  • With globalisation and knowledge-based production, firms may cooperate on a global scale, outsource parts of their administrative or productive units and negate location altogether. The extremely low transaction costs of data, information and knowledge seem to invalidate the theory of agglomeration and the spatial clustering of firms, going back to the classical work by Alfred Weber (1868-1958) and Alfred Marshall (1842-1924), who emphasized the microeconomic benefits of industrial collocation.

  • Vietnam is embarking on a path towards a knowledge-based economy in which the emergence of knowledge clusters in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta are playing a decisive role. As our paper suggests, clustering appears to have a positive effect not only on the increase of knowledge output, but also on the economic growth of these regions. Using a GIS-based mapping method, we can identify two major knowledge clusters – Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City.

  • The Need for Gateway Clusters Gateways and VPN connections are business critical devices. The failure of a Security Gateway or VPN connection can result in the loss of active connections and access to critical data. The gateway between the organization and the world must remain open under all circumstances. ClusterXL Gateway Cluster Solution A ClusterXL cluster is a group of identical Check Point Security Gateways connected in such a way that if one fails, another immediately takes its place.

  • In this paper, we present a stochastic language model for Japanese using dependency. The prediction unit in this model is all attribute of "bunsetsu". This is represented by the product of the head of content words and that of function words. The relation between the attributes of "bunsetsu" is ruled by a context-free grammar. The word sequences axe predicted from the attribute using word n-gram model. The spell of U n k n o w word is predicted using character n-grain model.

  • The use of ethanol for fuel was widespread in Europe and the United States until the early 1900s (Illinois Corn Growers’ Association/Illinois Corn Marketing Board). Because it became more expensive to produce than petroleum-based fuel, especially after World War II, ethanol’s potential was largely ignored until the Arab oil embargo of the 1970s. One response to the embargo was increased use of the fuel extender “gasohol ” (or E-10), a mixture of one part ethanol made from corn mixed with nine parts gasoline.

  • Parallel Programming: for Multicore and Cluster Systems- P1: Innovations in hardware architecture, like hyper-threading or multicore processors, mean that parallel computing resources are available for inexpensive desktop computers. In only a few years, many standard software products will be based on concepts of parallel programming implemented on such hardware, and the range of applications will be much broader than that of scientific computing, up to now the main application area for parallel computing....

  • Picocyanobacteria are a diverse and widespread group of photosynthetic prokaryotes and belong to the main group of primary producers (Castenholz & Waterbury. 1989; Rippka, 1988). Picoeukaryotes, meanwhile, are a diverse group that is widely distributed in the marine environment, and they have a fundamental role in aquatic ecosystems because of their high productivity. Like bacteria, marine viruses are thought to play important roles in global and small-scale biogeochemical cycling.

  • PUBLIC GOODS, PRIVATE INCENTIVES, AND AGRICULTURAL R&D: PRODUCTIVITY AND POVERTY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRY AGRICULTURE Like Baker, McMillan, and Reuben (2002), I identify parental valuations by the location of clusters of high income families: If parental preferences over communities depend exclusively on the effectiveness of the local schools, the most desirable—and therefore wealthiest—communities are necessarily those with the most effective schools.

  • Over the past few years, there has been a fundamental shift in data storage, management, and processing. Companies are storing more data from more sources in more formats than ever before. This isn’t just about being a “data packrat” but rather building products, features, and intelligence predicated on knowing more about the world (where the world can be users, searches, machine logs, or whatever is relevant to an organization).

  • In the first workshop, the experts pointed out thematic clusters for future research according to their opinion and experience. These clusters were defined in a guided brainstorming process. References to existing and past research programmes and initiatives were minimised to ensure a creative approach to the topic. The resulting thematic landscape of research issues, which included a broad range of topics from e.g. functional food over the generation of new raw material to traceability and labelling systems, was subsequently checked for comprehensiveness and put into a logical order.

  • As shown in Table 2, the area of agricultural land worldwide is larger than that of forests (FAOSTAT Resources 2009). Furthermore, non-wood fibres usually have high annual biomass yields per hectare which are equal or superior to that of woods (Pierce 1991). Approximately 30% of the forest area is used primarily for the production of wood. An additional 24% of the forest area is designated for multiple uses, which also includes the production of wood in most cases (FAO 2010).
