  • Gaps in current knowledge To strengthen current knowledge, particularly on effectiveness, cost/benefit analysis and the impact on health of WHP programmes, further research is needed. The development of simple and easy-to-use validated instruments for diet and physical activity evaluation is encouraged.

  • Current research directions are looking at Data Mining (DM) and Knowledge Management (KM) as complementary and interrelated felds, aimed at supporting, with algorithms and tools, the lifecycle of knowledge, including its discovery, formalization, retrieval, reuse, and update. While DM focuses on the extraction of patterns, information, and ultimately knowledge from data (Giudici, 2003; Fayyad et al.

  • Communities of Practice are currently attracting much interest among academics, consultants and in commercial organisations. Academic researchers are undertaking research into how CoPs can be supported, the relationships within them and how this can help support the generation of new knowledge. Similarly, consultants in the field are developing tools and techniques for supporting, coaching and facilitating CoPs, advising organisations as to how they can identify and nurture CoPs and seeking to demonstrate how organisations can benefit from them....

  • Previous research provides evidence for a conceptual distinction between self-assessed and objective knowledge, and relatively little is known about the relationship between knowledge and information search. The current research provides empirical evidence for differentiating the two knowledge types. Furthermore, it suggests that the relative effects of the two types of knowledge on pre-purchase information search depend on the type of information source.

  • The information compiled in this report reflects evidence collected from WHP policies in high-income countries, primarily within the European and North American regions. The scarcity of information and case studies from low- and middle-income countries was highlighted as an important gap in the current knowledge that needs to be addressed. Despite the limits of the available evidence, all stakeholders are encouraged to develop and implement WHP policies and programmes tackling unhealthy diets and physical inactivity....

  • Prior to the 2010 renegotiation of the SRA, some observers argued that the reimbursement rate should be pegged to something other than premium value, such as the number of policies sold, to better reflect actual costs and to help reduce federal expenditures. If premiums are actuarially sound, the administrative costs of writing a policy are likely not proportional to the value of the policy (e.g., whether 10 acres or 1,000 acres, or $3 per bushel or $9 per bushel).

  • Universities seem not well prepared to ‘educate’ transformation skills. Like undergraduate programs, most MBA programs focus on traditional, disciplinary knowledge (e.g. marketing, accounting / finance, human resources, operations management, and information systems), although complex transformations require cross-disciplinary skills. Even at renowned business schools, integrated, cross-disciplinary pro- grams focusing on change are hard to find (Team Denzler, 2002). If they exist at all, ‘change’ programs often are restricted to soft factors and exclude technology issues.

  • Providing the board conducted one, the previous year’s executive performance eval- uation most likely includes an action plan for the current year, with developmental goals for the executive. Include these in the evaluation; if not attended to, an excel- lent reason needs to be provided. Job description The executive job description should list major areas for which the executive is respon- sible. It’s essential that the board review this in preparation for the job evaluation, espe- cially if your board has never evaluated its director.

  • The content of skills-based health education is a clear delineation of specific knowledge, attitudes, and skills, including life skills, that young people will be helped to acquire so they might adopt behaviours or create the conditions described in the objectives. Once the content is delineated, methods are chosen that are most suitable to the content. For example, lectures are suitable methods for helping students acquire accurate knowledge; discussions are suitable for influencing attitudes; and role plays are suitable for developing skills.

  • The growing availability of spoken language corpora presents new opportunities for enriching the methodologies of speech and language therapy. In this paper, we present a novel approach for constructing speech motor exercises, based on linguistic knowledge extracted from spoken language corpora. In our study with the Dutch Spoken Corpus, syllabic inventories were obtained by means of automatic syllabification of the spoken language data.

  • While computational estimation of difficulty of words in the lexicon is useful in many educational and assessment applications, the concept of scalar word difficulty and current corpus-based methods for its estimation are inadequate. We propose a new paradigm called word meaning maturity which tracks the degree of knowledge of each word at different stages of language learning. We present a computational algorithm for estimating word maturity, based on modeling language acquisition with Latent Semantic Analysis. ...

  • In this paper, we extend the work on using latent cross-language topic models for identifying word translations across comparable corpora. We present a novel precisionoriented algorithm that relies on per-topic word distributions obtained by the bilingual LDA (BiLDA) latent topic model. The algorithm aims at harvesting only the most probable word translations across languages in a greedy fashion, without any prior knowledge about the language pair, relying on a symmetrization process and the one-to-one constraint.

  • The performance of the Sydney CBD market and surrounding suburbs rests on the fundamentals of supply and demand. Currently, there are 13 projects or 1,916 apartments being marketed. Of these projects, four are completed with only 13% of the stock remaining for sale. A further six projects or 940 apartments are under construction with the remaining yet to commence. Of the projects under construction, approximately 86% of the apartments have already been pre-sold.

  • In this thesis we explore how knowledge management is performed in open source projects. Open source projects are often perceived as informal, even unmanaged. Still, they appear to manage knowledge acquisition and sharing sufficiently well to successfully develop software in such a distributed environment as the Internet. This thesis aims to explore that apparent contradiction, and thus complement the currently limited research in this field.
