In the past, environmental goods and services were seen as having limited economic importance.
Now, environmental issues and activities pervade every aspect of our economic life and performance
and are subject to challenging national and international targets, strict monitoring regimes and
ongoing discussion and debate in the media. As understanding of environmental challenges has
grown, so too has appreciation of the size of the market and the associated business opportunities.
You may be asked to choose between a “tax-qualified” long-term care
insurance policy and one that is “non-tax-qualified.” There are important
differences between the two types of policies. These differences were
created by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
A federally tax-qualified long-term care insurance policy, or a qualified
policy, offers certain federal income tax advantages. If you have a qualified
long-term care policy and you itemize your deductions, you may be able to
deduct part or all of the premium you pay for the policy.
With nearly one billion online videos viewed everyday,
an emerging new frontier in computer vision research is
recognition and search in video. While much effort has
been devoted to the collection and annotation of large scal-
able static image datasets containing thousands of image
categories, human action datasets lag far behind. Cur-
rent action recognition databases contain on the order of
ten different action categories collected under fairly con-
These are two dramatically different exercises. In recent decades much work in the
public health field has focused on the first, on identifying the primary causes of poor health,
including their prevalence and distribution, and on developing an evidence-based understanding
of the interventions that will work to addresses those causes. There is broad consensus on the
methodology for evaluating evidence of the efficacy of interventions.
About one million children develop tuberculosis (TB) annually
worldwide, accounting for about 11% of all TB
cases. Children with TB differ from adults in their immunological
and pathophysiological response in ways that
may have important implications for the prevention, diagnosis
and treatment of TB in children. There is an urgent
need to improve the diagnosis and management of children
with TB, and the prevention of TB in children, by
ensuring their inclusion under the implementation of the
Stop TB strategy by National TB Programmes.
Against this previously explained background of European developments and full adoption
in Spain, different initiatives were started in several university and professional sectors of
the country to study the existing situation, aiming at building knowledge that will permit
undertaking the reform in the best possible way. Some of these initiatives refer specifi cally
to ‘Business Administration’ studies. We refer to them in this section. In the next section we
will review the specifi c actions already underway in Spanish Universities. ...
A compilation of the most important aerosol chemical processes involved in known scientific and technological disciplines, Aerosol Chemical Processes in the Environment serves as a handbook for aerosol chemistry. Aerosol science is interdisciplinary, interfacing with many environmental, biological and technological research fields. Aerosols and aerosol research play an important role in both basic and applied scientific and technological fields. Interdisciplinary cooperation is useful and necessary.
Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are the main pollinating agents for numerous
plants and fruit trees and, hence, play a key role in agriculture and
more generally in the maintenance of ecological biodiversity. Although
these social insects are not the targets of all the different agrochemical
treatments used in crop protection, they are widely affected by pesticides.
In some cases, the larger cells may be further distinguished based on their scattering
characteristics (coccolithophorids) or the presence of both PE and chlorophyll (cryptophytes)
(Olson et al., 1989; Collier & Campell, 1999).
Many authors have reported the distributions and dynamics of each photosynthetic group
in the water column in different marine environments (Li, 1995; Campbell & Vaulot, 1993;
Vaulot & Marie, 1999).
This book is about the distribution and abundance of different
types of organism, and about the physical, chemical but especially
the biological features and interactions that determine these
distributions and abundances.
Unlike some other sciences, the subject matter of ecology is
apparent to everybody: most people have observed and pondered
nature, and in this sense most people are ecologists of sorts. But
ecology is not an easy science.
The European Commission is expected to finalise the bulk
of the AIFMD level 2 implementing measures in the second
trimester of 2012. Then the onus will be on the Luxembourg
lawmakers to push ahead in the remaining months of 2012
to draft the new legal texts required to transpose the EU
framework into local law. The ultimate deadline to transpose
the AIFMD is July 2013.
This paper gives insights into the BA segment with a special focus on Germany. First we introduce
the concept of BA financing. In a second step we analyse the BA market in Germany. We
conclude that there is a significant excess demand for early stage financing. In the third part of this
paper we explain, how the EIF aims to address this by providing a flexible and timely support to
the BAs market through establishing an intermediation infrastructure to efficiently leverage this
Temporary Planktonic Existence
3.1 RELEASE OF PROPAGULES INTO PLANKTON
The sources of colonization of living and non-living (inert) surfaces in the marine environment are communities inhabiting hard substrates of natural and artificial origin, and also soft grounds (see Chapter 1). They release dispersal forms, usually called propagules, into water: microorganisms, animal larvae, and macroalgal spores, which are potential colonists (foulers). The contribution of different hard-substrate communities to the colonization (biofouling) process is not the same.
To date, most mutual fund performance evaluations have been fairly simplistic: how has a fund
performed relative to “the market”? The Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index is usually used as a proxy for
the market, despite the fact that it accounts for only about 70% of the capitalization of the U.S. stock market
and is dominated by corporations with gigantic market capitalizations. (Its largest 25 stocks account, on
average, for 1% of the entire market; the 6500 “non-500” stocks in the market have an average weight of
4/1000 of 1%.) But today, many funds resemble...
The number of alerts the Threat Analyzer can display has a direct correlation to your
system's memory. Since you can access the Central Manager from the local host or a
remote connection, this depends on the machine used for the Central Manager logon. The
memory overhead for alerts, including the code base and Java virtual machine, is
approximately 1 KB per alert when there are at least 10,000 alerts in the Threat Analyzer
(more KBs when there are fewer alerts). McAfee recommends 1 GB of RAM in your
system which enables you to handle up to 1,000,000 total alerts. If...
However, such a strategy is inappropriate for the United States in current
circumstances. Inflation expectations appear reasonably well-anchored, and both
inflation expectations and actual inflation remain within a range consistent with price
stability. In this context, raising the inflation objective would likely entail much greater
costs than benefits. Inflation would be higher and probably more volatile under such a
policy, undermining confidence and the ability of firms and households to make longer-
term plans, while squandering the Fed’s hard-won inflation credibility.
Exchanges have suggested several complementary rationales for
establishing themselves as a source of corporate governance-related regulations.
In essence, by raising transparency and discouraging illegal or irregular
practices, exchanges are themselves able to accumulate an amount of
The outputs of an ARIES session have numerous practical uses for conservation and economic development planning. Notably, they can show which regions are critical to maintaining the supply and flows of particular benefits for specific beneficiary groups. By prioritizing conservation and restoration activities around sources and sinks for particular services, benefit flows may be maintained or increased. Similarly, focusing development or extractive resource use outside these regions can prevent degradation of benefit flows.
As part of the world’s commitment towards the right to development, peace and security, gender
equality, eradication of multi-dimensional poverty and sustainable human development, the GoN
endorsed the Millennium Declaration in September 2000. In order to achieve the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), the GoN has incorporated the MDGs into the strategic framework of the
country’s Tenth Plan/Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (2002/03-2006/07).
Enhanced Business Reporting is comprised of voluntary, globally
recognized guidelines for providing richer disclosure of business
information, allowing companies to better communicate current and
expected performance while giving the investment community and
other stakeholders the information they need to make better decisions.
This includes financial statements, key performance indicators based
on industry-specific definitions, and company-specific information
about strategy, plans, opportunities and risks....
