  • HUMAN CAPITAL INVESTMENT BY PRIVATE EMPLOYERS IN BLAIR COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AS MEASURED A one standard deviation (0.28) increase in the choice index corresponds with a reduction in mean scores of only about four points, about one-eighth of an MSA-level standard deviation. Moreover, in some alternative specifications not reported here, the coefficient estimate is statistically insignificant, though still negative.

  • Effect of wollastonite nanofibers on the improvement of thermal conductivity coefficient of Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) was studied here to find a possible solution to decrease hot-press time as a bottle-neck during composite production. Nanowollastonite was applied at 10%, based on the dry weight of wood fibers. Density of the control MDF boards was 0.66 g/cm3. Thermal conductivity coefficient was measured using an apparatus based on Fourier’s Law for heat conduction.

  • A web search with double checking model is proposed to explore the web as a live corpus. Five association measures including variants of Dice, Overlap Ratio, Jaccard, and Cosine, as well as CoOccurrence Double Check (CODC), are presented. In the experiments on Rubenstein-Goodenough’s benchmark data set, the CODC measure achieves correlation coefficient 0.8492, which competes with the performance (0.8914) of the model using WordNet.

  • The aim of this primer is to provide the reader with a self-contained, introductory account of the science of electrochemistry. It seeks to explain the origin of electrode potentials, show their link with chemical thermodynamics and to indicate why their measurement is important in chemistry. In so doing some ideas about solution non-ideality and how ions move in solution are helpful, and essential diversions into these topics are made in Chapters 2 and 3

  • ARE BANK LOAN RATINGS RELEVANT? Moreover, the coefficient on the background index across MSAs—1.58 in Column C, and slightly higher in later columns—is nearly identical to that found within MSAs (Table 1.4, Column A). This is consistent with the claim that both coefficients measure primarily the peer effect (γ ), which might be the same across MSAs as within, rather than effectiveness sorting (θ ), which we would expect to see within but not across MSAs.

  • The Texas Instrument TMS320VC5510 DSK’s calculation abilitiy with different program languages is investigated for minimum the DSP’s measurement time. The steps of Monte Carlo simulations embedded into the DSK’s flash through the DSK’s JTAG interface for optical parameters measurement including absorption coefficient µ a , scattering coefficient µ s and anisotropy g are presented. The obtained results for diluted milk standard samples are also reported.

  • Instead of making the common assumptions that employers only consider the productivity of employees, that workers ignore the characteristics of those with whom they work, and that customers only care about the quali- ties of the goods and services provided, discrimination coefficients incorpo- rate the influence of race, gender, and other personal characteristics on tastes and attitudes. Employees may refuse to work under a woman or a black even when they are well paid to do so, or a customer may prefer not to deal with a black car salesman.

  • The second question requires that we build an understanding of how the policy instrument effects production and productive efficiency. Our approach is similar to recent stochastic frontier analyses with panel data (Cornwell et al. (1990), Kumbhakar (1990)), which allow intercepts and some coefficients of the production function to vary between firms and over time.

  • Third, not only are the coefficients measuring the effect of pollution larger for low SES children, but these children are also exposed to considerably higher levels of pollution. As a result, they suffer greater harm from pollution, and higher pollution levels explain roughly 4% of the gap in asthma rates.

  • This book is about the evolution of self-help movement organizations in the United States. The dramatic rise and ubiquity of self-help during the mid- to late twentieth century positions it high among other healthcare institutions such as drug rehabilitation, the health maintenance organization (HMO), and patient rights as an integral part of the landscape marking our daily lives.

  • COMPETITIVE SUPPLY CHAIN AND REVENUE MANAGEMENT: FOUR ESSAYS When the peer group measure is interacted with the choice index—in Column B, and again with additional controls in the remaining columns—the coefficient is indistinguishable from zero, with a negative point estimate in every specification. Panel B repeats this analysis, this time with the score earned by students when they were in the 12th grade.51 Again, estimates of the choice effect are imprecise but are—with one statistically insignificant exception—of the opposite sign from that predicted by the economic model....

  • Non-Electric Thermometers 2.1 Liquid-in-Glass Thermometers Liquid-in-glass thermometers are based upon the temperature dependent variation of the volume of the liquid which is used . The thermometer consists of a liquid filled bulb connected to a thin capillary with a temperature scale as shown in Figure 2.1 . Assuming that the bulk volume, Vb, is much greater than that of the liquid contained in the capillary, the volume variation, AV, of the liquid corresponding to the measured temperature variation, d6, is: AV = V/3.;AO (2.
