  • It is shown that: (1) Let R be a simple right Noetherian ring, then the following conditions are equivalent: (i) R is a right SI ring; (ii) Every cyclic singular right R - module is pseudo - injective. (2) Let R be a right artinian ring such that every finite generated right R - module is a direct sum of a projective module and a pseudo - injective module. Then: (i) R/Soc(RR ) is a semisimple artinian ring; (ii) J (R) ⊂ Soc(RR ); (iii) J 2 (R) = 0. (3) Let R be a ring with condition (∗ ),...

  • The goal of this work is to give a precise numerical description of the K¨hler cone of a compact K¨hler manifold. Our main result states that the a a K¨hler cone depends only on the intersection form of the cohomology ring, the a Hodge structure and the homology classes of analytic cycles: if X is a compact K¨hler manifold, the K¨hler cone K of X is one of the connected components of a a the set P of real (1, 1)-cohomology classes {α} which are numerically positive on analytic cycles, i.e. Y αp 0 for every irreducible analytic...

  • As a solution to the problems encountered with DIRECT, Gamma employs what appear today to be relatively straightforward solutions. Architecturally, Gamma is based on a shared-nothing [STON86] architecture consisting of a number of processors interconnected by a communications network such as a hypercube or a ring, with disks directly connected to the individual processors. It is generally accepted that such architectures can be scaled to incorporate 1000s of processors.

  • A bacterial strain that grew on 4-amino-3-hydroxybenzoic acidwas isolated fromfarmsoil. The isolate, strain 10d, was identified as a species of Bordetella.CellextractsofBorde-tellasp. strain10dgrownon4-amino-3-hydroxybenzoicacid containedanenzyme that cleaved this substrate. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity with a 110-fold increase in specific activity. The purified enzyme was characterized as a meta-cleavage dioxygenase that catalyzed the ring fission betweenC2 andC3 of 4-amino-3-hydroxybenzoic acid, with the consumption of 1 mol of O2per mol of substrate....

  • Sulfur is the element with the largest number of solid allotropes. Most of these consist of unbranched cyclic molecules with ring sizes ranging from 6 to 20. In addition, polymeric allotropes are known which are believed to consist of chains in a random coil or helical conformation. Furthermore, several high-pressure allotropes have been characterized. In this chapter the preparation, crystal structures, physical properties and analysis of these allotropes are discussed.

  • In this paper we characterize irreducible generic representations of SO2n+1 (k) (where k is a p-adic field) by means of twisted local gamma factors (the Local Converse Theorem). As applications, we prove that two irreducible generic cuspidal automorphic representations of SO2n+1 (A) (where A is the ring of adeles of a number field) are equivalent if their local components are equivalent at almost all local places (the Rigidity Theorem); and prove the Local Langlands Reciprocity Conjecture for generic supercuspidal representations of SO2n+1 (k). ...

  • New enzymes of nicotine catabolism instrumental in the detoxification of the tobacco alkaloid by Arthrobacter nicotinovoranspAO1 have been iden-tified and characterized. Nicotine breakdown leads to the formation of nicotine blue from the hydroxylated pyridine ring and of c-N-methyl-aminobutyrate (CH3-4-aminobutyrate) from the pyrrolidine ring of the molecule.

  • The LmbB1 protein, participating in the biosynthesis of lincomycin, was heterologously expressed inEscherichia coli, purified in its active form, and characterized as a dimer of identical subunits. Methods for purification and analysis of the LmbB1 reaction product were developed. Molecular mass and fragmentation pattern of the product revealed by capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry were in agree-ment with its proposed structure, 4-(3-carboxy-3-oxo-propenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid.

  • A module M is called a uniform extending if every uniform submodule of M is essential in a direct summand of M . A module M is called a countably Σ− uniform extending if M (N) is uniform extending. In this paper, we discuss the question of when a countably Σ− uniform extending module is Σ− quasi - injective? We also characterize QF rings by the class of countably Σ− uniform extending modules.
