(BQ) This important new book brings together gender studies and sexuality studies to provide original and critical insights into processes of identity formation in a wide range of sport-related contexts. The authors draw on contemporary debates concerning gender and identity from a range of disciplines including sociology, social and cultural geography, media studies and management studies, to address key issues in masculinity, femininity and sexuality
(BQ) This book will be of particular interest to students and academics working in sport studies, leisure studies, gender studies, queer and sexuality studies, social and cultural geography, and sociology.
A translator can have but one aim—to present the thought of the author faithfully. In this case an added responsibility is involved, since one who had so much to give to the world has been taken in his prime. M. Petrucci has written at length of art in the Far East in his exhaustive work La Philosophie de la Nature dans l’Art d’Extrême Orient and elsewhere, and has demonstrated the wide scope of his thought and learning. The form and style in Peintres Chinois are the result of much condensation of material and have thus presented problems in translation,...
This book asks a lot of questions to help you learn how to study
effectively. But there are no “right” or “wrong” answers here. Every question
is designed to help you discover how you learn, and to help you do more of
what works for you—whether you’re reading a text, listening to a lecture,
writing a paper, or preparing for a test.
As the world of politics and public affairs has gradually changed beyond recognition over
the past two decades, journalism too has been transformed. Yet the study of news and
journalism often seems stuck with ideas and debates which have lost much of their
critical purchase. Journalism is at a crossroads: it needs to reaffirm core values and
rediscover key activities, almost certainly in new forms, or it risks losing its distinctive
character as well as its commercial basis.
This book is intended as a companion volume to Contemporary British Literature; but the differences
between conditions in America and in England have made it necessary to alter somewhat the original plan.
In America today we have a few excellent writers who challenge comparison with the best of present-day
England. We have many more who have been widely successful in the business of making novels, poems,
plays, which cannot rank as literature at all.
THE EAST ASIAN FINANCIAL CRISIS: A CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF FOUR ALTERNATIVE MODELS David Card and Alan
Krueger provided the SAT data used throughout. Cecilia Rouse provided the hard-to-obtain
School District Data Book used in Chapters 1 and 2. Saul Geiser and Roger Studley of the
University of California Office of the President provided the student records that permitted
the research in Chapter 3.
We study unitary random matrix ensembles of the form
−1 Zn,N | det M |2α e−N Tr V (M ) dM,
where α −1/2 and V is such that the limiting mean eigenvalue density for n, N → ∞ and n/N → 1 vanishes quadratically at the origin. In order to compute the double scaling limits of the eigenvalue correlation kernel near the origin, we use the Deift/Zhou steepest descent method applied to the Riemann-Hilbert problem for orthogonal polynomials on the real line with respect to the weight |x|2α e−N V (x) . ...
We obtain global well-posedness, scattering, and global L10 spacetime t,x bounds for energy-class solutions to the quintic defocusing Schr¨dinger equao tion in R1+3 , which is energy-critical. In particular, this establishes global existence of classical solutions. Our work extends the results of Bourgain and Grillakis , which handled the radial case.
A third criterion for effective research on skills transfer is study over time. To be
certain that students are transferring skills from their first language rather than using
skills learned in their second language, researchers must study subjects who have
received reading instruction in their first language prior to receiving it in their second
language, and who have received sufficient first-language instruction to have developed a
base of first-language skills that can be transferred.
The blow-up dynamic and upper bound on the blow-up rate for critical nonlinear Schr¨dinger equation o
By Frank Merle and Pierre Raphael
Abstract We consider the critical nonlinear Schr¨dinger equation iut = −∆u−|u| N u o with initial condition u(0, x) = u0 in dimension N = 1. For u0 ∈ H 1 , local existence in the time of solutions on an interval [0, T ) is known, and there exist finite time blow-up solutions, that is, u0 such that limt↑
The questions posed in the task for this study are part of a very broad
and important set of issues for the Department of Defense. To answer them
required the Committee on Critical Technology Accessibility to develop its
own perspective about the context within which the questions could be
placed. As a result, this report provides judgments and recommendations
about both the specific questions and the broader context.
I wish to express my appreciation to the members of the committee for
their contributions to the preparation of this report.
This little volume is a contribution to the comparative study of religions. It is an endeavor to present in a critically correct light some of the fundamental conceptions which are found in the native beliefs of the tribes of America. So little has heretofore been done in this field that it has yielded a very scanty harvest for purposes of general study. It has not yet even passed the stage where the distinction between myth and tradition has been recognized. Nearly all historians continue to write about some of the American hero-gods as if they had been chiefs of...
A discussion of the requirements for policy-oriented future studies — saliency, credibility, transformability into policymaking inputs, and desirability by the policymaking system. To be salient, future studies should relate alternative futures to present decisions, deal with matters of actual or potential concern, recognize possible future developments, examine critical issues even if unlink......
This paper presents a critical discussion of the various approaches that have been used in the evaluation of Natural Language systems. We conclude that previous approaches have neglected to evaluate systems in the context of their use, e.g. solving a task requiring data retrieval. This raises questions about the validity of such approaches. In the second half of the paper, we report a laboratory study using the Wizard of Oz technique to identify NL requirements for carrying out this task.
Over the decades there have been several papers on the coloration of cotton-based textiles. The number of articles dealing with the processing of cotton, including preparation, dyeing, and finishing, may be in the thousands. An investigation of the possible causes of problems occurring in the coloration of textiles revealed that a comprehensive review of case studies and scientific analysis would be a welcome addition to the already rich pool of knowledge in this area.
(BQ) This comprehensive reference takes the incredibly easy approach to one of the most demanding and complex areas of nursing. It also includes a quick reference comparing the types of shock, as well as access to online case studies to improve critical thinking skills, an NCLEX tutorial, test-taking strategies, and over 1,000 NCLEX-style questions.
As you can see, the time constraints are brutal. To succeed, you must ration
your time properly. The reason that time is so critical is that every question
counts the same toward your final score. If you run out of time on any passage
the questions that you do not answer will hurt your score far more than earlier
questions that you spent extra time on and feel certain are correct.
