In this paper, a method to reproduce realistic
driving feeling and improve the returnability of steer-by-wire
systems (SBW) is proposed by measuring the roadwheel motor's
current directly. The key contribution presented here is a novel
method to recreate the driving feeling in term of force feedback
with simpie and cheap current sensors. A current sensor is used to
fully measure the steering torque on the rack of steering
mechanism. This measured steering torque therefore, includes the
overall effects of road conditions, aligning moments, tire
properties and so on.

This book is motivated to a large extent by our dissatisfaction with current practices
in behavioral measurement. Most of the basic data consists of dichotomous
responses, and much of the rest is made of responses on short scales. Neither type
of data furnishes information that can inherently be considered more than ordinal.
The dominant contemporary treatment of this data is to derive from it scores on
interval-scale latent variables through the application of one or another"model"
that is presumed to explain the data.
In this paper we present research in which we apply (i) the kind of intrinsic evaluation metrics that are characteristic of current comparative HLT evaluation, and (ii) extrinsic, human task-performance evaluations more in keeping with NLG traditions, to 15 systems implementing a language generation task. We analyse the evaluation results and ﬁnd that there are no signiﬁcant correlations between intrinsic and extrinsic evaluation measures for this task.
The main goal of this paper is to propose automatic schemes for the translation paired comparison method. This method was proposed to precisely evaluate a speech translation system's capability. Furthermore, the method gives an objective evaluation result, i.e., a score of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC). The TOEIC score is used as a measure of one's speech translation capability. However, this method requires tremendous evaluation costs. Accordingly, automatization of this method is an important subject for study.

This paper presents a method for building genetic language taxonomies based on a new approach to comparing lexical forms. Instead of comparing forms cross-linguistically, a matrix of languageinternal similarities between forms is calculated. These matrices are then compared to give distances between languages. We argue that this coheres better with current thinking in linguistics and psycholinguistics. Sentence compression is the task of producing a summary at the sentence level. This paper focuses on three aspects of this task which have not received detailed treatment in the literature: training requirements, scalability, and automatic evaluation. We provide a novel comparison between a supervised constituentbased and an weakly supervised wordbased compression algorithm and examine how these models port to different domains (written vs. spoken text).
