  • This paper describes methods for relating (threading) multiple newspaper articles, and for visualizing various characteristics of them by using a directed graph. A set of articles is represented by a set of word vectors, and the similarity between the vectors is then calculated. The graph is constructed from the similarity matrix. By applying some constraints on the chronological ordering of articles, an efficient threading algorithm that runs in O(n) time (where n is the number of articles) is obtained. ...

  • We describe an efficient bottom-up parser that interleaves syntactic and semantic structure building. Two techniques are presented for reducing search by reducing local ambiguity: Limited leftcontext constraints are used to reduce local syntactic ambiguity, and deferred sortal-constraint application is used to reduce local semantic ambiguity. We experimentally evaluate these techniques, and show dramatic reductions in both number of chart edges and total parsing time.

  • This paper proposes a new approach for ranking efficiency units in data envelopment analysis as a modification of the super-efficiency models developed by Tone. The new approach based on slacks-based measure of efficiency (SBM) for dealing with objective function used to classify all of the decision-making units allows the ranking of all inefficient DMUs and overcomes the disadvantages of infeasibility.

  • Vision plays a fundamental role for living beings by allowing them to interact with the environment in an effective and efficient way. The ultimate goal of Machine Vision is to endow artificial systems with adequate capabilities to cope with not a priori predetermined situations. To this end, we have to take into account the computing constraints of the hosting architectures and the specifications of the tasks to be accomplished, to continuously adapt and optimize the visual processing techniques. Nevertheless, by exploiting the low?cost computational power of off?the?...

  • Attempts to use lasers in medicine are so numerous and, historically, so diverse, that it proves difficult to describe them all in this chapter. Many laser ideas were introduced experimentally, evaluated clinically and later abandoned, giving way to other concepts in accordance with the availability of laser sources or delivery technologies. This process continues today. The present collection of laser applications thus describes the laser innovations at a given point in time only.

  • This paper describes new and improved techniques which help a unification-based parser to process input efficiently and robustly. In combination these methods result in a speed-up in parsing time of more than an order of magnitude. The methods are correct in the sense that none of them rule out legal rule applications. and Sch~ifer, 1994; Krieger and Sch~ifer, 1995) and an advanced agenda-based bottom-up chart parser (Kiefer and Scherf, 1996).

  • If you define efficiency as the ruler for the success of a language, Ruby should be one of the very first languages to come to mind. The introduction of Ruby to the programming world has astounded developers with its ability to simply make programming fun again. Ruby frees programmers to concentrate on the problem at hand, creating fewer obstacles than other languages. In Ruby, ideas flow directly into the code.

Power flow analysis for certain type of power system network can be carried on by using several software that already been develop without manual calculation on this time. One of the software is MATLAB with its toolbox: Power System Analysis Toolbox. This software also uses numerical methods to do power flow analysis like Newton-Raphson and its modified form, Fast Decoupled Method.

  • In spite of some early success with agile methodologies, a number of factors are preventing their widespread adoption. Agile methodology advocates often find it difficult to obtain management support for implementing what seem like dramatic changes in application development. These methodologies require developers, managers and users alike to change the way they work and think. For example, the XP practices of pair programming, test-first design, continuous integration, and an on-site customer can seem like daunting changes to implement.
