Children’s faculty members, generally with an emphasis on work/life balance. Meghan Weir, MD, a Boston Children’s ED Staff Physician, talked about her experiences and insights during her residency at Boston Children’s from her book Between Expectations: Lessons from a Pediatric Residency.
The sample of M&As is collected from the Securities Data Corporation’s (SDC) US Mergers
and Acquisitions Database. We select both completed and withdrawn domestic M&As with
announcement dates between 1980 and 2003, and require both the acquirer and the target to be
public firms. We include only acquisitions in which the acquiring firms control less than 50% of
the shares of the target firms before acquisition announcements.
In the modified gambling task, subjects selected cards from one of two decks to
earn cash. The cards were pre-organized so that one deck (A) had an overall loss of $2.50
every ten cards and the other deck (B) had an overall gain of $2.50 every ten cards. All
the cards in deck A gave a $1.00 on every turn but were occasionally accompanied with
losses, $7.50 for example (for a net loss of $6.50). The other deck B gave a smaller gain
for each card, +$0.50 but had smaller occasional losses. Subjects did not know the
For more than half of small businesses (58 percent), their social media efforts meet their
expectations. Over a quarter (28 percent) feel their expectations have not been met, and 8
percent feel social media exceeds their expectations. This has not changed much in the past six
What has changed is what small businesses’ expect to achieve with social media. Instead of the
lofty goal of social media identifying and attracting new customers, small businesses’ biggest
expectation from social media now is just to raise awareness of their business.
Though there exists a body of feminist film making in Hindi cinema, the leading lady of Hindi films has more or
less played defined roles which conform to the values upheld by Indian society. Women in Bollywood have been
uni-dimensional characters, who are good or bad, white or black. There are no shades of grey. This dichotomy
was reinforced in popular films which distinguished between the heroine and the vamp, the wife and the other
woman. Films have also been inspired to a large extent from religion and mythology whereby women characters
were seen as the epitome of virtue and...
E-tribes or virtual communities: whatever one
chooses to call them, at least one thing seems assured.
With 51 per cent of Internet users using the Web
daily, and exponential global growth rates for new
users, prodigious growth in the quantity, interests,
and influence of virtual communities is guaranteed.
Unlikely to replace physical encounters, or information
from traditional media, online interactions

In China, either small farmers bring their cows to the station or the cows are housed near the
milking facility – to allow cows managed by households to be milked by machine and have the
milk go directly to a refrigerated bulk tank. There are also a growing number of medium-sized
specialized household farms with 200-10004 cows. These are often private farmers within reasonable
transportation distances from major consuming areas. These farmers also have mechanized milking, cold
storage, and highly productive animals (5000-7000 litres/head/year).
Theoretical development in the area of health change in an older population began
with the realization that the rapid mortality decline among the old beginning in the
late 1960s could be linked to important population health consequences (15, 75).
Fries (36) generated some of the interest in trends in health with his promotion
of the idea that there was an ongoing “compression of morbidity.
New members have to buy their books or borrow them from older members of the
bank. They should pay an entrance fee and start bringing their weekly mandatory
savings to the bank meetings. New members are not eligible for loans until they have
attended four bank meetings and saved four times. Because their savings are small,
their loans will be small at first and so will their dividends.
If the village bank grows to 35 members and still more women want to join, the group
should help the new women form their own village bank. Once membership grows...
If people express concerns it is worth agreeing to meet them in person and talking through the event
with them so that they understand in detail how they may be affected. If there’s a particular business
which you foresee could be a problem, for example a courier firm with vehicles coming and going
throughout the day, approach them in person first and see if they’re willing to work with you and
reduce (or eliminate) the number of vehicle movements.
Some businesses may need to be alerted to the fact that they could benefit from the event (eg a...
How many women build high-growth companies of this caliber? To date, there have not
been comprehensive studies that isolate the ―true high-growth/high-impact‖ bracket with
statistical rigor and allow for gender comparisons. But, in a sense, statistical studies are
not really needed here. So few women are operating at the highest levels of
entrepreneurship that one can get a feeling for how scarce they are by the informal
exercise of sitting down and trying to name them.
Climate change presents a unique challenge for economics: it is the greatest and
widest-ranging market failure ever seen. The economic analysis must therefore be
global, deal with long time horizons, have the economics of risk and uncertainty at
centre stage, and examine the possibility of major, non-marginal change. To meet
these requirements, the Review draws on ideas and techniques from most of the
important areas of economics, including many recent advances.
At the same time, and not surprisingly, these disempowering processes have generated
mistrust and resistance. Freedom’s revolutionary commitment to the development
of tools and ideas to «grow more maize» and refusal to be objectified by scholars or
images of hunger and poverty, speaks to community frustration and anger, but more
importantly, to community strength and determination to reclaim what has been taken
What they both say is that managing natural resources in the difficult times ahead will
require a clear recognition of the mistakes and abuses of the past.
Several organizations have undertaken efforts to promote oral health. The National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health published The Bright Futures in Practice: Oral Health to promote and improve the health and well being of infants, children and adolescents. The American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Periodontology
and the American Academy of Pediatrics have issued statements and recommendations for improving the oral health of pregnant women and young children....
Companies embrace Lean Manufacturing for three fundamental reasons. First, the highly competitive,
globalized market of the late 20th and early 21st century require that companies lower costs to increase
margins and/or decrease prices through the elimination of all non-value added aspects of the enterprise.
In other words, companies need to key in on Ford’s production efficiency ideals. Second, customer
responsiveness is key.
MD5 [MD5] is a message digest algorithm that takes as input a message
of arbitrary length and produces as output a 128-bit "fingerprint" or
"message digest" of the input. The published attacks against MD5
show that it is not prudent to use MD5 when collision resistance is
required. This document replaces the security considerations in RFC
[HMAC] defined a mechanism for message authentication using
cryptographic hash functions. Any message digest algorithm can be
used, but the cryptographic strength of HMAC depends on the
properties of the underlying hash function.
With outside runs, bury the wire along the pen border at least 12" deep, and toe the fence outward about
6 inches. This stops most predators from digging under the fence. Animals always dig at the base of a
fence. By toeing the fence outward and burying it, the predator digs down right into more fencing. Some
people run electric fencing around the outside of their pens 4" off the ground about one foot from the
main fence to discourage predators. If your outside runs are not predator-proof, you need to lock up your
poultry before dark.
When comparing CBE to some of the more traditional models of education (Fig. 2), three
fundamentally different characteristics emerge. First, CBE explicitly maps the specific health
needs of the populations to a set of competencies for the workforce to be trained. In other words,
it guides decisions about what graduates of the educational programs must be able to do, in order
to address the key health issues of the community.
Ongoing data collection is required to assess the nation’s progress toward Healthy People
2020 COPD objectives which includes: (1) Reduce activity limitations among adults with
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); (2) Reduce deaths from chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD) among adults; (3) Reduce hospitalizations for chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD); and (4) (Developmental) Increase the proportion of adults with
abnormal lung function whose underlying obstructive disease has been diagnosed.
Of the women screened, results were available for only about 2,200 who attended a particular clinic. These
women, who all had positive VIA results, subsequently had repeat VIA by gynecologists at the clinic: only about
half of the women were found to have positive VIA results at this second visit. The authors also noted a problem
with the treatment of screen-positive women: only half of those with high-grade precancers received treatment.
