Most of the people I meet in my work perceive themselves as not capable of
much. Some don’t even particularly like themselves. I know how they feel. As a
young man I felt the same, and it nearly destroyed me before I acquired the
confidence to become a teacher, therapist and organiser of personal development
and complementary therapy courses.
The fact is that we still clearly have a need for good managers
—people who are able to effectively plan, organize, direct and control.
We also have a great need for leaders inside organizations—
people who inspire, motivate, and develop others. And we need
leaders at all levels in our organization, not just at the top. The old adage that we manage things and lead people applies here, albeit with a slight revision—the need is to successfully manage projects and activities while simultaneously leading people effectively......

PHP is an open source, server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language used to create dynamically generated Web pages. With an easy-to-use syntax and a large, extensible library of modules, PHP brings together the best of Perl, C++, and other languages. The PHP Developer’s Dictionary is a comprehensive reference to PHP 4. It details the evolution of the PHP language and the enhancements that PHP 4 brings to the programmer, and it shows the reader how to install the application, generate HTML, and access databases....
The aim of this book, which is set out more fully in the Synopsis, is
to develop the outlines of a coherent, systematic vision of an inter-
national legal order that takes the protection of human rights seri-
ously, while anchoring that vision in moral reasoning that is
informed both by a due appreciation of the limitations of existing
institutions and a willingness to consider possibilities for institu-
A science of positive subjective experience, positive individual
traits, and positive institutions promises to improve
quali~.' of life and prevent the pathologies that arise when
life is barren and meaningless. The exclusive focus on
pathology that has dominated so much of our discipline
results in a model of the human being lacking the positive
features that make life worth living. Hope, wisdom, creativity,
future mindedness, courage, spirituality, responsibility,
and perseverance are ignored or explained as transformations
of more authentic negative impulses.
This paper presents a method to develop a class of variable memory Markov models that have higher memory capacity than traditional (uniform memory) Markov models. The structure of the variable memory models is induced from a manually annotated corpus through a decision tree learning algorithm. A series of comparative experiments show the resulting models outperform uniform memory Markov models in a part-of-speech tagging task.
KPMG LLP and the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) joined forces in developing
this white paper to examine the forces of change, the current and emerging technologies,
the path to bring these innovations to market, the likelihood that they will achieve wide
adoption from consumers, and their potential impact on the automotive ecosystem.
Our research included interviews with more than 25 thought leaders, automotive and high-
tech executives, and government officials as well as analysis of industry trends.
More specifically, we must further examine
health beliefs, and food beliefs and
practices that have symbolic or traditional
importance to determine how knowledge,
beliefs and attitudes translate into eating
behaviour in older adults, especially at
advanced ages. More research is needed to
clarify the relative contribution of income,
ethnic background and other personal predictors
of healthy eating – self-control,
emotions, resistance to change, time constraints,
lack of knowledge – and environmental
factors governing food availability
Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) gives you the best of Test Driven Development, Domain Driven Design, and Acceptance Test Driven Planning techniques, so you can create better software with self-documenting, executable tests that bring users and developers together with a common language.
We describe a distributed, modular architecture for platform independent natural language systems. It features automatic interface generation and self-organization. Adaptive (and nonadaptive) voting mechanisms are used for integrating discrete modules. The architecture is suitable for rapid prototyping and product delivery.
This p a p e r discusses an approach to incremental learning in natural language processing. The t e c h n i q u e of projecting and integrating semantic c o n s t r a i n t s to learn word definitions is analyzed as Implemented in the POLITICS system. E x t e n s i o n s and improvements of this technique are developed. The problem of generalizing existing word meanings and understanding metaphorical uses of words Is addressed In terms of semantic constraint Integration.
