  • This book contains 35 chapters written by experts in developing techniques for making aerial vehicles more intelligent, more reliable, more flexible in use, and safer in operation. It will also serve as an inspiration for further improvement of the design and application of aeral vehicles. The advanced techniques and research described here may also be applicable to other high-tech areas such as robotics, avionics, vetronics, and space.

  • The book reveals many different aspects of motion control and a wide multiplicity of approaches to the problem as well. Despite the number of examples, however, this volume is not meant to be exhaustive: it intends to offer some original insights for all researchers who will hopefully make their experience available for a forthcoming publication on the subject.

  • The chapters in this book reflect leading edge ideas, reflections and observations. Even though the modern era of sleep research evolved from Aserinksky’s observations of rapid eye movements in the sleep of babies, most work is nonetheless done in adults. There is much less formal work done in youngsters and virtually none in utero and pregnancy itself is virtually unexplored. So, Dr Miller et al’s chapter reviewing sleep in pregnancy is particularly welcome as it incorporates current thinking in how disordered sleep impacts other adult pathological processes.

  • Global warming and changes in climate have already had observed impacts on natural ecosystems and species. Natural systems such as wetlands, mangroves, coral reefs, cloud forests, Arctic and high latitude ecosystems are especially vulnerable to climate‐induced disturbances. Enhanced protection and management of biological resources and habitats can mitigate impacts and contribute to solutions as nations and communities strive to adapt to climate change. Biodiversity is the foundation and mainstay of agriculture, forests, and fisheries.

  • CHAPTER 61 Random Coefficients. The random coefficient model first developed in [HH68] cannot be written in the form y = Xβ + ε because each observation has a different β. Therefore we have to write it observation by observation: y t = xt β t (no separate disturbance term),

  • CHAPTER 65 Disturbance Related (Seemingly Unrelated) Regressions. One has m timeseries regression equations y i = X i β i + εi . Everything is different: the dependent variables, the explanatory variables, the coefficient vectors. Even the numbers of the observations may be different,

  • Using chemical ionization mass spectrometry and photo- acoustic spectroscopy, we analysed the evolution of vola- tile organic compounds (VOCs) and other trace gases dur- ing an approximately one-week measurement period each in a pigsty and a sheep shed at the Federal Agricultural Research Centre (FAL) in Mariensee, Germany. When ac- tivities in the sheep shed were most intense during feeding hours and manure removal, concentration surges of VOCs were observed, which strongly correlated with methane and ammonia levels.

  • Folate plays a critical role in maintaining normal metabolic, energy, differ-entiation and growth status of all mammalian cells. The intestinal folate uptake is tightly and diversely regulated, and disturbances in folate homeo-stasis are observed in alcoholism, attributable, in part, to intestinal mal-absorption of folate.
