  • For many classically chaotic systems it is believed that the quantum wave functions become uniformly distributed, that is the matrix elements of smooth observables tend to the phase space average of the observable. In this paper we study the fluctuations of the matrix elements for the desymmetrized quantum cat map. We present a conjecture for the distribution of the normalized matrix elements, namely that their distribution is that of a certain weighted sum of traces of independent matrices in SU(2).

  • Compact substation" is a general name for, in fact, outdoor operated substation. Our range includes different access, equipment arrangement, depending on client requirement (space availability, operation habits). Everywhere, where access and transportation facilities are a key factor, we offer a technique based on a light concrete technology micro-concrete & GRC. (Glass Reinforced Cement). With higher mechanical resistance than concrete, GRC is widely used in construction throughout the world, when weight is an important factor.

  • Domain adaptation is an important problem in natural language processing (NLP) due to the lack of labeled data in novel domains. In this paper, we study the domain adaptation problem from the instance weighting perspective. We formally analyze and characterize the domain adaptation problem from a distributional view, and show that there are two distinct needs for adaptation, corresponding to the different distributions of instances and classification functions in the source and the target domains. ...

  • With a few exceptions, discriminative training in statistical machine translation (SMT) has been content with tuning weights for large feature sets on small development data. Evidence from machine learning indicates that increasing the training sample size results in better prediction. The goal of this paper is to show that this common wisdom can also be brought to bear upon SMT.

  • Some southern producers also feel that premiums for buy-up coverage or revenue products are not affordable, leaving catastrophic policies (with minimal coverage) as the only viable option for many farmers. More broadly, some farm groups have requested that current subsidies be maintained or increased so premiums would be more affordable. 28 Corn producers want their premiums reduced because the loss ratio has been well below 1.0 (indemnities paid divided by premiums).

  • Many distributed storage systems achieve high data access through- put via partitioning and replication, each system with its own ad- vantages and tradeoffs. In order to achieve high scalability, how- ever, today’s systems generally reduce transactional support, disal- lowing single transactions fromspanning multiple partitions. Calvin is a practical transaction scheduling and data replication layer that uses a deterministic ordering guarantee to significantly reduce the normally prohibitive contention costs associated with distributed transactions.

  • Mover’s Distance (EMD) to explicitly align the volumes. In contrast to the fixed volume-to-volume matching used in [25], the space-time volumes of two videos across different space-time locations can be matched using our ASTPM method, making it better at coping with the large intraclass variations within the same type of events (e.g., moving objects in consumer videos can appear at different space- time locations, and the background within two different videos, even captured from the same scene, may be shifted due to considerable camera motion).

  • Cushing’s disease is rare in children and adolescents. We report the clinical presenta- tions of three children with Cushing’s disease. All three exhibited the typical symptoms and signs of weight gain and growth retardation. Two also demonstrated personality changes, hypertension and hypokalemia, the last of these being rarely reported in patients with Cushing’s disease. Lack of diurnal changes in serum cortisol levels was the most common biochemical finding.

  • During the past fifteen years, there has been a growing recognition among health care professionals that domestic violence (DV), also known as intimate partner violence (IPV) is a highly prevalent public health problem with devastating effects on individuals, families and communities. Most Americans are seen at some point by a health care provider, and the health care setting offers a critical opportunity for early identification and even the primary prevention of abuse.

  • Emerging evidence shows an association between periodontal infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as premature delivery and low birth weight. While some studies have shown that interventions to treat periodontal disease will improve pregnancy outcomes, conclusive clinical interventional trials are not yet available to confirm the preliminary results. Nevertheless, control of oral diseases improves a woman’s quality of life and has the potential to reduce the transmission of oral bacteria from mothers to children....

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidant that can be injected into a contaminated zone to destroy petroleum contaminants. When injected to groundwater, hydrogen peroxide is unstable, and reacts with organic contaminants and subsurface materials. It decomposes to oxygen and water within hours of its introduction into groundwater generating heat in the process. Peroxide is typically shipped to a remediation site in liquid form at dose concentrations ranging from five percent to 50 percent by weight.

  • Harrison's Internal Medicine Chapter 46. Fluid and Electrolyte Disturbances Sodium and Water Sodium and Water: Introduction Composition of Body Fluids Water is the most abundant constituent in the body, comprising approximately 50% of body weight in women and 60% in men. This difference is attributable to differences in the relative proportions of adipose tissue in men and women. Total body water is distributed in two major compartments: 55–75% is intracellular [intracellular fluid (ICF)], and 25–45% is extracellular [extracellular fluid (ECF)].

  • FOUR ESSAYS ON THE ECONOMICS OF EDUCATION Note that Theorem 2 does not rule out equilibria in which some families live in lower-μ than do some higher-income families. I refer to these as unsorted (or imperfectly sorted) equilibria. They arise when the peer group advantage of high-income communities over low-income communities is large enough to overcome deficits in school effectiveness.28 For fixed income and effectiveness distributions, unsorted equilibria become harder to maintain as the weight that families place on peer group relative to school quality falls:...
