  • Chronic venous disease of the lower limbs is manifested by a range of signs, the most obvious of which are varicose veins and venous ulcers. However, the signs also include edema, venous eczema, hyperpigmentation of skin of the ankle, atrophie blanche (white scar tissue), and lipodermatosclerosis (induration caused by fibrosis of the subcutaneous fat) (Fig. 1). • Clinical Presentation Symptoms The clinical onset of the chronic phase is generally insidious. Accordingly, some patients are diagnosed while still asymptomatic, during health-screening tests; other patients present with fatigue, malaise, and weight loss or have symptoms resulting from splenic enlargement, such as early satiety and left upper quadrant pain or mass. Less common are features related to granulocyte or platelet dysfunction, such as infections, thrombosis, or bleeding.

The aim of exercise tests is to stress the whole cardiopulmonary system and estimate the physiological reserve that may be available after lung resection. The most used and best validated exercise parameter is V’O2, max.

  • The previous WHO guidelines were established for 15 minutes to protect against short-term peak exposures that might occur from, for example, an un- vented stove; for 1 hour to protect against excess exposure from, for example, faulty appliances; and for 8 hours (which is relevant to occupational exposures and has been used as an averaging time for ambient exposures). We do not rec- ommend changing the existing guidelines. However, chronic carbon monoxide exposure appears different from acute exposure in several important respects.

  • One authorized urologist (M.M.) performed all the operations. We used a standard TURP setup with an irrigation pressure of 80 cmH2O and an irrigation rate of 250 ml/min using D-sorbitol solution. After a rough resection of almost all the transition and central zone, we tried to resect and fulgurate the peripheral zone as completely as possible, especially where cancer was detected by biopsy. The resection was continued until adipose tissue, venous sinus or the external sphincter was identified.

  • Overall welfare effects are slightly positive for the EU-27. Whereas total agricultural income would decline due to lower milk prices on average, the EU dairy industry would benefit as prices of dairy products are expected to decline less than raw milk prices (i.e. input costs decreasing more than revenues). Impacts on the FEOGA budget would arise mainly from additional export subsidies for butter and moderate losses of tariff revenues.

  • Information about the localization of cancer from biopsy specimens is very helpful to plan the manner of resection. Although an experienced resectionist can remove almost all prostate tissues transurethrally, aggressive resection can be applied where the cancer was detected by biopsy to achieve the radicality of the operation. Erectile function was preserved in about 60% of the patients in the present study. Preservation of the cavernous nerve can be achieved by leaving some prostate tissue not to be resected around the 4 or 8 o’clock position not to injure the nerve.

Internal mutualistic organisms are critical to the survival of the host, such as symbionts, which are found in mycetocytes and mycetomes of many invertebrate species. Although mutualistic organisms such as the protists associated with termites may be abundant in their insect hosts, they are not by definition pathogenic to the host insect.
