  • Today, greater emphasis is being placed on a component’s ‘machinability’ , but this term is an ambiguous one, having a variety of different meanings, depending upon the production engineer’s requirements. In fact, the machinability expression does not have an authoritative definition, despite the fact that it has been used for decades. In 1938, Ernst in his book on the ‘Physics of Metal Cutting’ , defined machinability in the following manner: ‘As a complex physical property of a metal...

  • Statistical methods require very large corpus with high quality. But building large and faultless annotated corpus is a very difficult job. This paper proposes an efficient m e t h o d to construct part-of-speech tagged corpus. A rulebased error correction m e t h o d is proposed to find and correct errors semi-automatically by user-defined rules. We also make use of user's correction log to reflect feedback. Experiments were carried out to show the efficiency of error correction process of this workbench. The result shows that about 63.2 % of tagging errors can be corrected. ...

  • The paper begins by defining a class of distributed memory machines which have useful properties as retrieval and filtering devices. These memory mechanisms store large numbers of associations on a single composite vector. They provide a natural format for encoding the syntactic and semantic constraints associated with linguistic elements. A computational architecture for parsing natural language is proposed which utillses the retrieval and associative features of these devices.

  • (BQ) Every concept is clearly defined, and discussions always build easily from elementary theory to specific applications familiar to anyone with the slightest interest in mechanics. Important concepts, machine components, and techniques are clearly illustrated in more than 200 diagrams, drawings, and cross-sections that reveal inner workings — all of these help to clarify even further an already clear and well-organized presentation

  • This paper proposes how to automatically identify Korean comparative sentences from text documents. This paper first investigates many comparative sentences referring to previous studies and then defines a set of comparative keywords from them. A sentence which contains one or more elements of the keyword set is called a comparative-sentence candidate. Finally, we use machine learning techniques to eliminate non-comparative sentences from the candidates. As a result, we achieved significant performance, an F1-score of 88.54%, in our experiments using various web documents. ...

  • Syntax-based statistical machine translation (MT) aims at applying statistical models to structured data. In this paper, we present a syntax-based statistical machine translation system based on a probabilistic synchronous dependency insertion grammar. Synchronous dependency insertion grammars are a version of synchronous grammars defined on dependency trees. We first introduce our approach to inducing such a grammar from parallel corpora.

  • The following proposal is for a Japanese sentence analysis method to be used in a Japanese book reading machine. This method is designed to allow for several candidates in case of ambiguous characters. Each sentence is analyzed to compose a data structure by defining the relationship between words and phrases. This structure ( named network structure ) involves all possible combinations of syntactically collect phrases.

  • A formalism is a set of notation with well-defined semantics (namely for the interpretation of the symbols used and their manipulation), by means of which one formally expresses certain domain knowledge, which is to be utilised for specific purposes. In this paper, we are interested in formalisms which are being used or have applications in the domain of machine translation (MT).

  • OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision Library: is an open-source BSD-licensed library that includes several hundreds of computer vision algorithms. The document describes the so-called OpenCV 2.x API, which is essentially a C++ API, as opposite to the C-based OpenCV 1.x API. The latter is described in opencv1x.pdf. OpenCV has a modular structure, which means that the package includes several shared or static libraries.

  • The first five editions of this book were based on the idea that a computer can be regarded as a hierarchy of levels, each one performing some well-defined function. This fundamental concept is as valid today as it was when the first edition came out, so it has been retained as the basis for the sixth edition. As in the first five editions, the digital logic level, the microarchitecture level, the instruction set architecture level, the operating-system machine level, and the assembly language level are all discussed in detail....

  • Programs written using a declarative language specify the properties that have to be met by the output. They do not specify details expressed in terms of the control flow of the executing machine but of the mathematical relations between the declared objects and their properties. Two broad categories of declarative languages are functional languages and logical languages. The principle behind functional languages (like Haskell) is to not allow side effects, which makes it easier to reason about programs like mathematical functions.

  • (BQ) In this paper, an easily implemented method is developed to describe the variations of EDM process, represented by gap states. On the basis of a time series of gap states from a machining process, the paper first studied a general descriptive model for EDM process, and then equivalently simplified the model for application; after spectral analysis, preprocessing of data, parameters selection and model validation proposed a well-defined model. Finally, by using this model structure and size, an online time-varied predictive model was developed.
