Mental health specialists were grappling with ways to broaden the application of mental health principles in community settings to reduce the prevalence of mental health disorders, and to develop strategies to intervene with the mental health, learning, and behavioral problems of the general population.

  • This book, as the synopsis says, contains over 700 verbs with over 1000 meanings. But I think this a weakness rather than a strength. Firstly, the phrasal verbs are grouped 16 to a page with one exercise per verb. The exercise is either a gap-fill, a multiple-choice or matching two parts of a dialogue. In itself this is not exactly imaginative, but the important fact is that it is impossible for a person learning English to assimmilate – much less activate – phrasal verbs in this way.

Often this has been legitimated as a reaction to the increasingly deregulated free market environment brought into being as a consequence of globalisation.

  • Company culture underpins a person’s acceptability and shared values. Such values have an impact on the work of Human Resource managers involved in the recruitment, selection, and especially the retention of staff. There is a link too to allocating training opportunities to those in favour within an organisation. A key concern must surely be retention of valued staff. Thus an ‘aesthetic’ employee is perceived, perhaps through behaviour, as talented, valued and beautiful, though probably not in a physical sense.
