  • Composites are engineered or naturally occurring materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate and distinct within the finished structure. Basically, they can be categorized into two major types, i.e., structural composites with outstanding mechanical properties and functional composites with various outstanding physical, chemical or electrochemical properties. They have been widely used in a wide variety of products, e.g.

  • In the quest for knowledge, it is not uncommon for researchers to push the limits of simulation techniques to the point where they have to be adapted or totally new techniques or approaches become necessary. True multiscale modeling techniques are becoming increasingly necessary given the growing interest in materials and processes on which large-scale properties are dependent or that can be tuned by their low-scale properties. An example would be nanocomposites, where embedded nanostructures completely change the matrix properties due to effects occurring at the atomic level.

  • These unique characteristics plus the functionalities from the materials themselves impart nanofibers with a number of novel properties for applications in areas as various as biomedical engineering, wound healing, drug delivery and release control, catalyst and enzyme carriers, filtration, environment protection, composite reinforcement, sensors, optics, energy harvest and storage, and many others. More and more emphasis has recently been placed on large-scale nanofiber production, the key technology to the wide usages of nanofibers in practice....

  • Wastes are very process-specific but the key pollutants can be derived from knowledge of: the process, construction materials, corrosion / erosion mechanisms and maintenance materials. Waste audits are used to gather information on the source, composition, quantity and variability of all wastes. Waste prevention typically involves preventing the arising of waste at source, minimising the arisings and recycling any waste that is generated.

  • The electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method was adopted for a fabrication of nanocomposite layers composed of ZnO particles covered by the polythiopene shell in a reduced state. This composite was prepared by oxidative polymerization of thiophene monomer with iron (III) chloride as a catalyst in the presence of ZnO particles. After polymerization, polythiophene in oxidized form was reduced by the extraction in methanol. Electrochemical properties of the obtained composite were measured by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

  • At the present, in order to increase octan number the izomerization of hydrocarbon has been studied in the world. Amongs metals and metal oxides on carriers, Pt on the alumina carrier is used most widely owing to the advantages such as thermal stability, high activity and high selectivity etc. The conversion and selectivity of the izomerization depend on the catalysts (the composition of the catalysts, the structure of the carriers, the distribution of metal, the acidity, the catalytic activity of the catalysts) and the reaction condition (temperature, volume flow, carrier gases ...).
