The objective of operations management is to organize the production
and sales/marketing efforts in the most appropriate way for the business.
The purpose of a business is to produce a series of goods or services
(from this point on, these terms are considered the same and are referred
to as goods). It is a deciding factor that this process is achieved as
cheaply as possible.
A mold’s productivity is ultimately measured by how many good parts it can produce over time. A mold that runs very fast but is frequently down for maintenance or repair will not produce at lowest part cost and highest productivity. Conversely, a mold that runs too slow but produces parts consistently over time is not optimal. The same can be said for each component in the injection molding system. One way to quantify productivity is to measure the total equipment productivity (TEP):
TEP = Production hours (auto cycling) Parts made Scrap parts × × Available hours Hour Parts produced...
Health insurers play a unique role as both sellers
of insurance and buyers of health care services.
These companies use their power as buyers
against the smaller medical providers while
cooperating with larger providers to increase
profits for both.22,23 With only a handful of
large insurers, physician practices often have no
choice but to accept the prices offered without
bargaining effectively. Larger providers, such
as academic medical centers, can use their size
and stature to negotiate rates.
This is the cost of raw materials and goods bought for resale which you used
during this accounting period. Make sure you count creditors, that is items
delivered to you but which you had not paid for at the end of the period.
Do not count items you paid for in this period if they were included as
creditors in your last accounts.
You should include the value of stock you had on hand and uncompleted
work in progress at the start of the period (this must be the closing figure
which you used in your last accounts), but exclude the value of stock and
work in progress...

This report explores why, in recent decades, military fixed-wing aircraft costs have escalated beyond the rates of commonly used inflation indices, examining both economy-driven factors that the Services cannot control and customer-driven ones that they can. The authors found that this trend of cost increases is true for all types of aircraft

Good project management in construction must vigorously pursue the efficient utilization of labor material and equipment. Improvement of labor productivity should be a major and continual concern of those who are responsible for cost control of construted facilities...

Abstract: Industry standard for the control of switch mode power supply (SMPS) systems has been analog control. Now with the advent of high speed, lower cost digital signal processing (DSP) ICs, digital control there has been an increased interest in digital control of SMPS. The Power Electronics & Power Quality Laboratory of Texas A&M University is currently exploring several implementation aspects of digital control of power factor correction (PFC) stage of SMPS. Two low cost digital controllers: TMS320LF2407 and ST52x420 are evaluated for implementing PFC function.
Project 2010 is a powerful application that allows you to plan, resource, manage and report on a project no matter how large, it contains calculations, graphs. Project to web data and sharepoint information is available to be built in to the project file so that the project can be managed across continents via the internet or intranet allowing the use of a central pool of common resources to enable the project managers to efficiently interact and plan through project difficulties.
CHAPTER 12 Relevant Costing
After completing this chapter, you should be able to answer the following questions:
What factors are relevant in making decisions and why?
How do opportunity costs affect decision making?
MS Project is a tool to help you to plan projects, manage and update project information, and communicate the status once the project is under way.
The details of the project tasks and associated resources are entered into the system as a new project. The system will then display the data in such a way that the relationships of the tasks and their time scales can clearly be seen and potential problem areas identified.
Notes to the students: The concept of “Marginal Physical Product – MPP” in this problem set is exactly the same that of “Marginal Productivity – MP” in the lecture Multiple Choice Questions
1. Which of the following are factors of production?
A. Output in a production function
C. Land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship
D. Implicit and explicit costs
More recently, Cox and Fisher (2009) analyzed the titles of contemporary romance
novels to determine if their popularity might be related to evolutionary themes that would
be expected to have widespread appeal when it comes to some of the unique and recurrent
reproductive issues that women confront. The five most common words featured in
romance novel titles were love, bride, baby, man, and marriage, in that order. Common
themes extracted from these titles included commitment, reproduction, masculine/high
ranking suitors, and resources.
