBJECTIVE CONTROL VIA DYNAMIC PARALLEL DISTRIBUTED COMPENSATION This chapter treats the multiobjective control synthesis problems w1 5x via the dynamic parallel distributed compensation ŽDPDC.. It is often the case in the practice of control engineering that a number of design objectives have to be achieved concurrently. The associated synthesis problems are formulated as linear matrix inequality ŽLMI. problems, that is, the parameters of the DPDC controllers are obtained from a set of LMI conditions....

  • Sources of Evidence: Clinical Trials and Registries The notion of learning from observation of patients is as old as medicine itself. Over the last 50 years, our understanding of how best to turn raw observation into useful evidence has evolved considerably. Case reports, personal anecdotal experience, and small single-center case series are now recognized as having severe limitations to validity and have no role in formulating modern standards of practice. The major tools used to develop reliable evidence consist of the randomized clinical trial and the large observational registry.

  • To provide appropriate health care to this group GPs and health professionals must be aware of the pre-migratory and ‘flight’ experiences. An understanding of the patients’ history is essential if an appropriate response is to be formulated. For example in the case of victims of torture, medical professionals need to develop the ability to recognise physical signs which would indicate that torture has occurred.

  • This chapter surveys off-line formulations of single and multiple change point estimation . Although the problem formulation yields algorithms that process data batch.wise, many important algorithms have natural on-line implementations and recursive approximations . This chapter is basically a projection of the more general results in Chapter 7 to the case of signal estimation . There are, however. some dedicated algorithms for estimating one change point offline that apply to the current case of a scalar signal model . In the literature of mathematical statistics.

No study has yet implicated thimerosal or the vaccines in which it has been used as a likely cause of these disorders; however, fully 50% of cases before the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program concern autism allegedly due to mercury.

  • This work is intended to survey the basic theory that underlies the multitude of parameter-rich models that dominate the hydrological literature today. It is concerned with the application of the equation of continuity (which is the fundamental theorem of hydrology) in its complete form combined with a simplified representation of the principle of conservation of momentum. Since the equation of continuity can be expressed in linear form by a suitable choice of state variables and is also parameterfree, it can be readily formulated at all scales of interest.

  • The basic theme of this paper is the fact that if A is a finite set of integers, then the sum and product sets cannot both be small. A precise formulation of this fact is Conjecture 1 below due to Erd˝s-Szemer´di [E-S]. (see also [El], [T], o e and [K-T] for related aspects.) Only much weaker results or very special cases of this conjecture are presently known. One approach consists of assuming the sum set A + A small and then deriving that the product set AA is large (using Freiman’s structure theorem) (cf. [N-T], [Na3]). We follow the...
