  • The NCRP has long mcog&ed the need for a clear assessment of the magnitude of doses from various souroes of radiation to which the population of the U.S. is ocpo9ed. In anticipation of the need to gather data for input into this process five as&sament committees, each adhing a different source category, wem established, first in 1971 and then reestablished in 1986. NCRP reports assessing exposum from natural background, consumer products, and nuclear power gene ation have recently been published (NCRP, 1987% 1987b. 1987~)...

  • The biologic phenotype underlying chronic periodontitis, including the biofilm and the host response, tend to vary among individuals despite a similar clinical diagnostic category (Offenbacher et al. 2007). Consequently, disease screening should ideally be based on clinical determinations and the biologic phenotype (Page and Kornman 1997). Other associated factors include environmental exposures, as well as differences in genetic and possibly epigenetic composition (Page and Kornman 1997).

In India in both categories of full and partial dependency, more than 80 percent of the women fall. In the national level more than 70 percent of the elderly are fully dependent in both female categories in both rural and urban areas (72.07 and 72.12) while it is just over 30 in the case of men (32.7 and 30.11). Kerala is the toper in the Rural male section with more than 43% are...

  • This major drawback led to the development of a more consistent approach that modelled inefficiency effects as an explicit function of certain factors specific to the firm, and all the parameters are estimated in one step using maximum likelihood procedure. Authors in this category include Kumbhakar, Ghosh and McGuckin (1991), Reifschneider and Stevenson (1999), Huang and Liu (1994), and Battese and Coelli (1995), who proposed a stochastic frontier production fuction for panel data.

  • Investing in higher-risk, illiquid, targeted investments are part of an active portfolio and are more time-intensive than a passively managed portfolio. As such, pension funds that have adopted formal policies limit their total investments in this category to two percent of total assets in line with their broader strategic asset allocation policy. Pension funds seek portfolio diversification through a strategic asset allocation policy in which the fund or its consultants set a target percentage to each asset class—traditional and alternative investments.

  • The NCRP has long recognized the need for a clear assessment of the magnitude of doses from various sources of radiation to which the population of the U.S. is exposed. In anticipation of the need to gather data for input into this process, five assessment committees, each addressing a different source category, were established. NCRP reports assessing exposures from natural background, consumer products, nuclear power generation, and diagnostic medical radiation have been published (NCRP, 1987a,b,c,d, NCRP, 1989)....

  • Sensors in production systems such as machine tools or robots may be classified into four categories (Figure 2-1). They are activated either during operation or in the set-up phase. Three types of sensors may be applied during the operation: those which measure kinematic values such as position, velocity, orientation or angular velocity, sensors which are applied to control the process in adaptive control systems, and sensors which are used to monitor the production systems and to provide diagnostic functions to assure a high availability of the systems....

  • Major Influences on Clinical Decision-Making More than a decade of research on variations in clinician practice patterns has shed much light on forces that shape clinical decisions. The use of heuristic "shortcuts," as detailed above, provides a partial explanation, but several other key factors play an important role in shaping diagnostic hypotheses and management decisions.

  • Human categorization is neither a binary nor a context-free process. Rather, some concepts are better examples of a category than others, while the criteria for category membership may be satisfied to different degrees by different concepts in different contexts. In light of these empirical facts, WordNet’s static category structure appears both excessively rigid and unduly fragile for processing real texts. In this paper we describe a syntagmatic, corpus-based approach to redefining WordNet’s categories in a functional, gradable and context-sensitive fashion.
