A humanist educational model can be defined as a system in which human
values, dignity, reason and fulfilment in harmony with nature predominates. By

our children, young people and students.
I assume that the function of higher education is to reify ruling class values
into the social consciousness of students, and to train students to serve the
This study focuses on how teachers are being prepared through the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at three different universities. Documentary and oral sources, a small survey, focus groups and interviews, provide the basis for an analysis of the context and history of each institution: the profile of staff and students in teacher-education courses; and the ways in which issues of diversity are addressed. A well-grounded set of recommendations provides direction for the road ahead.

Society’s technological, economic, and cultural changes of the last 50 years
have made many important mathematical ideas more relevant and accessible
in work and in everyday life. As examples of mathematics proliferate, the

This paper describes a set of workshops in which mobile robots were constructed in order to introduce students by hands-on experiments to mechatronic systems and control system design. Psychological rather than informational differences may explain much of the
variation in financial capability reported in the FSA (2006) Baseline Survey. This

age and the level of general education. This is consistent with the importance of
