Sitting at the intersection between statistics and machine learning, Dynamic Bayesian Networks have been applied with much success in many domains, such as speech recognition, vision, and computational biology. While Natural Language Processing increasingly relies on statistical methods, we think they have yet to use Graphical Models to their full potential. In this paper, we report on experiments in learning edit distance costs using Dynamic Bayesian Networks and present results on a pronunciation classification task. ...
We present a new approach to disambiguating syntactically ambiguous words in context, based on Variable Memory Markov (VMM) models. In contrast to fixed-length Markov models, which predict based on fixed-length histories, variable memory Markov models dynamically adapt their history length based on the training data, and hence may use fewer parameters. In a test of a VMM based tagger on the Brown corpus, 95.81% of tokens are correctly classified.
This overview of Fortran 90 (F90) features is presented as a series of tables that illustrate the syntax
and abilities of F90. Frequently comparisons are made to similar features in the C++ and F77 languages
and to the Matlab environment.
Industrial robots are currently employed in a large number of applications and are available
with a wide range of configurations, drive systems, physical sizes and payloads. However,
the numbers in service throughout the world are much less than predicted over twenty
years ago (Engelberger 1980). This is despite major technological advances in related areas
of computing and electronics, and the availability of fast, reliable and low-cost
microprocessors and memory. This situation is mainly a result of historical and economic
circumstances, rather than technical considerations.
This book is a collection of some of the invited talks presented at the international
meeting held at the Max Planck Institut fiir Physik komplexer Systeme, Dresden,
Germany during August 6-30, 2001, on the rapidly developing field of nanoscale
science and bio-electronics (http://www.mpipks-dresden.mpg.de/~nanobio/).
Semiconductor physics has experienced unprecedented developments over the second
half of the twentieth century. The exponential growth in microelectronic processing
power and the size of dynamic memories has been achieved by significant downscahng
of the minimum feature size.
The concept of data or information processing arises in a variety of fields. Understanding the principles
behind this concept is fundamental to computer design, communications, manufacturing process control,
biomedical engineering, and an increasingly large number of other areas of technology and science. It is
impossible to imagine modern life without computers for generating, analyzing, and retrieving large
amounts of information, as well as communicating information to end users regardless of their location....
The RNNs (Recurrent Neural Networks) are a general case of artificial neural networks where the connections are not feed-forward ones only. In RNNs, connections between units form directed cycles, providing an implicit internal memory. Those RNNs are adapted to problems dealing with signals evolving through time. Their internal memory gives them the ability to naturally take time into account. Valuable approximation results have been obtained for dynamical systems.

The aim of this book is to provide a rapid introduction to the C
programming language. C is a procedural language and should not
be confused with C+ + , which requires a significantly different way
of thinking about problems and their solutions. With the explosion
of texts on C++ and other object-oriented languages in recent
years, along with the perception that C + + is somehow a
progression beyond C, it may seem a little strange to consider a
programming book that is not object oriented.
The papers collected in this book have been selected from those presented at a
conference in memory of Joan Robinson, held in the tenth year after her death (5
August 1983). The conference took place in Turin in December 1993 and was
jointly organized by Societı Italiana degli Economisti (SIE), Fondazione
Einaudi, and a Research Group on `Distribuzione del reddito, progresso tecnico e
sviluppo economico' of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR).
People who administer the operation of an Oracle database system, known as database
administrators (DBAs), are responsible for creating Oracle databases, ensuring their
smooth operation, and monitoring their use. In addition to the many alerts and
advisors Oracle provides, Oracle also offers the following features:
Oracle Database provides a high degree of self-management - automating routine DBA
tasks and reducing complexity of space, memory, and resource administration.
Proxy class Hide implementation details of another class
Knows only public interface of class being hidden
Enables clients to use class’s services without giving access to class’s implementation. Used when class definition only uses pointer to another class Prevents need for including header file
After completing this unit, you should be able to: To form linked data structures using references, self-referential classes and recursion, the type-wrapper classes that enable programs to process primitive data values as objects, to use autoboxing to convert a primitive value to an object of the corresponding type-wrapper class, to use auto-unboxing to convert an object of a type-wrapper class to a primitive value.
Chapter 11 - Memory management. This chapter discusses the implementation of dynamic arrays and other objects using conventional techniques for managing heap memory. Especially important in this context is the notion of heap overflow, along with strategies for dealing with heap overflow when it occurs at run time. We discuss three key algorithms for heap memory management, which are affectionately known as garbage collection algorithms.
