This book gives an account of the modern view of the global circulation of the atmosphere. It brings the observed nature of the circulation together with theories and simple models of the mechanisms which drive it. Early chapters concentrate on the classical view of the global circulation, on the processes which generate atmospheric motions and on the dynamical constraints which modify them. Later chapters develop more recent themes including low frequency variability and the circulation of other planetary atmospheres....
‘Climate models’ is a very broad topic, so a single volume can only offer a small
sampling of relevant research activities. This volume of 14 chapters includes
descriptions of a variety of modeling studies for a variety of geographic regions by an
international roster of authors.
The climate research community generally uses the rubric ‘climate models’ to refer to
organized sets of computer instructions that produce simulations of climate evolution.

Any study forecasting conditions four decades

To assess the explanatory power of a trust-based explanation, we start by
modeling the impact of trust on portfolio decisions. Not only does the model
provide testable implications, but it also gives us a sense of the economic im-
portance of this phenomenon. In the absence of any cost of participation, a low
level of trust can explain why a large fraction of individuals do not invest in
the stock market. In addition, the model shows that lack of trust amplifies the
effect of costly participation.
Examples of duct dependent circulations include critical coarctation of the aorta (duct
dependent systemic circulation) or pulmonary atresia (duct dependent pulmonary
circulation). In critical coarctation there is extreme narrowing of the aorta just where
the arterial duct joins the aorta, and blood supply to the lower half of the body is only
possible if it passes from the pulmonary artery to the descending aorta via the duct. In
pulmonary atresia, the only blood supply to the lungs is that which passes from the

Background: A major cause of osteonecrosis of the femoral head is interruption of a blood supply to the proximal femur.
This is the first of two reports that address the complex issue of incorporating the needs of climate research
into the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). NPOESS, which has
been driven by the imperative of reliably providing short-term weather information, is itself a union of heretofore
separate civilian and military programs. It is a marriage of convenience to eliminate needless duplication and
reduce cost, one that appears to be working.
Mixed layers grew to depths of 2,500 to 4,000 meters, with a rapid period of growth
beginning shortly before noon and lasting for several hours. Significant differences between the
mixed-layer temperatures in the basin and outside the basin were observed. Data analyses and models
