Since the World Wide Web became widely available in the
mid 1990s, Web-based applications have developed rapidly.
The Web has come to be used by a range of people for many
different purposes, including online banking, e-commerce,
distance education, social networking, data sharing, collaborating
on team projects, and healthcare-related activities.
Effective user interactions are required for a Web site
to accomplish its specific goals, which is necessary for an

This second edition of Internet Resources for Nurses is expanded
in scope and depth; it includes more content headings and additional
features. Since the publication of the first edition in 2000,
there has been a substantial increase in the information available to
nurses through the Internet. We can expect that this trend will continue
and that the number, depth, and scope of health care Web sites will
increase dramatically as health care organizations more fully embrace
the information resources available.
Institutional changes unrelated to PPHE. The medical center encountered a number of unexpected
changes in personnel, including changes in faculty members participating in the project. These changes
required reassignment of some responsibilities.
Scheduling. After adjusting to organizational and curricular changes, the team’s primary challenge was

and posted them on the residents’ secured web site.
Preparing Students for the Computer-Based Test has been created for ESL/EFL instructors
and educational advisors so they can help students prepare for the computer-based TOEFL® test. It has been
prepared by Educational Testing Service (ETS), which develops and scores the TOEFL test. TOEFL Tips
can help students do their best on the test. However, it is not meant to replace the TOEFL Information
Bulletin for Computer-Based Testing, which contains information students need to make appointments
for and become familiar with the test.

The mission of this book is to help web developers create web sites that rank well with the major search engines, and to teach search engine marketers how to use technology to their advantage. We assert that neither marketing nor IT can exist in a vacuum, and it is essential that they not see themselves as opposing forces in an organization. They must work together. This book aims to educate both sides in that regard.
An effort as far-reaching as that taken on by the Web-based Education Commission could not have
been possible without the invaluable assistance of many talented individuals. Ericka Miller, legislative
assistant to Sen. Bob Kerrey and Glee Smith, legislative director to Rep. Johnny Isakson, provided
continuous advice, support, and thoughtful review throughout our work. Claudia Pharis-
Weiss, chief of staff to Rep. Chaka Fattah; Carmel Martin, senior policy advisor to Sen. Jeff
Bingaman; and Raissa Geary, legislative assistant to Sen. Michael B. Enzi, also made significant contributions.

Efforts to support social networks via computer-mediated communication were made in many
early online services, including Usenet, ARPANET, LISTSERV, and bulletin board services (BBS). Many

Even when schools are free, poor children
may be forced to leave in order to work.
Children may need to provide extra house-
hold income or care for younger siblings
so that both parents can work outside
the home. Conditional cash transfers
have been used as effective incentives
for parents to enrol their children in school
in Latin America. Families receive money
on the condition that their children attend
school and go to health-care appointments

A social network service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social
networks or social relations among people, e.g., who share interests and/or activities. A social network service
essentially consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional
services. Most social network services are web based and provide means for users to interact over the internet, such
as e-mail and instant messaging.
These days, as Internet dangers and risks increase exponentially, administrators of corporate
networks are obliged to pay special attention to user workstation protection. Corporate servers
can be very well protected, yet their client workstations may have backdoors for outside
intrusions, which can be used to steal internal data or introduce confusion.
To reduce the amount of network traffic and to control Internet usage by staff, administrators are
filtering web site content and blocking net advertisements.
As the proportion of both minority populations and people aged 60 and older increases in the United States, and the
obesity epidemic continues, people with diabetes are becoming a larger part of the practices of family physicians and
other primary care clinicians. Health care professionals involved in new or expanding diabetes care practices can use
these guiding principles to ensure that they provide essential components of comprehensive diabetes care.
