  • Since the middle of last century, the use of organic synthetic pesticides became a widespread practice, in order to better prevent, control and destroy pests. Despite their usefulness in the increment of food production, the extensive use of pesticides during production, processing, storage, transport or marketing of agricultural commodities can led to environmental contamination and to the presence of residues in food.

  • This second edition of Plant Drug Analysis includes more than 200 updated color photographs of superb quality demonstrating chromatograms of all relevant standard drugs. All drugs presented meet the standard of the official pharmacopoeia and originate from well-defined botanical sources. With this guide the technique of thin layer chromatography can be easily used without previous pharmacognostic training. Only commercially available equipment and reagents are needed, the sources as well as all practical details are given. ...

  • Gas chromatography has been and it still is, one of the key tools in analytical techniques in many of the advanced research carried out over the globe. This technique has contributed tremendously and was once the main technique in the analysis of specific compounds like volatile compounds, certain pesticides, pharmaceuticals and petroleum products. The advance of this technique has resulted in several tandem instruments with application of other techniques to enhance the results obtained by gas chromatography.

  • The Analytical Instrumentation Handbook serves as a guide for workers in analytical chemistry, who need a starting place for information about a specific instrumental technique, either as a basic introduction to it or as a means of finding leading references dealing with theory and methodology for an instrumental technique. The chapters which appeared in the second edition have been thoroughly expanded and updated, with concepts, applications, and key references to the recent literature.

  •  Matched against a wide range of spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, the techniques of electroanalytical chemistry find an important role for several reasons: – Electroanalytical methods are often specific for a particular oxidation state of an element – Electrochemical instrumentation is relatively inexpensive and can be miniaturized – Electroanalytical methods provide information about activities (rather than concentration)

  • Previous preparations of the Na + F1F0-ATP synthase solubilized by Triton X-100 lacked some of the membrane-embedded motor subunits [Reidlinger J&Mu¨ller V (1994) Eur J Biochem233, 275–283]. To improve the subunit recovery, we revised our purification protocol. The ATP synthase was solu-bilized with dodecylmaltoside and further purified to apparent homogeneity by chromatographic techniques.

  • Polymer micromolding is a common way to ma microchannels, because of the ease of processing, low co and bio-compatibility. Molds with micron-scale featur may be made from photosensitive polymers (e.g., SU-8) by DRIE silicon micromachining. Poly(dimethylsiloxan (PDMS) is often chosen as the microstructural materi [15]. PDMS is spin cast onto the mold, cured and peel off. A short exposure in an oxygen plasma activates t PDMS surface and results in instant bonding to oth PDMS or glass surfaces.

  • Petroleum mixtures consist primarily of relatively unreactive complex hydrocarbons covering a wide boiling range. Such mixtures are difficult to separate by most analytical techniques. Therefore, the petroleum industry has for many years played a leading role in the development of chromatographic methods of analysis. Since the last book specifically concerned with chromatographic analysis of petroleum appeared 15 years ago, numerous advances have been made including developments in liquid and supercritical fluid chromatography, ...

  • Porcine heart cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (s-MDH) is a dimeric protein (2 · 35 kDa). We have studied equilibrium unfolding and refolding of s-MDH using activity assay, fluorescence, far-UV and near-UV circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, hydrophobic probe-1-anilino8-napthalene sulfonic acid binding, dynamic light scattering, and chromatographic (HPLC) techniques. The unfolding and refolding transitions are reversible and show the presence of two equilibrium intermediate states.
