  • Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two main periodontal diseases and may be present concurrently. Gingivitis is a form of periodontal disease in which gingival tissues are inflamed but their destruction is mild and reversible while periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory response to the subgingival bacteria with irreversible changes (Armitage, 1999). Periodontium destruction is characterized by loss of connective tissue attachment and bone around the teeth in conjunction with the formation of periodontal pockets due to apical migration of the junctional epithelium (Champagne et al.

  • Progress in modern science is impossible without reliable tools for characterization of structural, physical, and chemical properties of materials and devices at the micro-, nano-, and atomic scale levels. While structural information can be obtained by such established techniques as scanning and transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution examination of local electronic structure, electric potential and chemical functionality is a much more daunting problem.

  • Since then Dr. Hans Berger discovered the electrical properties of the brain, it was considered ability to communicate outside personswith device only through the use of the brain wave (Vidal, 1973). Brain computer interface technology is aimed at communicating with users outside computer equipment through electroencephalographic signals as the command source (Wolpaw, JR, et al, 2000), (Birbaumer, N, et al, 2000).

  • Approximately 860 utilities, or more than 25% of utilities nationally, offer green power programs to customers. These programs allow customers to purchase some portion of their power supply as renewable energy—almost always at a higher price—or to contribute funds for the utility to invest in renewable energy development, such as solar installations at local schools. The term “green pricing” is typically used to refer to these utility programs offered in regulated or noncompetitive electricity markets.

  • The invention of scanning tunneling microscope (STM) by Binnig and his colleagues in 1982 opened up the possibility of imaging material surfaces with spatial resolution much superior to the conventional microscopy techniques. The STM is the first instrument capable of directly obtaining three-dimensional images of solid surfaces with atomic resolution. Even though STM is capable of achieving atomic resolution, it can only be used on electrical conductors. This limitation has led to the invention of atomic force microscope (AFM) by Binnig and his co-workers in 1986.

  • In the summer of 1866, the author of this little book, moved by the repeated and earnest solicitation of his Medical Classes, prepared and printed a small pamphlet entitled Practical Principles of Medical Electricity, designed more particularly, as the present work also is, as a Hand-Book to assist the memory of those who have taken a regular course of LECTURES from himself, or from some other competent instructor in the same general system of Practice. The edition of that work was exhausted somewhat more than a year ago. Still, the book has continued to be frequently called for.

  • Waste incinerators fall somewhere between the two categories of incidental and deliberate emissions. Similar to a coal plant, they burn a feedstock — in this case garbage — and mercury is released as an incidental emission. The difference is that most of the incidental emissions from waste incinerators are a result of mercury that is deliberately put into products. These may include fluorescent lamps, old batteries, dental office waste, electrical switches or thermostats.

  • Originally, it was planned that there would be equal numbers of males and females and an equal number of students from the four faculties with the highest percentage of NESB students. However, as noted above, the opportunity to sit a free IELTS Test proved to be much more attractive to some students from some faculties than to others. There was no interest from students enrolled in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, and a great deal of interest from students enrolled in the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health.

  • The pervasive presence of electronic devices and instrumentation in all aspects of engineering design and analysis is one of the manifestations of the electronic revolution that has characterized the second half of the 20th century. Every aspect of engineering practice, and even of everyday life, has been affected in some way or another by electrical and electronic devices and instruments. Computers are perhaps the most obvious manifestations of this presence.

  • Advances in nanotechnology over the past decade have made scanning electron microscopy (SEM) an indispensable and powerful tool for analyzing and constructing new nanomaterials. Development of nanomaterials requires advanced techniques and skills to attain higher quality images, understand nanostructures, and improve synthesis strategies. A number of advancements in SEM such as field emission guns, electron back scatter detection (EBSD), and X-ray element mapping have improved nanomaterials analysis.

  • Sodium concentration in irrigation water replaces calcium by the process of Base Exchange, therefore reduces soil permeability. Furthermore, excess salinity in groundwater used for irrigation decreased plants osmotic activity and interfere water absorption and nutrients from the soil. Nearly 5% of groundwater from the study site exceeds the desirable limit (1000 mg L-1) of chloride. The natural source of chloride is due to the weathering of phosphate mineral apatite present in granites.

  • Numerous authors proposed chapters on their work, and those presented here are the fruit of those proposals. As editor of this book, it has been my pleasure to collaborate with these many, fine contributing scientists. This text brings forth a great amount of fresh information on the biogeography and ecology of poorly known taxa and landscapes, and explores biogeographic processes not previously studied. The assembled work is an anthology of issues in modern biogeography, with topics ranging across regional to global spatial scales, and ecological to evolutionary temporal scales.

  • The order of writing presented here highlights the importance of your results for defining the focus of your article. You should define the focus of your article based on the evidence you have. This way you can set the focus of your article relatively early and avoid unnecessary re-working when writing up the theory and other elements of the text. It is sensible to start writing an article by outlining the subject matter and content by a few bullet points or key words. This phase will act later as an aid in writing the introduction. After outlining the...
