With the desire to embrace diverse styles of cuisine, LEYE developed a variety of concepts including seafood house, Shaw’s Crab House/Blue Crab Lounge (1984-85), Spanish tapas restaurant Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! (1986), upscale dining at Everest (1986) and innovative Mexican creations at Hat Dance (1988). LEYE’s fast growing Italian Division has also experienced great success with establishments such as Tucci Benucch (1988), its city cousin Tucci Milan (1989) and the southern Italian trattoria, Scoozi! • Almost half of the patients experience arthritis in the hips or the shoulders. Up to 30% of the patients suffer from small joint involvement with swelling, pain and stiffness in the inflamed joints. Often these appear as asymmetrical oligoarthritis. Usually they are non- erosive, but deformity and consequently destruction of the hips have been seen. An early involvement of peripheral joints can be an indicator of a more aggressive progress. Peripheral joint involvement can occur at any stage of the disease (Sieper J, Braun J, Rudwaleit M, Boonen A, Zink A) (Gladman DD). ...

  • Plunkett et al. (2002) performed another study in Chicago, and included African-Americans, Hispanics, and individuals with varied levels of education. Less than one-half of the women (42%) considered OB/GYN gender as important. When seeing an obstetrician, bedside manner, office location, referral by another physician, and recommendations from friends and family were the four factors considered most important at 57%, 45%, 40% and 35%, respectively.

  • The insurance industry is quite heterogeneous and the structure of the sector varies according to the prevailing level of economic development. 6 In fact, developed countries’ insurance sectors usually include life insurers, non-life insurers and reinsurers. These companies may be stand-alone enterprises or parts of groups or conglomerates, and they may conduct business internationally. Developing countries’ insurance providers, in turn, are smaller and generally do not engage in major international activities.

  • There is no doubt that the protection of women during pregnancy and lactation must be one of the major priorities of health systems and social policies. The effect of women’s nutritional status on pregnancy outcomes is particularly strong, and adequate maternal nutrition is closely related to the survival and well-being of babies and children. However, not all women are mothers, and their nutritional and health needs go far beyond motherhood and reproduction. Women of all ages in developing countries face elevated risks of nutritional deficiencies.

  • Early researchers in the field played down individual personality disturbances as causal agents of family violence in favour of social and cultural factors (27). More recently, though, research on family violence has shown that abusers who are physically aggressive are more likely to have personality disorders and alcohol-related problems than the general population (28).

  • There are also marked differences between retailers in terms of their pricing policies. These differences do not only relate to the general price level but also to whether a retailer predominantly pursues permanent pricing policies, or whether high prices alternate with low-price promotions. This latter strategy was an adequate tool in times of relatively high inflation and a subsequent lack of market transparency in order to attract customers.

  • According to Bonfand, it is this principle of imprint which drives a large part of Godard’s system of representation, particularly in the intuitive and memory-based principle which leads the heterogeneity of his juxtapositions and collages of images starting from Pierrot le fou (1965). He demonstrates that Godard considers the canvas of the cinematic screen as ‘a sensible surface, a supporting beam in which something imprints itself […]’ (222).

It is drafted with a view to inform current OECD work on engaging the private sector in financing green growth. Different financing mechanisms are outlined, and suggestions made as to what role governments in general, and pension fund regulatory and supervisory authorities in particular, can play in supporting pension funds investment in this sector.

  • The current economic crisis, which has arrested and even somewhat reversed the skyrocketing price of housing, might offer short-term oppor- tunities to some in the market for homes. But the mortgage meltdown and its aftermath will not change the underlying dynamic: over the past three decades, a wide gap has opened between the means of most New Yorkers and the costs of living in the city. We have seen this dynamic play out even during the last 15 years, as the local economy thrived and crime rates plum- meted.

  • One of the key decisions in achieving successful freezing of tissue-engineered products is the choice of cryoprotectant. Cryoprotectants minimize damage caused by ice crystal formation and should induce an amorphous state, rather than ice crystals during the cooling and warming phases. Although the use of cryoprotectants is mandatory, currently available reagents are cytotoxic to some extent. Since tissue-engineered products are larger than isolated cells, longer incubation times with cryoprotectant are necessary which may result in a lower survival rate.

  • If we really want to avoid climate change and conserve the ecosystems on which we all depend, it’s clear that we have to tackle both what we produce and consume. To progress this work, WWF believes that the UK government and retailers need to urgently develop and promote eating habits based on a sustainable diet if we are to address climate change, protect ecosystems and start to reverse the impacts of poor nutritional choices and promotions on people’s health.

  • Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) officials are proposing to import 11 billion gallons of water a year from rural northeastern Nevada, nearly 300 miles away, to Las Vegas Valley. To accomplish this, SNWA plans to build a 285-mile water pipeline. Recent estimates peg the cost at $3.5 billion, but former federal water planner Mark Bird and others think the true costs could be as much as four times higher. SNWA plans to finance Nevada’s largest-ever public works project with tax-exempt bonds.

  • We discuss the two most promising scenarios presented in Hutton et al, namely an improved stove intervention and use of LPG instead of solid fuel. The improved stove intervention is a chimneyless rocket stove, assumed to reduce SFU health effects by 35 percent. Annualized unit stove cost is US $ 2.6-3.1. Annualized unit cost of LPG stove and gas cylinder is US $9-18. LPG consumption is 0.3-0.9 kg per household per day. Annualized program cost per household is less than one dollar in most regions. 14 Reduced mortality is valued at the human...

  • Like outdoor air , indoor air contains a complex mixture of pollutants (chemical substances, allergens and microbes) from different sources that changes with time. Findings on the health effects of single air pollutants cannot necessarily be extended to mixtures. Indeed, different chemicals may interact with each other and cause more (or less) harmful effects than the sum of the effects caused by each chemical separately. Very little is known about the combined effects of indoor air pollutants.

  • The car antenna collects radio energy and converts it back into electrical energy; the energy here will always be much less than the energy originally applied to the transmitting antenna. If the car is turned on then the radio receiver in the car is continuously monitoring the electrical energy from its antenna. The first stage of the receiver is basically a filter which is tuned to amplify any energy around 27.9MHz and block energy the antenna picks up outside this region.

One candidate policy is to seek efficient usage, which di- rects amechanismto allocate resources to the set of users who have the highest utility for the use of the resources. Other social policies exist, such as those that favor small experiments, or favor underrepresented stakeholders, or (if money is involved) seek maximal revenue generation.
