  • The Unified Modelling Language, or the UML, is a graphical modelling language that provides us with a syntax for describing the major elements (called artifacts in the UML) of software systems. In this course, we will explore the main aspects of the UML, and describe how the UML can be applied to software development projects. Through to its core, UML leans towards object oriented software development, so in this course, we will also explore some of the important principles of object orientation....

  • ICEs provide a framework for electronic collaboration, typically within an organization, based on shared directory and messaging platforms. The core integrated-functionality areas are email, group calendaring and scheduling, shared folders/databases, threaded discussions, and custom application development. Administration and customization are generally performed by centralized IT staff. Representative products in this market include HandySoft BizFlow Groupware, IBM Lotus Notes/Domino, Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, and Novell GroupWise. ...

  • The interaction of the homeodomain of the sunflower KNOX protein HAKN1 with DNA was studied by site-directed mutagenesis, hydroxyl radical footprinting and missing nucleoside experiments. Binding of HAKN1 to different oligonucleotides indicated that HAKN1 prefers the sequence TGACA (TGTCA), with changes within the GAC core more pro-foundly affecting the interaction. Footprinting and missing nucleoside experiments using hydroxyl radical cleavage of DNA showed that HAKN1 interacts with a 6-bp region of the strand carrying the GAC core, covering the core and nucleotides towards the 3¢ end....

  • We have isolated a nonfucosylated and three variously fucosylated neutral oligosaccharides from human milk that are based on theiso-lacto-N-octaose core. Their structures were characterized by the combined use of electrospray mass spectrometry (ES-MS) and NMR spectroscopy. The branching pattern and blood group-related Lewis deter-minants, together with partial sequences and linkages of these oligosaccharides, were initially elucidated by high-sensitivity ES-MS/MS analysis, and then their full structure assignment was completed by methylation analysis and 1 H-NMR.

  • The structure of the lipid A and core region of the lipo-polysaccharide (LPS) fromFrancisella tularensis(ATCC 29684) was analysed using NMR, mass spectrometry and chemical methods. The LPS contains a b-GlcN-(1–6)-GlcN lipid A backbone, but has a number of unusual structural features; it apparently has no substituent at O-1 of the reducing end GlcN residue in the lipid part in the major part of the population, no substituents at O-3 and O-4ofb-GlcN, and no substituent at O-4of the Kdo residue.

  • Recent studies have suggested the existence of a novel protein of hepati-tis C virus (HCV) encoded by an ORF overlapping the core gene in the +1 frame (core+1 ORF). Two alternative translation mechanisms have been proposed for expression of the core+1 ORF of HCV-1a in cultured cells; a frameshift mechanism within codons 8–11, yielding a protein known as core+1⁄F, and⁄or translation initiation from internal codons in the core+1 ORF, yielding a shorter protein known as core+1⁄S.

  • A series of enzymatic substitutions modifies the basic structure of complex-type biantennary N-glycans. Among them, a b1,2-linked N-ace-tylglucosamine residue is introduced to the central mannose moiety of the core-fucosylated oligosaccharide by N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase VII. This so-called LEC14 epitope can undergo galactosylation at theb1,2-linked N-acetylglucosamine residue.

  • We study the global topology of the syntactic and semantic distributional similarity networks for English through the technique of spectral analysis. We observe that while the syntactic network has a hierarchical structure with strong communities and their mixtures, the semantic network has several tightly knit communities along with a large core without any such welldefined community structure. intriguing question, whereby we construct the syntactic and semantic distributional similarity network (DSN) and analyze their spectrum to understand their global topology. ...

  • Oil and gas are the most important non-renewable sources of energy. Exploring, producing and managing these resources in compliance with HSE standards are challenging tasks. New technologies, workflows and procedures have to be implemented. This book deals with some of these themes and describes some of the advanced technologies related to the oil and gas industry from HSE to field management issues. Some new technologies for geo-modeling, transient well testing and digital rock physics are also introduced. There are many more technical topics to be addressed in future books.

  • I. Introduction An important aspect of nuclear reactor core analysis involves the determination of the optimal coolant flow distribution and pressure drop across the reactor core. On the one hand, higher coolant flow rates will lead to better heat transfer coefficients and higher Critical Heat Flux (CHF) limits. On the other hand, higher flows rates will also in large pressure drops across the reactor core, hence larger required pumping powers and larger dynamic loads on the core components.

  • Gamma rays were discovered by Villard more than a hundred years ago. Rutherford gave the name -rays to the electrically neutral radiation emitted by the naturally occurring radioactive materials. Gamma rays are electromagnetic radiation, photons, which arises due to energy changes in the nucleus. It does not appear as an independent form of radiation, but it follows  and β decay, in those cases when the newly created core of the offspring is found in the excited state.

Hence, local resources become a central asset for destinations and tourism suppliers and their sustainability a core function of tourism marketing. Middleton and Hawkins (1998,p.
