  • 4.2.3 MTMF MTMF combines the best parts of the Linear Spectral Mixing model and the statistical Matched Filter model while avoiding the drawbacks of each parent method (Boardman, 1998). It is a useful Matched Filter method without knowing all the possible endmembers in a landscape especially in case of subtle, sub-pixel occurrences. Firstly, pixel spectra and endmember spectra require a minimum noise fraction (MNF) (Green et al., 1988, Boardman, 1993) transformation. MNF reduces and separates an image into its most dimensional and non-noisy components.

  • In the book "Chemometrics in practical applications", various practical applications of chemometric methods in chemistry, biochemistry and chemical technology are presented, and selected chemometric methods are described in tutorial style. The book contains 14 independent chapters and is devoted to filling the gap between textbooks on multivariate data analysis and research journals on chemometrics and chemoinformatics.

  • The sub-series Ternary Alloy Systems of the Landolt-Börnstein New Series provides reliable and comprehensive descriptions of the materials constitution, based on critical intellectual evaluations of all data available at the time and it critically weights the different findings, also with respect to their compatibility with today’s edge binary phase diagrams. Selected are ternary systems of importance to alloy development and systems which gained in the recent years otherwise scientific interest.

  • In this paper, a new language model, the Multi-Class Composite N-gram, is proposed to avoid a data sparseness problem for spoken language in that it is difficult to collect training data. The Multi-Class Composite N-gram maintains an accurate word prediction capability and reliability for sparse data with a compact model size based on multiple word clusters, called MultiClasses. In the Multi-Class, the statistical connectivity at each position of the N-grams is regarded as word attributes, and one word cluster each is created to represent the positional attributes. ...

Readers must verify the technical data and economic figures with their own suppliers of raw materials or parts, and other current technical and economic sources. Prototypes and tests under operating conditions are essential.

  • The study of food and nutrition covers many disciplines including agriculture, biology, physics, chemistry, food technology, nutrition, and medicine. As research of the links between food and health continues to expand, it is more important than ever that specialists in such areas as food processing and nutrition be familiar with often unfamiliar terminology that differing disciplines use.

  • Shortly after my arrival at the OECD in 1996, I came upon the study by Angus Maddison “Monitoring the World Economy 1820–1992”. It is a fascinating and stimulating work providing a complete coverage of the world economy during the period in question. It brought together data of some 56 countries accounting for 93 per cent of the world output and 87 per cent of the world population and world exports. It never left my desk. Probably I was not alone in my appreciation of this quite extraordinary work, as I kept coming on references to it in the work of other authors....

  • The data we use to address these questions are taken from a large-scale matched worker-firm data set for Germany, the IAB Linked Employer-Employee data set (LIAB). This data set links the IAB-Establishment Panel with individual data for the entire population of workers from the Employment Statistics Register. Due to its administrative nature, one of the major advantages of this data set is that it offers very reliable information on individual daily wages inclusive of supplemental pay as long as such pay is subject to social security contributions.

  • Empirical evidence regarding international relative prices at the consumer level suggests that arbitrage in international markets is not rapid and that these markets are highly segmented. In fact, even markets for traded goods appear to be highly segmented internationally: In the data, both real exchange rate movements and deviations from the law of one price for traded goods are large and persistent.

  • A sequential explanatory mixed methods approach was chosen for this study as the intention was to use the qualitative results to ‘assist in explaining and interpreting the findings of a primarily quantitative study’ (Cresswell, 2003, p 215). Scores from a current IELTS Test (Test 2) and an earlier one (Test 1) provided quantitative data for analysis. Interviews were conducted after Test 2 with almost all of the participants. A combination of both quantitative and qualitative approaches such as this is justified by many researchers in human research.

  • Optical communication is very much useful in telecommunication systems, data processing and networking. It consists of a transmitter that encodes a message into an optical signal, a channel that carries the signal to its desired destination, and a receiver that reproduces the message from the received optical signal. It presents up to date results on communication systems, along with the explanations of their relevance, from leading researchers in this field.

  • Neither source of performance is particularly correlated with the four Fama-French benchmarks, indicating that the private skills identified by these predictability-based strategies are based on characteristics of funds that are heretofore undocumented by the mutual fund literature. The remainder of this paper proceeds as follows. Section 2 sets forth an econometric framework for studying investments in mutual funds when business cycle variables may predict future returns. Section 3 describes the data used in the empirical analysis, and Section 4 presents the findings.

  • The European Union has developed the draft of a “Working document on sludge” (EU 2000), to promote the use of sewage sludge in agriculture while improving the safety and harmonize quality standards. It proposes limit values for concentrations of heavy metals and organic compounds that should restrict the use of sewage sludge in agriculture if the limits are exceeded and provides suggestions for good practice in treatment and agricultural use.
