  • Texture, nutritive values and volatile compounds of Lentinula edodes, Pleurotus ostraetus and Pleroutus sajor-caju mushrooms were determined. The volatiles have been found out with an estimation approach by carrying out gas chromatography and mass spectrophotometer (GS–MS) Library Catalogue comparison. Neither regular increase nor decreases were observed for the values of texture, moisture, ash and protein values of L. eddoes.

  • In this article, compound processing for translation into German in a factored statistical MT system is investigated. Compounds are handled by splitting them prior to training, and merging the parts after translation. I have explored eight merging strategies using different combinations of external knowledge sources, such as word lists, and internal sources that are carried through the translation process, such as symbols or parts-of-speech. I show that for merging to be successful, some internal knowledge source is needed.

  • Translating compounds is an important problem in machine translation. Since many compounds have not been observed during training, they pose a challenge for translation systems. Previous decompounding methods have often been restricted to a small set of languages as they cannot deal with more complex compound forming processes.   • We present an algorithm for automatically disambiguating noun-noun compounds by deducing the correct semantic relation between their constituent words. This algorithm uses a corpus of 2,500 compounds annotated with WordNet senses and covering 139 different semantic relations (we make this corpus available online for researchers interested in the semantics of noun-noun compounds). The algorithm takes as input the WordNet senses for the nouns in a compound, finds all parent senses (hypernyms) of those senses, and searches the corpus for other compounds containing any pair of those senses.

  • There is little consensus on a standard experimental design for the compound interpretation task. This paper introduces wellmotivated general desiderata for semantic annotation schemes, and describes such a scheme for in-context compound annotation accompanied by detailed publicly available guidelines. Classification experiments on an open-text dataset compare favourably with previously reported results and provide a solid baseline for future research.

  • During the last decades, dozens of compounds have been isolated from Mallotus apelta. These compounds which are classified under the categories viz. terpenoids, steroids, flavonoids, cumarino-lignoids, cembrane diterpenoids, and benzopyranoids. They were known to exhibit interesting biological activities. The phytochemical investigations revealed that malloapelta B which was the major component of M. apelta, showed strong NF-B and NFAT transcription factor inhibitory and cytotoxic activities.   • Angelica sinensis (OLiv.) Diels ("Danggui") belongs to the family Umbelliferae. Its rhizomes are reputed to have marked restorative, antianaemic and haemagogic properties. From ethyl acetate and butanol extracts of rhizomes of this plant 8 nitrogen-containing compounds (1-8) have been isolated. Their structures were elucidated by means of MS and NMR spectroscopic methods as 5-oxo-proline, 5-oxo-prolin-ethylester, nicotinamide, tryptophane, perlolidine, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-methyl- -carboline-3-carboxylic acide, adenosine and uridine.

  • The effect of some organic compounds on the activity of chitinase from Serratia marcescens has been investigated. Among these compounds, 1,10-phenanthroline was found to be an inhibitor and ethanol - an activator of the chitinase activity; -’ dipyridyl and Zn2+ do not take any effect on the chitinase activity. In this investigation, the dissociation constant of an chitinase-metalic ion complex (K1) and the inhibition constant (K2) have been estimated with K1 = 0.1 mcM and K2 = 2.667 mM.

  • The automatic interpretation of noun-noun compounds is an important subproblem within many natural language processing applications and is an area of increasing interest. The problem is difficult, with disagreement regarding the number and nature of the relations, low inter-annotator agreement, and limited annotated data. In this paper, we present a novel taxonomy of relations that integrates previous relations, the largest publicly-available annotated dataset, and a supervised classification method for automatic noun compound interpretation.

  • We propose a novel method for automatically interpreting compound nouns based on a predefined set of semantic relations. First we map verb tokens in sentential contexts to a fixed set of seed verbs using WordNet::Similarity and Moby’s Thesaurus. We then match the sentences with semantic relations based on the semantics of the seed verbs and grammatical roles of the head noun and modifier. Based on the semantics of the matched sentences, we then build a classifier using TiMBL.

  • This paper proposes a principled approach for analysis of semantic relations between constituents in compound nouns based on lexical semantic structure. One of the difficulties of compound noun analysis is that the mechanisms governing the decision system of semantic relations and the representation method of semantic relations associated with lexical and contextual meaning are not obvious.

  • This paper describes research toward the automatic interpretation of compound nouns using corpus statistics. An initial study aimed at syntactic disambiguation is presented. The approach presented bases associations upon thesaurus categories. Association data is gathered from unambiguous cases extracted from a corpus and is then applied to the analysis of ambiguous compound nouns. While the work presented is still in progress, a first attempt to syntactically analyse a test set of 244 examples shows 75% correctness.
