Mutual funds are one of the several options
that investors explore for investing surplus
funds. In a deposit-dominated market like
India it is important for mutual funds to
be able to offer differentiated risk-rewards
and gain shelf-space. With many seemingly
similar offerings from multiple mutual
funds unable to clearly communicate their
superiority, a less informed investor may find
it difficult to make a choice. This uncertainty
leads to a weakened ‘pull’ for the product.
Your employer may offer a group long-term care insurance plan or offer
individual policies at a group discount. An increasing number of employers
offer this benefit,16 especially since the passage of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA allows employers the
same type of federal tax benefit when they pay for their employees’ long-
term care insurance as when they pay for their health insurance (except for
Section 125 cafeteria plans).
The employer-group plan may be similar to what you could buy in an
However, instead of remaining tobacco-free in the wake of these policies,
young people are turning to cheaper tobacco products due to the failure
of federal and state governments to equalize tobacco taxes, so that other
tobacco products, like cigars and smokeless tobacco, are taxed at a rate
comparable to cigarettes. Earlier this year, the U.S. Government Account-
ability Office (GAO) released a study that found unequal tax rates among
all tobacco products has led to “significant market shifts” as tobacco users
switch from cigarettes to lower-priced products. ...
In this book, I take you through the continuous cycle of bookkeeping, which begins with
setting up your company’s books, developing a list of your company’s accounts (Chart of
Accounts; see Chapter 3), developing your company’s General Ledger (which summarizes all
the activity in a company’s accounts; see Chapter 4), and developing your company’s journals
(which give details about all of a company’s financial transactions; see Chapter 5).
The macroeconomic performance of individual countries varied markedly during the 2007–09
global financial crisis. While China’s growth never dipped below 6% and Australia’s worst
quarter was no growth, the economies of Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom suffered
annualised GDP contractions of 5–10% per quarter for five to seven quarters in a row. We
exploit this cross-country variation to examine whether a country’s macroeconomic
performance over this period was the result of pre-crisis policy decisions or just good luck.
The answer is a bit of both.

Taxation of financial intermediation receives surprisingly little ana-
lytical attention, despite its practical importance both for national
budgets and for the efficient functioning of the financial system.
This volume is an attempt to provide a coherent overview of the
policy issues involved.
Thai mutual funds industry has grown drastically with compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of
16.97% during 2006 to 2010. Fixed income funds play an important role determining industry growth
as proportion of asset under management of fixed income funds to total asset under management was
approximately 72% in 2010. Among fixed income fund product, deposit substitute product or MMF
takes the largest proportion of total asset under management of fixed income funds. Equity mutual fund
growth was driven by large flow of investment from LTF and RMF due to tax incentive.
The model describes the behaviour of consumers, which are heterogeneous in terms
of age, income and ¯nancial assets. They maximize the utility from consumption sub-
ject to the life-cycle budget constraint. Their savings are remunerated at the deposit
interest rate and the cost of borrowing is given by the lending rate. When young, con-
sumers work and receive wages that depend on an idiosyncratic, stochastic component
and a deterministic life-cycle pro¯le of productivity. When old, they are on a manda-
tory retirement and receive pensions.
Adverse Credit History. To be eligible for a Federal PLUS loan,
the borrower may not have an adverse credit history, which is
defined as having a bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession, tax
lien, wage garnishment or default determination in the last five
years or a current delinquency of 90 or more days.

In fact, his thesis is that a government monopoly on money production and management has no ethical or economic grounding at all. Legal tender laws, bailout guarantees, tax-backed deposit insurance, and the entire apparatus that sustains national monetary systems, has been wholly unjustified. Money, he argues, should be a privately produced good like any other, such as clothing or food.
Include a category for savings and investing. What are you
paying yourself every month? Many people get into the habit
of saving and investing by following this advice: always pay
yourself or your family first. Many people find it easier to pay
themselves first if they allow their bank to automatically re-
move money from their paycheck and deposit it into a savings
or investment account.
Likely even better, for tax purposes, is to participate in an
employer-sponsored retirement plan such as a 401(k), 403(b),
