Mathematical modelling is the process of formulating an abstract model
in terms of mathematical language to describe the complex behaviour of
a real system. Mathematical models are quantitative models and often
expressed in terms of ordinary differential equations and partial differential
equations. Mathematical models can also be statistical models,
fuzzy logic models and empirical relationships. In fact, any model description
using mathematical language can be called a mathematical
Design by Eunny Jang A lace stole, worked in two variants of the ancient “Print O’ The Wave” Shetland lace pattern. Light enough to shiver and float in a draft, this stole can be worn as a sheer, delicate wrap (pictured), or doubled as a short scarf. Knit in cobweb weight yarn and US00 needles for the light wrap shown, or in lace weight and US4 needles for a slightly sturdier, larger shawl.
Mathematical Modeling I – preliminary is designed for undergraduate students. Two other followup
books, Mathematical Modeling II – advanced and Mathematical Modeling III – case studies in biology,
will be published. II and III will be designed for both graduate students and undergraduate students.
All the three books are independent and useful for study and application of mathematical modeling in
All around the cluttered cloisters, musty rooms and high, vaulted halls
there was a deep and tangible hush. The only light in the virtually impenetrable
gloom was of a peculiarly pellucid green, spilling out feebly
from every heavy wooden door and misaligned stone. Everywhere, there
was a terrible sense of stagnancy, imbuing the whole place with a fetid,
neglected atmosphere, as though some great cathedral had been flooded
by a brackish lagoon.
From out of the cobwebbed shadows emerged a little group of very
old men, resplendent in their ornately decorated robes...
No windows broke the four plain walls of the office; no sunlight shone
on the desk there. Yet the five disks set out on its surface appeared to
glow—perhaps the heat of the mischief they could cause… had caused…
blazed in them.
But fanciful imaginings did not change cold, hard fact. Dr. Gordon
Ashe, one of the four men peering unhappily at the display, shook his
head slightly as if to free his mind of such cobwebs.
His neighbor to the right, Colonel Kelgarries, leaned forward to ask
harshly: "No chance of a mistake?"
"You saw the detector.
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN FASCINATED By spiders. I used to collect them when I was younger. I'd spend hours rooting through the dusty old shed at the bottom of our garden, hunting the cobwebs for lurking eight-legged predators.
