Throughout the 1990s and into this century, the United States Air Force (USAF) has found it necessary to retain its aircraft fleets for unprecedentedly long service lives. Current plans forecast keeping portions of some existing fleets for as long as 80 years of service. The safety, aircraft availability, and cost implications of that fleetretention policy are unknown. The electrocardiogram (ECG), introduced into clinical practice more than 100
years ago by Einthoven, constitutes a lineal recording of the heart’s electrical
activity that occurs successively over time. An atrial depolarisation wave (P
wave), a ventricular depolarisation wave (QRS complex) and a ventricular
repolarisation wave (T wave) are successively recorded for each cardiac cycle
(Figures 1A–C). As these different waves are recorded from different sites

The aim of this new interdisciplinary series is to promote the exchange of information
between scientists working in different fields, who are involved in the study of complex
systems, and to foster education and training of young scientists entering this rapidly
developing research area.
It has been a decade since book-length writing about law and the Internet began
in earnest. Ethan Katsh’s wonderful book Law in a Digital World (1995) is
just over a decade old, and anticipated the flood. My first book, Code and Other
Laws of Cyberspace (1999), is just under.
Most of these early books had a common character. We were all trying first to
make the obscure understandable, and second, to draw lessons from the understood
about how law and technology needed to interact.
The potential value of artificial neural networks (ANNs) as a predictor of malignancy has
now been widely recognised. The concept of ANNs dates back to the early part of the 20th
century; however, their latest resurrection started in earnest in the 1980s when they were
applied to many problems in the areas of pattern recognition, control, and optimisation.
In describing her art, Louise Nevelson has written: “I do not belong
to any movement. As my work is related to the present time, it is
bound to be related to that of others, consciously or not....” Her art
may be more closely related to her collections of African art,
American farm tools, architectural elements, and diverse other
fragments of the past and her attraction to the art and architecture of
pre-Columbian Mexico and Central America.
The study of how biodiversity is spread around the world is known as bio-
geography. Mite harvestmen illustrate one of the most common patterns in bio-
geography, called vicariance: species become separated from each other when
geographical barriers emerge. Those barriers can be formed by oceans, as in the
case of the mite harvestmen; they can also be separated by rising mountains,
spreading deserts, and shifting rivers. The other major pattern in biogeography,
known as dispersal, occurs when species themselves spread away from their
place of origin.
The LCA covered several different environmental impact categories; global warming,
acidification, eutrophication, ozone layer depletion, photooxidant formation and
resource use as well as toxicological impact categories. In addition the results were
weighted using two different weighting methods; Ecotax 02 and Eco-Indicator 99.
The results showed different patterns regarding where in the life cycle the main
potential environmental impact can be seen.

human cytosolic thymidine kinase 1(TK1) is investigated.
Each of these conditions will result in lower than normal operating pressures.
When there is a shortage of refrigerant, pressures will be lower than normal.
However, the reduction in pressure may be so slight as not to be readily
detected, other than by a loss of evaporating capacity and the longer running
time of the unit. If the shortage is considerable, both suction and discharge
pressures will be very low; if the system temperature control consists of a
thermostat only, the unit will run continuously with poor refrigerating effect.
Chapter 4 - The REA enterprise ontology: Business process level modeling. The objective of this chapter is to present a template pattern for modeling enterprise business processes (transaction cycles) that serves as the structure for an enterprisewide database.
Chapter 8 - The sales/collection business process. The objective of this chapter is to encourage an in-depth understanding of the sales/collection business process, with a focus on the modeling of this transaction cycle with the REA enterprise ontology and querying to meet information needs for this cycle.
Chapter 9 - The acquisition/payment business process. The objective of this chapter is to encourage an in-depth understanding of the acquisition/payment business process, with a focus on the modeling of this transaction cycle with the REA enterprise ontology and querying to meet information needs for this cycle.
Chapter 10 - View integration and implementation compromises. One objective of this chapter is to explain how to unite the business process level REA models for multiple transaction cycles. A second objective is to explain implementation compromises commonly made at each step in conceptual modeling and database design. A final objective of this chapter is to demonstrate retrieval of information from multiple integrated business processes.
