This report analyzes the costs, benefits, and risks of some of the options the Navy might consider. This report should be of interest to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and to Navy policymakers involved in the present and future direction of naval aviation. This research was carried out in the Acquisition and Technology Policy Center of the National Defense Research Institute, RAND’s federally funded research and development center supporting the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the unified commands, the defense agencies, and the Navy....
This chapter is an introduction to options markets. It explains how puts and calls work and examines their investment characteristics. Popular option strategies are considered next. Finally, we examine a range of securities with embedded options such as callable or convertible bonds, and we take a quick look at some so-called exotic options.
“This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the important
discussion of stock option expensing and, more significantly, the
optimal use of stock options in compensation plans. It is written
from the point of view of an experienced and knowledgeable com-
pensation consultant who has advised board compensation com-
mittees and talked with many people outside the field considering
the economic and incentive effects of the overuse of stock options in
the 90s.”—John M. Biggs, former Chairman & CEO of TIAA-
Options involve risks and are not suitable for everyone. Prior to buying or selling options,
an investor must receive a copy of Characteristics and Risks of standardized Options.

In order to simplify the computations, commissions, fees, margin interest and taxes have
not been included in the examples used in these materials.
Most prefaces tend to focus on the technical content of the textbook, why the author felt the need to write it, what makes it different and most of all why readers should buy it. However, this was such an extraordinary learning experience for me, that I thought I should share some of it with you. Near the end of session 1998-9, I was asked as Programme Leader for a then HND/BSc Manufacturing to consider revamping the course. During the process of developing this new programme, the focus of which was manufacturing management and in particular manufacturing planning and control, I...
However, credit risk of trade intermediaries, i.e. power traders, not being
backed with as large tangible assets as energy generators, and earning a
competitive profit margin on energy trade, might be considered as a category of
players needing to model their credit risks at a most advanced level by
replicating the already mature financial companies’ expertise.
The present study addresses the above underlined issues in a more detail while
having a particular focus on credit risk issues in the energy sector.
Some carotenoids are considered as nutrients, such as alpha-, beta-, and gamma-carotene,
and alpha- and beta-cryptoxanthin, exhibiting vitamin A activity following their
metabolisation into retinol by humans (Biehler & Bohn, 2010; Biehler et al., 2010).
Carotenoids are pigments with several conjugated double bonds (polyene chain), which
could be divided into oxygen containing carotenoids (oxocarotenoids or xanthophylls), and
non-oxygen containing carotenoids (carotenes).
Vegetarians of all types can achieve recommended
nutrient intakes through careful selection of foods.
These individuals should give special attention to their
intakes of protein, iron, and vitamin B12, as well as
calcium and vitamin D if avoiding milk products. In
addition, vegetarians could select only nuts, seeds, and
legumes from the meat and beans group, or they could
include eggs if so desired. At the 2,000calorie level, they
could choose about 1.5 ounces of nuts and
2 /3 cup
legumes instead of 5.
Although it has been suggested that we store one gallon of water per day per person for drinking and five gallons of water per day per person for all uses, guidance concerning how many days to plan for has varied. Such thinking is antithetical to most businesses that have changed from stockpiling and keeping inventories, into a “just-in-time” mentality. We are now being asking to consider shifting in the opposite direction yet again.
Television has been around for decades. Once upon a time, it was revolutionary.
Today, it’s considered by many to be a necessity rather than a luxury. That makes it
easy to assume there’s little more to be said about the story of television, but that’s
simply not the case. Like many mature, commonly adopted technologies, television
is evolving to take advantage of new technology, and this means changes in how it
can be used.
Breathing clean air is important to maintain our health.
Thousands of us live in areas where the air is sometimes
considered unhealthy to breathe because it is polluted. One
common air pollutant is ground-level ozone. The effects of
ground-level ozone pollution are different than the effects
of the ozone layer high up in the atmosphere, which helps
protect us from receiving too much of the sun’s ultraviolet
radiation. At ground level, ozone can cause breathing
difficulties, aggravate lung diseases, such as asthma,
and may cause permanent lung damage.
The clinical care was based primarily on screening of women at health-center level by nurses using
visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), with visual inspection with Lugol’s iodine (VILI) being
added to the screening algorithm later in the project. Since it was not considered feasible or cost-
effective to offer treatment at every facility offering screening, women were referred to the district
hospital for further management after a positive screening test. Nurses at the district hospital
carried out cryotherapy, and more complicated cases were referred to the provincial hospital.
The concept of common issuance was first discussed by Member States in the late 1990s,
when the Giovannini Group (which has advised the Commission on capital-market
developments related to the euro) published a report presenting a range of possible options for
co-ordinating the issuance of euro-area sovereign debt
. In September 2008, interest in
common issuance was revived among market participants, when the European Primary
Dealers Association (EPDA) published a discussion paper "A Common European
Rising concern over the threat of terrorist attacks at private-sector targets has prompted commercial industries to consider ways to reduce the risk of terrorism. Shopping centers are particularly vulnerable to terrorist attacks because of their easy access and dense concentrations of people. This vulnerability has resulted in a relatively high risk of attacks: Since 1998, over 60 terrorist attacks at shopping centers have occurred throughout the world. In response to heightened concerns about terrorism,...
never set out to dedicate more than five years to researching and writing about
how the behavior of those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) affects
family members. You don’t choose some jobs, they choose you. Or as singer/songwriter
Carrie Newcomer puts it in “Close Your Eyes,” “How I got this job I’ll
never know, but when it calls, you can’t refuse to go.”
My involvement with BPD began as a personal quest. In the early 1990s, I
learned that a person who had had a large influence on my life suffered from some
of the traits of BPD.
Deceptive campaigns are attempts to misdirect targeted voters regarding the voting process for
public elections. Election activity that would be considered deceptive could for example
include false statements about polling times, date of the election, voter identification rules, or
the eligibility requirements for voters who wish to cast a ballot. Historically, disinformation
and misinformation efforts intended to suppress voter participation have been systemic
attempts to reduce voter participation among low-income, minority, young, disabled, and
This guide explains the different methods of getting paid and the different levels of risks involved.
You should note that none of the methods outlined below will completely eliminate the payment
risks associated with international trade, so you should consider your preferred payment option
with care and hedge the risks along with appropriate credit insurance and credit checks on your
Financing new equipment -- from computers to phone systems to capital equipment and other gear you need to run your company -- is a major issue for many small business owners. Leasing, instead of purchasing, can be a cost-effective option, particularly if you don't have the cash on hand, but need the equipment.
In fact, you might want to consider leasing even if you do have the cash to invest. By leasing, you might find that you can regulate your cash flow more effectively, because you have predictable, regular monthly installments as opposed to a single lump sum payment. Plus, leasing......
A working knowledge of shell scripting is essential to everyone wishing to become reasonably adept at system
administration, even if they do not anticipate ever having to actually write a script. Consider that as a Linux
machine boots up, it executes the shell scripts in /etc/rc.d to restore the system configuration and set up
services. A detailed understanding of these startup scripts is important for analyzing the behavior of a system,
and possibly modifying it.
Endometriosis is a progressive debilitating disease affecting the physical, social and
psychological aspects of normal life quality in nearly 1 of 7 women of reproductive
age. Endometriosis is considered to be an enigmatic disease owing to the lack of
specific set of symptoms, poorly understood pathogenesis, complexity in diagnosis
and limited therapeutic options available for management of the disorder. The last
three decades we have witnessed a significant volume of research related to
