  • A series of commercially manufactured medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels were exposed to a post-manufacture heat-treatment at various temperatures and durations using a hot press and just enough pressure to ensure firm contact between the panel and the press platens. Postmanufacture heat-treatment improved surface roughness of the exterior MDF panels. Panels treated at 225C for 30 min had the smoothest surface while the roughest surface was found for the control panels.

  • Effect of wollastonite nanofibers on the improvement of thermal conductivity coefficient of Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) was studied here to find a possible solution to decrease hot-press time as a bottle-neck during composite production. Nanowollastonite was applied at 10%, based on the dry weight of wood fibers. Density of the control MDF boards was 0.66 g/cm3. Thermal conductivity coefficient was measured using an apparatus based on Fourier’s Law for heat conduction.

  • “There is no such thing as an easy experiment, nor is there any substitute for careful experimentation in many areas of basic research and applied product development.” From Experimental Methods for Engineers by J. P. Holman Measurement is a multidisciplinary experimental science. Measurement systems synergistically blend science, engineering and statistical methods to provide fundamental data for research, design and development, control of processes and operations, and facilitate safe and economic performance of systems.

  • Zubkov et al. (2000) found that Prochlorococcus spp. were the dominant cyanobacteria in the northern and southern Atlantic gyres and the equatorial region, giving way to Synechococcus spp. in cooler waters. Synechococcus cells also become more numerous and even reach blooming densities near the tropical region affected by the Mauritanian upwelling. Finally, the concentrations of Picoeukaryotes tend to be at their height in temperate waters.

  • Following Frank/Massy/Wind25 , segmentation variables can be classified into general and product-specific consumer characteristics. General consumer characteristics are independent of products and circumstances, like demographic characteristics (age, family, family life cycle, size, gender, i ncome, occupation, religion, race, social class etc.), psychographic characteristics (lifestyle, personality etc.) or geographic charac- teristics (region, city or metro size, density, climate etc.

  • To design a team of robots which is able to perform given tasks is a great concern of many members of robotics community. There are many problems left to be solved in order to have the fully functional robot team. Robotics community is trying hard to solve such problems (navigation, task allocation, communication, adaptation, control, ...).

  • In the vascular system, estrogen and serotonin have been shown to individually alter clotting, cholesterol, vasocon- striction, and heart attacks. Both high and low levels of E2 have been associated with increased risk of thromboem- bolism; high levels result in increased clot formation, while low levels result in slower clot breakdown. Unusu- ally high concentrations of estrogen (beyond normal physiological levels) directly increase the likelihood of clotting by increasing production of clotting factors VII through X in the liver [41].

  • These exercises have been developed to fit the content of the text book Drilling Fluid Engineering at www.bookboone.dk. The understanding of the physics and mathematics of the processes has been in focus of both the book and the exercises. Many practical applications have also been created and entered into the collection of exercises. Most of the exercises have been solved by students in the corresponding course at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics at NTNU of Trondheim. • The permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive has emerged as a top competitor for a full range of motion control applications [1–3]. For example, the PMSM is widely used in machine tools, robotics, actuators, and is being considered in high-power applications such as vehicular propulsion and industrial drives. It is also becoming viable for commercial/residential applications. The PMSM is known for having high efficiency, low torque ripple, superior dynamic performance, and high power density.

  • Public health officials have long been concerned about the effect of the environment on human health. In the nineteenth century, public health efforts in the United States were focused on controlling the spread of infectious disease, and advances in sanitation and the provision of clean water contributed to improvements in the health of the population.

  • A study was conducted to investigate the capacity in precipitating phosphorus of CaSO4, Ca (OH) 2 and Al2 (SO4) 3 to control growth of phytoplankton. At the same time, possible effects of these chemicals on shrimp were also evaluated. The results showed that all of these chemicals have high potential in precipitating phosphorus. Application of these chemicals in the shrimp tanks resulted in decreased phytoplankton densities as compared to the control. Mean densities of phytoplankton in CaSO4 , Ca(OH)2 and Al2(SO4 )3 treatments were 730.154±377.367 cell.L-1, 752.065±335.024 cell.

  • A purchaser should assess the environmental risks associated with a property being purchased. In Canada, government o"cials do not “certify” that a property is free from such risks. A property’s environmental status can be ascertained by inspecting applicable company and public records. In virtually all cases, a purchaser will want to do an “environmental audit” of the property which may include conducting scienti!c testing and a technical analysis of the property. Lending institutions often require such an audit before advancing any funds.
