Tờ International Herald Tribune viết: “Bienvenue, or make
that welcome, to the shifting universe of academia, where English is becoming as
commonplace as creeping ivy and mortarboards”.
I have written this book to support the HR professional who is
in dedicated pursuit of recruitment excellence. By definition, mediocrity
is the norm. The word mediocre is derived from the Latin
word mediocris meaning ‘‘middle.’’ Those who pursue excellence
are not satisfied with the middle. They are dedicated to rising
above the commonplace to soar with eagles.
Life is full of mysteries that, when uncovered, turn out to be neither sinister nor complex.
Generally they fall into the “Now, why didn’t I think of that” category, once their
truth has been discovered they often become commonplace, taken for granted. The
Wright brothers uncovered some such mysteries, as did Leonardo da Vinci and countless
other philosophers, scientists, and average people who simply figured things out
Over the last ten years, the impact of wireless communications on
the way we live and do business has been surpassed only by the impact
of the Internet. Cell phones, pagers, and wireless Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs) have become so commonplace in our lives that it is
easy to forget that ten years ago, they were a rarity.

A Gradual Shift
• PriceWaterhouseCoopers 2002 Sustainability Survey Report – 140 U.S. companies – 70 percent had no broad-based sustainability program in place yet. – 69% were reviewing or revising ethics programs or their corporate-governance process.
To successfully execute an attack against an organization, the attacker must first perform
reconnaissance to gather as much intelligence about the organization as possible.
Many traditional methods for gaining intelligence about targets still work today, such
as dumpster diving, querying public databases, and querying search engines. However,
new methods that rely on gathering information from technologies such as social networking
applications are becoming more commonplace.
The detection of pharmaceutical residues remained elusive until instruments such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry became commonplace in environmental laboratories. The documentation of the occurrence of pharmaceutical residues and endocrine disrupting chemicals in water resources has raused questions about their long-term effects in the ecosystem and their potential effects on human health.
This book provides a comprehensive guide for surveyors and architects on the
steps to take when approached by a client asking for a structural survey. It deals
with all types of buildings: domestic, commercial and industrial. Advice is given
on how to diagnose faults, with many detailed sketches and photographs to illus-
trate the text. Examples of various types of reports are given in the appendices.
We are living in an era of change. Adaptation of buildings for different uses and
extensions to existing buildings are commonplace.
Over the last two decades, we have witnessed an explosive growth in both the diversity of
techniques and the range of applications of image processing. However, the area of color
image processing is still sporadically covered, despite having become commonplace, with
consumers choosing the convenience of color imaging over traditional grayscale imaging.
Adobe Photoshop is one of the most important computer programs of
our age. It’s made photo editing a commonplace thing, something for
the everyperson. Still, Photoshop can be a scary thing (especially that first
purchase price!), comprising a jungle of menus and panels and tools and
options and shortcuts as well as a bewildering array of add-ons and plug-ins.
And that’s why you’re holding this book in your hands. And why I wrote it.
And why Wiley published it.
"Energy for a Warming World" challenges the commonplace notion that the amount of power which mankind can potentially harness from renewable resources is more than large enough to assuage future demand levels. By examining the renewable issue from an electrical engineering perspective, and exercising due regard for the limited capability of current and future electrical generation and transmission systems, this book attempts to provide more realistic statistics for the levels of power which could be extracted from sustainable resources in the critical time frame of 30 to 40 years....
This book is now in its fifth edition. Each edition has corresponded to a different
phase in the way computer networks were used. When the first edition appeared
in 1980, networks were an academic curiosity. When the second edition
appeared in 1988, networks were used by universities and large businesses. When
the third edition appeared in 1996, computer networks, especially the Internet, had
become a daily reality for millions of people. By the fourth edition, in 2003, wireless
networks and mobile computers had become commonplace for accessing the
Web and the Internet.
With the advent of powerful computers, the use of mathemmatical models by mathemmaticians,scri-entists,engineers,and researcher has become commonplace.Mathematical models are used for analysis, design, and to predict the behavior of complex
These common features provide a unifying framework the systematic and uniform treatment of diverse subject matter which may appear unrelated.
We wrote the first edition of this textbook more than ten years ago. The intervening years
have been a period of rapid and profound change in the investments industry. This is due in
part to an abundance of newly designed securities, in part to the creation of new trading
strategies that would have been impossible without concurrent advances in computer technology,
and in part to rapid advances in the theory of investments that have come out of the
Oracle system performance inefficiencies often go undetected for months or even years--even under intense scrutiny--because traditional Oracle performance analysis methods and tools are fundamentally flawed. They're unreliable and inefficient.
Oracle DBAs and developers are all too familiar with the outlay of time and resources, blown budgets, missed deadlines, and marginally effective performance fiddling that is commonplace with traditional methods of Oracle performance tuning.
In submitting this little book the author does not attempt to edit a history of the rebellion, nor does he assume
to be correct in the date of events to a day. He does not hope or expect to make a hero of himself by writing it,
for he was far from doing anything heroic, believing, as he does, that most of the heroes of the war were
killed. Perhaps the WRITING of this book may stamp him a hero, and for his audacity in so doing some one
may kill him. But he intends to clothe his little work in homely, rugged, commonplace...
This short book is about conserving insects, the most diverse and abundant
animals that share our world. In particular, it is about the common
focus of conserving individual species of insects. This so-called ‘fine filter’
(or ‘fine grain’) level of conservation parallels much conservation effort
for better-understood groups of animals such as mammals and birds,
for which species-focused conservation exercises are commonplace.
We Americans devour eagerly any piece of writing that purports to tell us the secret of success in life; yet how
often we are disappointed to find nothing but commonplace statements, or receipts that we know by heart but
never follow. Most of the life stories of our famous and successful men fail to inspire because they lack the
human element that makes the record real and brings the story within our grasp. While we are searching far
and near for some Aladdin's Lamp to give coveted fortune, there is ready at our hand if we will only reach out
and take it, like the...
Long before basketball went worldwide and names like Dirk, Yao, Nash, and Manu
became commonplace, Giorgio Gandolfi was building bridges between hoopsloving
people on different continents. This rich treasury of offensive basketball
wisdom is essential for the library of all coaches and players who want to maximize
their understanding of this beguiling game.
